Gamers Are Fierce-Chapter 613 - 611 Speculating in Real Estate
As the clock struck one in the morning, Li Ang, fully armed and standing silently in the living room, exchanged a glance with Chaichai. Chaichai was focused on Li Ang's appearance while casually playing with his phone on the sofa.
"I'm off," Li Ang said.
"Mhm." Chaichai nodded, pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose, and said in a feigned male voice, "Don't worry, I'll guard this home."
"You're being weird again." Li Ang chided Chaichai with a light chop to the head. He then took a deep breath, opened the player panel, and mentally pressed the newly launched Game Square button.
Without any issues, when he opened his eyes again, Li Ang found himself in a vast square.
The square's ground was paved with white tiles, each ten meters square, their material indiscernible. The space above the square was peculiar; it wasn't a hemispherical dome or a square ceiling. Looking up, one could see a large cluster of black, white, and gray geometric shapes.
These geometric shapes drifted like clouds, slowly approaching, separating, merging, and breaking apart. They formed various configurations, sometimes resembling a futuristic city, other times a colossal Mechanical weapon, all without any discernible pattern. Staring at them for too long could induce a sense of dizziness and confusion.
The square was brightly lit, yet no light source was visible. As far as the eye could see, there were only monsters and demons.
Adhering to the principle "simplicity is perfection," Li Ang had disguised himself as a pickle wearing a white lab coat. His entire body was hidden inside the green pickle costume, with only his eyes and limbs exposed.
As the saying goes, great minds think alike; many players in the square also wore strange and unusual outfits.
The System notification stated that players were prohibited from harming each other in the Game Square. Consequently, most players logging in wore outfits that covered most of their bodies. After all, since no one could harm anyone else, it was natural to dress conservatively for the sake of anonymity.
The more conventional players wrapped themselves in several layers of windproof white blankets. The eccentric ones might wear a BoJack Horseman mask and a Tyrant Dragon cosplay outfit. There were even a few players, apparently a team, dressed as Flash, Batman, and Sea King riding a seahorse. These individuals had good intentions, but unfortunately, their otaku physiques couldn't fill out the superhero costumes, making them look unimpressive and rather listless.
In the bustling square, only soft murmurs could be heard. The vast majority of players remained where they stood, warily sizing up others without moving an inch.
DING DONG. The System notification sounded again. Upon opening it, players saw an announcement about the full opening of the physical mall and personal spaces.
Nearly all players opened their personal panels. Simultaneously, thunderous roars erupted from beneath the square in every direction. Brand new skyscrapers shot up from the ground, the most conspicuous among them being the Mall Building.
The mall stood seventy stories tall and covered a vast area. Its triangular shape was reminiscent of a modern large-scale shopping center. The three exterior walls were plastered with flamboyantly colored neon tube advertisements, giving it a rather ostentatious appearance.
The other buildings that had risen from the ground beside the mall were equally towering and futuristic. However, these structures were mostly black and white, devoid of other colors, and appeared to be inactive.
Upon seeing the mall materialize, the players in the square showed excited expressions and formed a crowd heading towards it.
Li Ang didn't join the crowd. He was quite a distance from the Mall Building, so he stood still, opened his player panel, and began to explore other features.
Let's see, where is the player's personal space option...
The moment Li Ang clicked the personal space option, he vanished and reappeared in a modest, pale room. Simultaneously, information about personal spaces automatically flooded his mind.
For instance, players could use this room as storage. The doors and windows were fake; opening them would teleport the player to a random location in the center of the Game Square. Friends could visit each other's rooms with the owner's permission. Spending money could increase the room's area, and a variety of furniture could be purchased from the online Mall. Custom-ordered furniture would appear directly in the room.
The room beautification feature was clearly designed for players who wanted to play "Dress-Up Arena." Simple items like refrigerators, microwaves, air conditioners, chairs, and benches were quite cheap. However, there were also outrageously expensive large furniture pieces with special effects. If used correctly, these could rival support and logistics-type equipment. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
Examples included a massage chair that increased stamina recovery rate after use, a bar counter that enhanced the user's sense of pleasure, and even some dubious dual porcelain gold-plated flush toilets. These toilets allowed two people to sit side-by-side and, after use, applied a mind-link buff to both individuals.
What weirdos, Li Ang thought, shaking his head. Still, I have to say, the design of this personal space is really quite good; you could totally use it as a home. It's a pity players can't stay in the Game Square indefinitely. After a certain period, they're forcibly logged out. This rule is probably in place to prevent some players from hiding in their personal spaces all the time, refusing to interact with the outside world. After all, the killing fields game is for selecting Transcendents, not for cultivating freeloaders.
After briefly browsing the online furniture Mall, Li Ang logged out of his personal space and teleported back to the Game Square.
By this time, many players had entered the Mall. A smaller number remained in the Game Square, gathered around a few buildings that were now activated.
Is that... the Arena, the Game Square sales office, and the Guild registration office?
Li Ang glanced at the newly launched map feature on his player panel. Evidently, various organizations were already taking advantage of this time to establish their presence.
According to the Game Square rules, players could spend a certain amount of money to be randomly allocated a plot of land by the System. This land could be used to form guilds or set up shops.
Although the plots were allocated randomly, the more money spent, the closer the land would be to the Square's center, and the larger the initial area of the building gifted to the player.
Since these were official organizations, they naturally needed to make a statement. In just a few minutes, a long queue had formed in front of the Game Square sales office, with numerous oddly dressed individuals waiting to buy property.
Among them were representatives of major organizations—whose members had arrived in droves, using their numbers to get ahead in the queue—as well as leaders of smaller factions and some Lone Wolf Players.
Is it really necessary to be so fervent, buying land as soon as they get here? Li Ang mused, smacking his lips. It makes sense for large organizations to buy land to secure advantageous positions. But the others... Hmph, they're probably just looking to flip properties. If they get a good location, they can sell the land quickly and make a fast profit. Damn it! It's because of you property speculators that I can't afford a house!
Although Li Ang was mentally cursing the speculators, his feet honestly carried him toward the sales office.
It's not every day I get to see so many players. Might as well go check it out and broaden my horizons, he thought.
