From Imp to Demon God: Conquering the Demon World With a Succubus-Chapter 79: The Knight Captain’s Suspicions
Myles did not need to wait long as the next victim of the Chain Knight entered the door. The first Edict Acolyte chatted with him, convincing him to get the bed where his gift for his fellow Chain Knight was waiting.
The Chain Knight was confused. However, since his hard-working junior had a gift for him, he did not mind, anticipating what was the gift awaiting for him.
Just as he arrived closer to the bed, he frowned when he realized there was a law manifesting above the bed. He reacted quickly, but it was not enough for him to escape from the bind of the shadow threads.
He was stunned. He turned towards his fellow Chain Knight and was about to ask for help but he was utterly shocked when he saw him kneeling with one knee in front of the enemy in front of him.
"What are you?"
"Where are you looking?"
The Chain Knight glanced at the origin of the voice and was stunned to see a half-imp and half-incubus sitting on the bed in an imposing manner.
A hybrid? He thought.
He heard him saying, "Where are your manners?"
The shadow threads suddenly forced him to kneel with one knee. He was horrified. He was completely helpless against the shadow threads, they were stronger than the shadow threads he was familiar with from the incubus themselves.
He wanted to tilt his head, but he could not. However, as though the shadow threads perceived his intention, his head slowly tilted upward.
The Chain Knight glanced at the hybrid and a terror slowly crept towards him. For unknown reason, something was hiding deep inside the hybrid... something more terrifying, enough for his soul, mind, and body to be willingly offered to him—the something.
...
You have gained another follower.
The voice in his mind echoed again, providing a deep sense of satisfaction towards Myles.
After all, he now has 30 followers. It would only be a matter of time before the races he conquered would expand.
Hence, for the rest of the night, Myles waited until the first Edict Acolyte himself received information that all of the Chain Knights, including their captain and commander would return...
...
Myles returned to his room and discovered just in time the other Blood Knights had returned.
They were conversing about a topic that piqued Myles’ interest.
"It’s really strange no matter how many times I wracked my brain. A Veil Stalker suddenly attacked a Pyre Champion and deliberately killed himself from the Pyre Champion’s retaliation, no less. What was he thinking?"
Myles was familiar with the voice, it belonged to the first knight sergeant.
The knight captain replied, "Yeah. The Veil Stalker’s primary role was to gather intelligence and infiltrate, not to expose themselves and play a circus. This thing is being investigated by all the commanders too. They were determined to know the cause."
As they were in the middle of the conversation, slowly sitting at the usual seat where they would gather in a circle, Myles appeared from his bed, wearing his mantle.
The knight captain simply glanced at Myles and was not a bit surprised to see Myles was already in the room.
Just as he was about to return his focus to the topic earlier, a sudden thought flashed his mind.
He teased Myles, "Did you hear what we talked about? Since you were alone here, you better have an alibi that you are not involved in this mess. You are the most strange knight, you know?
The fact that this only occurred after the enrollment would really make you a suspect."
Myles chuckled and sat beside them.
The other Blood Knights soon entered, while the Commander had not arrived yet.
Myles replied, "Why do you think so, Captain?"
The knight captain rolled his eyes and shrugged. "In the first place, you have shown the least potential and yet you continued to prove you were stronger even than your seniors. I bet you can fight me and last for many rounds, too.
Furthermore, your mental resistance against Law of Charm was high—enough to call the Guardian of Scarlet Bond just to clean up your mess.
And lastly, the Veil Stalker appeared to have been mentally controlled. I mean, that’s the only plausible reason why he would act like that.
If it was proven you awakened an affinity with the Law of Charm and used it to the Veil Stalker earlier, you would definitely be punished."
The other Blood Knights, when they heard their captain’s reasoning, couldn’t help but laugh.
However, their laughter slowly died down when they realized that their captain’s reasoning made sense.
They ended up staring at Myles and their synchronized actions made Myles chuckled.
He replied, "Well, the Captain’s reasoning made sense. But, you all are missing a point."
He grinned. "Since when awakening an affinity with a law is as easy as developing resistance to them?
Shouldn’t our ancestors have also awakened a Law of Charm, given they were exposed to their master’s secrets—their demonic arts and the law of charm’s affinity—throughout their entire life?"
The Blood Knights agreed with them. However, the Captain instantly replied, "Well, you are an anomaly. From what I heard, an anomaly usually creates an event that can’t be easily explained.
But it’s easy to point them out."
The Captain pointed at Myles.
"And it’s you."
The Blood Knights were stunned. They did not expect the Captain to suddenly blame Myles for the strange events earlier.
Furthermore, the fact that Myles was now sitting beside the Captain only made their heart feel tightened.
They felt something bad was about to happen.
The Captain, on the other hand, was pointing at Myles with a solemn expression.
He blamed Myles for two reasons: jealousy and intuition.
When he knew about the Veil Stalker’s strange action and how it led to his death, the image of Myles randomly popped up in his head.
He wouldn’t have suspected someone unless he had a solid basis, but he was also jealous of Myles’ growth.
Although Myles’ potential was revealed to be low, he couldn’t shake the feeling that he would surpass him soon.
Hence, it was better to bring him down as early as he could...
