Freedom Jumper-Chapter 87: Newfound Passion
Chapter 87: Newfound Passion
Three days passed since "the night of truth", and Elijah received a very long letter detailing the finals of the Hunter tournament. Within the red core mages, there were 122 people in the finals, which meant six rounds that each participant would fight, with 4 participants having a by-round. The names of the participants were all listed within the four-zoned bracket.
Names that caught Elijah's attention were Emery Damaris, Jared Ruby, Elyas Ruby, Aeryn Saurswift, Chec Creveron, and Jack Riskwell. While he did recognize some last names like Wooddrove, Newsom, Whitlock, and Cavendish, these names meant nothing as he never had any personal interactions with any of these people. The kingdom is filled with powerful people of which he hadn't even seen five percent of. The division of the five hunter guilds was mainly the reason, which makes this tournament all the more exciting for Elijah to think about.
As Elijah was sitting down in the sunroom of the estate—a room filled with long and soft chairs meant for resting and a soft mat meant for stretching—Don entered the room to peek at Elijah's body. The man had a complete turn around, and while his wife and other son were in hiding, Don seemed to return to us past self. Or rather... His new self.
"Elijah, I know you want to get stronger, but what is your end goal in life? What do you want out of it?" Don briefly paused without letting Elijah speak just yet. "I know you have already lived a proud life, but I was once an avid potion maker, someone who excelled in the extraction of mana from cores and mixing the raw mana with various herbs for a desired effect. Something completely changed my trajectory, and it still turned out well."
This question brought a lot of wind into Elijah's mind. Honestly, he had been ignoring this obvious fact... for a reason. "I have no idea what lies outside these walls besides what Amaris has told me, and to be honest, I am suspicious of him for a few reasons... So I won't be thinking about that until I know more. There are too many questions in my mind to answer the main idea of life."
"Hahaha, you definitely are not lying about your previous life! Your reasoning for everything plays a big role in why I think you are truly wise. Would you like to add some more knowledge to that brain of yours? Potion crafting?" Don scooted closer in his wheelchair.
'Learning potions could not hurt. What if I am in a situation where I am out of mana? What if I simply want to—'
Elijah paused for a brief moment and scratched his chin. His nice and smooth fingernails scraped the bottom of his chin while taking off fresh skin.

"When can we start?!" The eyebrows on Elijah's face rose along with his eyes widening in joy.
...
The morning air of the Weltor estate rooftop was only slightly chilly. No cold breath was seen, but the air would still make anyone without tan skin, shiver.
Next to a large herb garden containing herbs like aloe, ginger, garlic, basil, rosemary, thyme, and chamomile, is Don explaining to Elijah the use of each one. "Aloe is always found within every healing potion made within the kingdom as a base. However, if you add ginger, it becomes a healing potion that will fill you with energy. If you add rosemary, your thoughts and motions will become more fluid, and chamomile will force you to fall asleep within an hour depending on the amount and potency. We don't have potions for increasing physical strength, but only healing potions that could save your life."
Elijah was not surprised by the lack of variety. Afterall there is a limited variety of resources within the kingdom. "Do you think there are herbs out there that can generate a strength enhancing effect? Actually, do you think plants other than just herbs can create potions?"
Sigh* "I swear Elijah, ever since that day I have been learning just as much as when I was at the magic academy... I do believe there are plants—that may not even be plants but something else out there that can create potions with effects we have never seen before. I would say the grapes that are turned into wine would create an effect attune to drinking the alcohol itself."
"What I am getting from this, is that the basic natural properties of anything, herbs for example, are not changed, but increased by pure mana to the point it creates these magical effects."
"That is quite interesting. I have actually never thought about it like that. It makes logical sense, so I suppose we can describe the process like that from now on. I do think part of it has to do with your intent. That is how magic in general is taught, but it also relates to potion making. I'm sure you know a little about it as well."
The conversation continued with the deciding of different combinations they were going to make. A ginger and garlic healing potion that would heal any wounds within the body, but also detox harmful poisons as well. This was necessary with the seductress in the kingdom. Also, A basil potion and chamomile potion was to be made. Elijah remembers the small vials Don had within his bag when he was five years old. A sleeping potion that would heal could be used for an assassination, or even a precaution.
After picking proper amounts of everything, Don and Elijah walked down the closed staircase, and into the kitchen where they began prepping all the ingredients.
"Now, all you have to do is pour some of your water magic in the bowl while keeping a grasp on the mana inside, then throw in the herbs. This will certainly not be as potent as a potion made using the mana of a beast core or mana crystal, but with your mana that is inside the water, everything will mix together and create a suitable potion that can even be sold."
Loosely chopped aloe, ginger, and garlic were all thrown into a metal bowl, and within a matter of minutes, the color of the water began to change as the herbs within began to mix with the mana. What was left was a light brownish-yellow liquid that did not look visually stunning, but smelled magnificent. The scents of garlic and ginger were amplified to an extent.
Don guided Elijah through making the other healing potions, and after three bowls were full of liquid, they were distributed into glass jars that were tightly closed. Later today, Don would go to a potion market to buy small vials, but for now, this would do.
'If this has an effect like I think it will, this will surely become a new hobby of mine. I could call these supplements on steroids except for the fact that I am not necessarily getting isolated forms of any compound the body could use, but rather a potent targeted effect from a magical potion.'
The father and son bonding time came to an end as Elijah had one last activity he needed to act on before the start of the tournament tomorrow. Ever since the end of the King of Crystals game, he had been stretching and practicing swordsmanship all throughout the day with many breaks.
Since Elijah's plan to leave the kingdom was abruptly decided, he needed to have a conversation with Abel to see if it was possible to leave through The Catacombs. Also, without the added complication of Niko being thrown into an unknown place, Elijah will have to decide on a rescue mission, or to just abandon the one person he can sympathize with...
