Chapter 238: Chapter 237: Frightening in the Middle of the Night

The modern clothes that fell on the ground have been put away by Lin Wanwan. The household servants haven’t seen such things before, so they don’t overthink it.

Lin Wanwan has several wooden chests that are always locked and off-limits to outsiders, so it’s not surprising even to her close servants when she occasionally produces some odd fabrics or items.

While Hong Yan was doing her hair, Lin Wanwan kept yawning. Recently, because of the evolution of the Space-Time Gate, Lin Wanwan has been shuttling back and forth, unknowingly cutting into her sleep time, leaving her in a constant state of spring drowsiness.

After finishing breakfast and teaching the children as usual, Lin Wanwan returned to her room for a midday nap and took out a mechanical watch to check the time. It was noon.

She didn’t rush to catch up on sleep but once again traveled through time back to the present; she still needed to go to Mian City to pay respects to her parents.

Last night, Lin Wanwan returned to the Tang Dynasty at midnight; twelve hours passed in the Great Tang, but only three hours have passed in the present, making it 3 a.m.

She carefully checked her room. Everything seemed in order, so she went downstairs, walked straight to the computer desk, turned on the desk lamp, and tried to review the scenes from last night.

She saw Lu Shouyue’s Phaeton parked in the yard.

"Huh, why is Mr. Lu’s car parked in my yard? Did he take a cab back?" Lin Wanwan stared at the car in the footage for a while but didn’t think much of it.

Then Lin Wanwan sat down and began rewinding the surveillance footage. The progress bar quickly moved to three hours ago, showing the scene where she staggered and was carried upstairs by Lu Shouyue.

Lin Wanwan blushed slightly, thinking she could handle her liquor well. Apparently, her tolerance for beer doesn’t match that for wine.

There were no surveillance cameras upstairs; in no time, Lu Shouyue went downstairs, quickly put on his shoes, went out, the camera switched to outside the door, and he got into the car, then nothing happened.

Hmm? Could it be that Lu Shouyue fell asleep in the car?!

Lin Wanwan stood up, walked to the door, put on outdoor slippers, and moved to the car window of the Volkswagen.

In the dim light of the night, Lin Wanwan couldn’t clearly see the dark interior of the car. Instinctively, she pressed closer to the window to see better.

At this moment, Lu Shouyue, curling uncomfortably in the back seat and feeling watched in a daze, opened his eyes and peered out the window to see a snow-white dressed ancient woman right before him!

"Whoa!" Always calm, Lu Shouyue was instantly startled awake, jolted upright, and ended up bumping his head hard on the car roof, seeing stars dance before his eyes. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

And at the car window, Lin Wanwan, who had just pressed against it for a closer look, was also scared by Lu Shouyue’s sudden movement. She took a step back with a start and almost cried out.

The next second, the car door opened, and the two people inside and outside the car faced each other. After a moment, Lu Shouyue rubbed his forehead and clambered out of the car, smiling wryly at Lin Wanwan: "Wanwan, you’re really... I mean, wow..."

In the night’s dim light, Lin Wanwan, wearing a crescent white ruqun, with an ancient hairstyle supported by a fake hairpiece Hong Yan had done with half let loose, looked quite eerie at first glance in the middle of the night.

Even a beauty dressed like this and walking in the night is scary!

Lin Wanwan glanced down at herself and realized that it was her attire that had startled him. She had calculated that traveling to the present would be at midnight, so she didn’t bother to change clothes, thinking she could change later. Who knew it would cause such a misunderstanding.

Lin Wanwan chuckled awkwardly: "Mr. Lu, why are you sleeping in the car? Did you get drunk? Come inside to rest."

Lu Shouyue raised his wrist and glanced at the watch under the dim light coming through the door. He then looked at Lin Wanwan and sighed: "You sobered up really quick. I thought you’d sleep until morning, but I didn’t expect you could put on an ancient outfit in the middle of the night. Wanwan, I really admire you; are you dressing like this just to scare me in the dead of night?"

Lin Wanwan: "..."

This is such a huge misunderstanding; I have no such idle time to play tricks.

"Really sorry for scaring you. I was drunk and didn’t know what I was doing." Lin Wanwan could only forcibly explain, "Come inside, Mr. Lu, it’s still a bit cold outside at night."

Once inside, Lin Wanwan gave Lu Shouyue a pair of disposable hotel slippers: "Make do with these, Mr. Lu."

Only then did Lu Shouyue fully see Lin Wanwan, surprised: "Your outfit’s embroidery is pretty extraordinary; is it a high-end custom?"

Lin Wanwan casually replied: "Ah, yes, haha."

Remembering how Lin Wanwan had whispered to herself "Why am I back in the present" when she was not sober, Lu Shouyue found it amusing and shared it with Lin Wanwan: "Wanwan, you kept thinking you were from ancient times when you were drunk, no wonder you brought out the ancient attire to wear."

"Huh? Did I really? I didn’t cause any trouble, did I?" Lin Wanwan wiped the cold sweat from her forehead; it was dangerous, almost exposed.

"Not really. You acted like a well-behaved child when drunk, just complaining about not wanting to study."

"Mr. Lu, please stop; it’s too embarrassing. How did I end up like this? I won’t dare drink again!" Lin Wanwan didn’t want to hear more, too ashamed. It was Xiao Chong’s fault for making her recite books while he was drunk, causing her own drunken self to have lingering grievances.

Lu Shouyue laughed with eyes squinting, watching Lin Wanwan busily searching for a medicine box.

Lin Wanwan quickly pulled out a medical ice pack from the medicine box, twisted it open, instantly cooled it, and handed it to Lu Shouyue: "Mr. Lu, apply this to your forehead; it looks kinda swollen."

Lu Shouyue thanked her, accepting it and applying it to the recently bumped spot.

Lin Wanwan then asked him: "Do you want some midnight snack?"

Lu Shouyue shook his head: "No need, it’s too late. We should rest; you too, get some rest."

Though he was willing to spend more time with Lin Wanwan, he realized she must be exhausted after the antics of the night. So, he urged her to rest.

Seeing this, Lin Wanwan acquiesced, moving a quilt from her room to the guest room next door for Lu Shouyue to stay for the night.

"Mr. Lu, the room’s quite simple; make do with it, okay?"

Lu Shouyue smiled: "It’s more than cozy enough, thank you."

Downstairs in the small villa, there was a room that used to belong to Lin Wanwan’s grandparents. Since they both passed away, Lin Wanwan hadn’t changed the setup inside and wouldn’t let anyone stay there.

The second floor was relatively empty, with three rooms: Lin Wanwan’s bedroom, a master bedroom for Lin Zhantian and his wife, and a guest room.

The third floor has a half-floor attic left completely unrenovated, with even the floor still cement as it was used as storage by Lin Wanwan’s grandparents.

After buying the villa, Lin Wanwan had no intention to alter the interior decorating layout, keeping everything the same.

Lu Shouyue lay in a room with just a wooden old-style bed, only a floor and whitewashed walls, and nothing else. Despite that, his mood was excellent, feeling cozier than lying on his bed worth several hundred thousands.
