Chapter 101: Genetic Repair (4)

The light washed over King Gray’s body as the system went ahead to cleanse the remnant energy before going ahead to repair the damaged DNA.

The process was fast and efficient, not requiring any immediate expression of proteins. Following the repair of the damaged genome, the system cleansed the foreign energy signature and then hid a bit of purifying energy in the king’s body.

Soon, the warm light began dying down, signifying the completion of the process. The continuously changing frown on the king’s face instantly disappeared, expressing the relief that washed over him.

"I’m done." Caleb said, straightening his back.

"Just like that?" Celistra asked with raised brows.

"Just like that..." He chuckled. "What I showed you looked complex and long, but the process itself was extremely fast. Look at his expression..." Caleb gestured at the king’s peaceful face.

Anastasia knew he was right, but with the king still unconscious, it was hard to believe. Moreover, she was frozen in place, afraid to move and ruin something like she almost did.

"Healing will speed up the recovery of his mana channels, and more rest will do the rest." Saying that, he turned towards the princess. "It’s her turn now..."

Celine tightened her hold on her brother’s hand while her heartbeat increased in tempo. As Caleb moved to the other side, Celistra moved towards the king.

She looked at his expression and then looked at Caleb, still in disbelief. Everything felt so easy, almost like it was nothing. But that was just an illusion.

If it were that easy, everyone would be doing it.

Looking at the king once more, the priestess cast her diagnostic spell and like Caleb said, the king’s body began healing itself. Though slow, it proved Caleb’s words.

’Amazing...’ Celistra swallowed hard. ’To think all that damage was because a few letters were removed from their place...’

"Hello, there..." Celistra heard Caleb call out to the princess, catching her attention. "My name is Caleb and I will be restoring your vision and every ailment making your life difficult, is that okay?"

"Y-yes..." Celine nodded with a gulp.

For whatever reason, she found the mysterious man’s presence calming and reassuring. Still, her anxiety created a tight knot at the bit of her stomach.

"Good," Caleb smiled and added. "Try to relax. The process will be slightly painful as there will be a few things to be removed and regenerated."

"Painful?" Osbourne questioned, fear in his eyes. "You didn’t mention this earlier."

"Relax, Your Highness. It will be fine." Caleb assured. "Because the mutated genes in her resulted in the transcription and translation of false proteins and enzymes, I’ll have to clear those products out and then speed up the production of new ones."

"Ah, I see..." The prince nodded. "But you also mentioned needing the template of all three of us. How are –"

"I’ve already gotten the templates." The reply came fast, cutting the prince short. "May I?"

Osbourne nodded and allowed Caleb to do his thing. At the foot of the bed, Anastasia held her hands together in a silent prayer to the Goddess.

At this point, her heart was thumping and threatening to jump out of her chest. As a mother, she had blamed herself countless times for failing to give her daughter the gift of sight and the joys that accompanied said gift.

Now that it was happening, the queen didn’t know how to respond. Her eyes welled up with tears, and she felt weak in the knees. Fortunately, Daphne noticed her distress and quickly came to support her.

"Thank you," She mouthed a soft word of gratitude.

The knight commander gave a curt nod as both women focused on the scene about to occur. Just like he did for the king, Caleb’s hand fell on the princess’s forehead and over her eyes. Then a warm and serene light began to wash over Celine’s body.

With a thought, Caleb began the process. The system’s light seeped into Celine’s body, swiftly changing the mutations with the correct sequence. It began with her blood group, then moved on to her weak and fragile body and finally to her eyes.

The process was extremely fast – done in the blink of an eye. Following that, the system simultaneously began clearing the mutated structural proteins, enzymes and other relevant proteins and activated the transcription and translation processes.

"Ah..."

Celine let out a soft cry of pain, making the hearts of her loved ones skip a beat in fear. They hated seeing Celine in any form of suffering.

Unfortunately for them, this was just the beginning.

"Ah...!"

Another cry escaped her lips. Osbourne turned to look at Caleb anxiously, but Caleb was focused on his action.

"Just a little longer, princess." Caleb said in an attempt to calm the girl. "This will be over soon."

But the cry continued to increase and her body began shuddering, sending invisible arrows into the hearts of the queen and the prince. Osbourne held her hand tightly, whispering reassuring words to her while Anastasia silently shed tears.

"How much longer...?"

Anastasia managed to say amid tears.

"Soon," Caleb said, noticing the process coming to a close. "And... done."

As soon as Caleb’s words came to an end, the princess’s body stopped trembling, and her chest rose and fell as she gasped for breath. The process left her soaked in sweat, but that was not an issue.

A moment later, Celine passed out, her energies drained by the procedure.

"She will be fine." Caleb assured the silent observers. "She will need a bit of healing and a lot of food when she wakes up."

"Mm." Osbourne nodded, pushing the locks of hair that fell on Celine’s face.

Caleb stepped back and away from the bed while the queen slowly made her way over to her daughter, taking Celine’s other hand in hers and giving it a reassuring squeeze.

"T-thank you."

She managed to say through her tear-filled eyes. This was a side she had never shown to the public. But at this moment, she was nothing but a mother – a very emotional one at that.

"Mm."
