Chapter 80: Myles’ Response

Despite Myles’ face being hidden by the helm, he asked in a confused tone, "What do you mean, Captain?"

The knight captain shrugged. "Isn’t it strange? Your potential is definitely low, and yet you’ve performed otherwise. Not only that, you’re progressing at a rapid rate. You didn’t even bother hiding it."

He then turned towards his other Blood Knights and said, "Lastly, don’t forget that we have forgotten what my master had said.

You are not a real Blood Knight, you’re just an impersonator.

Unless you reveal your actual identity to us, we won’t never stop doubting you."

The other Blood Knights were stunned. They did not expect the knight captain’s reasoning, as he continued to lay them down, were becoming more solid.

They glanced at Myles, eager for his answer.

Myles, on the other hand, was silent for ten seconds. However, before the knight captain was about to say something, he said, "The Commander is investigating the case, right?

I mean, right now?

Wouldn’t they have already called me or visited me?"

The knight captain instantly replied, "They had just finished cleaning up the mess that the Veil Stalker caused. They were currently gathering after an emergency meeting was announced just for this reason.

And don’t think you’re already out of this. You’re already a primary suspect, you know."

Myles asked, "So, why did you tell me instead of reporting this to the Commander themselves?"

The knight captain stared at him and said gently, "To warn you that you are the biggest suspect. Unless you reveal yourself to us and prove that you really are innocent, then we don’t have a choice but to report what we have observed to you."

The knight captain was, in fact, trying to play safe. If Myles was proven innocent, then his false accusation could easily be cleared after he was trying to help Myles.

Myles asked, "So, does that mean I still have time to reveal myself to you all? The Commander is still away and you’ll help me?"

The knight captain nodded. He turned towards the other Blood Knights and asked, "Isn’t that, right? Everyone?"

The other Blood Knights nodded frantically. They could not spot a mistake from the knight captain’s reasoning.

Like the Veil Stalkers, they were curious about Myles’ secrets, too. They were also deeply curious about his actual appearance.

Hence, they did not mind playing along with their knight captain.

Myles nodded and said, "You know, there is a phrase that is known back to my world."

The knight captain frowned. Myles was suddenly acting strangely. He couldn’t help but put his guard down.

However, Myles suddenly lowered his head and placed his left hand to his face and said, "They say curiosity kills the cat."

The knight captain was wary even more and asked, "What do you mean by that?"

Myles sighed and said, "I mean, my deep curiosity about gaining powers might kill me even though I’m innocent."

The knight captain’s eyebrows creased. He asked, "I can’t follow."

At this moment, his guard lowered. He did not even slap Myles’ hand who suddenly grabbed his shoulder.

He could not follow Myles’ words at all, but one thing was certain, Myles seemed to be distressed that he was the primary suspect because of his reasoning.

It meant he played his part so well.

That was why his guard went down a bit.

Which was enough for Myles to grab the chance.

He said, "But that phrase is actually not directed for me."

He tilted his head upward and stared at the knight captain.

He said in a stern voice, "You know, you should have kept your thoughts to yourself."

Suddenly, hands manifested one after another, grabbing all of the knight captain’s limbs. The shadow hands were swift enough that he failed to protect himself.

He turned towards his fellow Blood Knights and was about to ask for help when he realized there were shadow threads binding them all.

It was not only him who was attacked and restrained, but every Blood Knights present.

He was about to turn his head and glanced at Myles when he realized his neck was bound, too.

However, he was able to utter some words.

"W-Who are you?"

Myles smiled and said, "You know, the only reason why I have not bound you all, simply because of the Commander. Who would have thought that the Veil Stalker I failed experimented with turned out to give me a chance?

And also, like I’ve said, if you have kept your thoughts to yourself and directly report to the Commanders, you might have a chance to get rid of me.

Unfortunately, you didn’t think enough.

You have already considered me as an anomaly, but you have forgotten that I’m really an anomaly."

Myles stood up and walked in front of him. He grabbed the knight captain’s chin and pushed it above him.

His crimson eyes sent terror towards the knight captain and said, "Look closely. This is the anomaly you feared."

The knight captain struggled for a bit, but thankfully, as the element of surprise was with Myles, he was eventually restrained.

After a while, Myles turned towards the other Blood Knights, who were not enslaved yet. They possessed a will that was difficult to break and they were quite powerful enough to struggle and broke free from the shadow threads.

Thankfully, Myles was able to quickly restrain them.

He swept his gaze and was satisfied, hearing the voice in his head echoed again.

[You have gained 25 new followers.

You have now 55 followers in total.

Keep up the good work!]

Myles shrugged. He was elated to know he gained that much followers but he was a bit unhappy knowing he almost messed up.

He even communicated with the Veil Stalkers earlier, almost calling them out in panic to assist him in restraining the Blood Knights.

After all, if he did not hold back in restraining them, the demonic energy of the Law of Shadow would leak out from the Blood Knight’s room.

Hence, he only strategically ordered the Veil Stalkers to keep an eye on the other rooms and report to him as soon as possible for those knights, who possibly sensed his demonic energy...
