Future Beast World: Becoming A Pampered Beauty-Chapter 201 - 145: Miss me?
Hearing the sound of footsteps outside, Quan Xiu put his mask back on and vanished from sight.
Just as Sang Luo stepped into the underground palace, a heavy THUD echoed behind her as the stone door slammed shut. She glanced back and saw that the door was closed. It couldn’t be opened from the inside without a key, and the servant who had led her here had disappeared.
Suspicion and unease flashed through her heart.
Sang Luo searched the vicinity with her spiritual power but didn’t detect any danger.
On an altar not far ahead, a white Beast Egg caught her attention.
Sang Luo teleported over to the altar. Staring at the dull, cracked egg, she felt her heart stop...
’I never saw Little Snake hatch, but I remember exactly what the egg looked like when I laid it! I remember it crystal clear!’
’This is my child!’
"You recognize this unborn child." A tall, slender figure appeared.
"I gave birth to it with you, how could I not recognize it!" Sang Luo spun around, seized the man’s Profund Brocade Robe, and tore the damnable mask from his face. She rose onto her toes and kissed him fiercely.
The man’s body went ramrod straight, his heart pounding like a war drum. Her impossibly soft lips, her scent... it all sent tremors through his very core, and heat coiled low in his gut.
The coppery tang of blood spread between their lips, but he seemed oblivious. One arm locked around her lower back, tight enough to fuse her into his very being. His other hand cradled the back of her head as he tilted his own, parting her lips with his tongue to deepen the kiss.
He stole the very air from her lungs, seizing control with utter dominance.
Strands of her silky hair flowed like water through his well-defined fingers.
Sang Luo was nearly breathless from his kiss, her eyes turning red. She bit down hard on his lip again!
He didn’t so much as grunt in pain, only tangling with her for a long while before slowly releasing her.
"Sangsang..."
he murmured.
Tears streamed down Sang Luo’s face. She reached out to gently wipe the blood from his cut lip, her gaze fixed on the coolly handsome man before her, as if to sear his face into her mind forever.
’This was the face she adored most of all.’
Her voice trembled. "Caesar... it’s really you... isn’t it? I wasn’t mistaken..."
"I once suspected there was a sliver of a chance you’d survived... but then I’d think it was just wishful thinking... I was so afraid it would all be for nothing..."
Caesar pulled Sang Luo into his arms again, listening quietly to her broken sobs. For some reason, his own heart ached in sympathy.
Faint purple spiritual power had begun to gather in the palm he rested on her back, preparing to search her memories.
At the last moment, however, he silently withdrew it.
’Forcibly searching memories can damage a person’s spiritual power.’
He rested his chin on her forehead, rubbing it against her gently. "Yes, it’s me."
’I don’t need those memories,’ he thought. ’My body and my instincts will play the part "perfectly."’
It took Sang Luo a long time to compose herself. When she finally did, she studied the Caesar before her now.
His power seemed more profound and potent than before, yet it was tinged with an indescribable, sinister energy. He kept it completely restrained, but Sang Luo, having known him so intimately, could see the change in his aura at a glance.
"You devoured Quan Xiu?"
"...You’re a clever one, Sangsang." Surprise flashed deep in Caesar’s eyes.
He explained, "I was in an accident. My Divine Sense was heavily damaged, and I lost all my previous memories. But in a twist of fate, the incident broke a seal on my childhood memories, allowing me to learn the truth of my heritage."
"Quan Xiu was my full-blooded brother. He possessed the other half of the Soaring Snake bloodline that I needed. Once my power was restored, I returned to the East Continent, fought him to the death, and slayed him. I then seized and refined his soul bone, obtaining the bloodline inheritance of the Soaring Snake Clan."
"Then why are you in Quan Xiu’s estate? And it seems no one knows who you really are..." Sang Luo’s eyes widened in realization. "You’re impersonating him?"
Caesar tapped her lightly on the forehead, a smile playing on his lips. "You’ve guessed it perfectly, Sangsang. Quan Xiu was the most favored adopted son of the Soaring Snake Clan’s Old Beast King. I intend to use his identity to retrieve something."
"And what about our child?" Sang Luo asked, cradling the Beast Egg to her chest, her heart aching with tenderness.
Caesar’s expression dimmed. "It suffered irreversible damage."
’It must be a lingering effect of that crisis,’ Sang Luo thought, recalling how Caesar and the child had been lost to a sea of fire.
A ball of pale green energy gathered at Sang Luo’s fingertip, and she began to slowly channel it into the eggshell. "I was late, but thankfully not too late. Its life force hasn’t completely vanished."
As her power was drained, her face gradually grew pale. Her knees buckled, and she stumbled.
Caesar hurried over to support her. "Don’t push yourself too hard."
Sang Luo shook her head. "I gave birth to this child. Seeing it like this, my heart aches more than anyone’s. This is the only thing I can do as its Beast Mother... Its power and mine are from the same source. I can stabilize its remaining life force, but to hatch it completely... I’m afraid we’ll need to rely on some other power."
"I will make sure our child is born safely," Caesar vowed. He took the Beast Egg from her hands, stored it away in his personal space, then reached out to gently caress her soft cheek. A strange ripple went through his heart. "Do you blame me for not looking for you for so long?"
Sang Luo leaned in and kissed his cheek. "You and our child are both alive. I’m happy... so, so happy. How could I ever blame you for that?"
"I..."
Caesar hesitated, but Sang Luo didn’t notice the flicker of distraction on his face. She hugged his waist and buried her head in his chest, nuzzling him just like she used to.
Her voice was soft and tender. "Caesar, you’re the Beast Husband of my first child, and you’re my most important Beast Husband. You hold an irreplaceable place in my heart. In the year or so since you’ve been gone, I’ve thought of you and our child constantly. You were my deepest regret, the one I could never move on from."
She took his hand and placed it over her heart. "It always ached, right here."
"I won’t leave this time. I’ll never leave you again," he said, his throat tight.
"Yes. You and our child had better stay right by my side. You’re never allowed to leave me again," Sang Luo said, her voice muffled.
The fabric over his chest grew damp again. Caesar couldn’t stand to see her cry. Whenever she did, his heart would clench with a sour ache, and a strange fire would begin to stir within him.
He reached out, tilted her face up, and leaned down to kiss the tears from the corners of her eyes. His voice was low and husky. "Did you really miss me that much?"
"I missed you so much!"
His eyes darkened, and he gave her a knowing smile. "Did *every* part of you miss me?"
Sang Luo froze for a second, her face slowly flushing red. "You don’t mean..."
Caesar pressed her against the wall, lowering his head to skillfully part her lips once more. His hand slid down to her waist, his long fingers moving as if plucking the strings of a zither. "Ngh..." Sang Luo’s body went limp, melting like a puddle of spring water as her arms draped weakly around his neck.
Caesar swept her up into his arms, teleported back to the bedchamber, and laid her down on the bed...
