Fortunate to Have You This Lifetime-Chapter 1044: Work Harder_1
Chapter 1044: Chapter 1044: Work Harder_1
The bell rang for class, and everyone found their seats. Seeing that the teacher hadn’t come in yet, Purple Summers turned to Norton Young and said, "If you don’t want to go, just refuse, don’t be embarrassed."
Purple Summers noticed a hint of resistance in Norton’s eyes when that girl mentioned Santa Claus.
Although the girl’s attitude seemed affectionate, not every boy was willing to face this kind of adoration. Frankly, they thought Norton was perfect for Santa Claus because he looked fair, plump, and simple and adorable.
Norton managed a wry smile and said, "Actually, it doesn’t matter... I’m the kind of person who wouldn’t have any girls willing to dance with me at the Christmas dance; I might as well be Santa Claus, at least everyone likes Santa Claus."
"You need to have more confidence," Purple Summers comforted him. "You haven’t even gone yet; how do you know no girls will want to dance with you?"
Norton shook his head self-deprecatingly: "Even I wouldn’t ask to dance with girls who are short, fat, and ugly, and the girls feel the same way, only wanting to find tall, handsome dance partners."
The words were somewhat uncomfortable to hear, so Purple Summers held her tongue and said nothing.
At this point, Norton asked her, "If... if I asked you to dance at the Christmas dance, would you dance with me?"
Purple Summers was slightly taken aback, then replied, "Of course, why not?"
They were friends; what was wrong with dancing a dance together?
A smile appeared on Norton’s face, as if he was very pleased.
He didn’t know that Purple Summers wasn’t going to attend this year’s Christmas dance at the institute, and she, taking his question as a casual one, didn’t bother to explain.
The teacher entered the classroom, and the class began, quieting down to only the rustling of note-taking.
As the end of the semester approached, there weren’t as many frequent exams and quizzes as in high school, but there were various professional assessments, so everyone in the classroom was very serious.
Norton, in particular, was serious, so much so that it seemed difficult for him.
His grades in every subject were just average.
To say "average" was actually a euphemism; the students who could get into this place were all outstanding, and when everyone else excelled, average meant falling behind, meant not making the cut.
Victoria Morrison seemed to have a particular dislike for Norton, scolding him several times during each class.
"If you lack talent, you need to train your ability! If your ability isn’t enough, you have to work harder, and if it’s still not enough after working harder, you have to work even harder, and keep on striving relentlessly!"
As she preached "hard work," she banged the lesson plan folder on Norton’s desk with a loud thud!
"You have no right to slack off! No right to laze around! If you want a lazy life, leave my classroom right now! The institute is not for you!"
Norton’s head hung low, his chin almost against his chest, his face red and ears scarlet; the embarrassment was extreme.
All the other students held their breath, not daring to make a sound, for fear of inciting Mrs. Morrison’s wrath.
Mrs. Morrison was too strict.
Among a group of open-minded and gentle college professors, Victoria Morrison was quite the anomaly.
After being scolded, Norton’s glasses were steaming up, as if he were about to cry.
Purple Summers couldn’t stand to watch; she felt that Victoria Morrison was taking out the anger she had towards herself on Norton!
After class, Purple Summers went to argue with Mrs. Morrison.
"Mrs. Morrison, don’t you think there’s something inappropriate with your teaching method?" Purple Summers said, "The things you said are too hurtful!"
Mrs. Morrison’s expression was cold, "Did I say something wrong? The institute is here to cultivate legal talent for the country, not a nursing home! If you want to slack off, leave early!"
"Norton has not been slacking off! He has always worked very hard!" Purple Summers defended.
"Has he worked hard? At least from the homework he hands in regularly, I don’t see any effort." Mrs. Morrison curled her lip with a disdainful smile. "All I see is him busy currying favor with the social elite, trying to please everyone. Well, it seems pleasing has some use after all, look, now someone is taking up his cause, aren’t they?"
The last sentence was a blow to Purple Summers as well. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel-com
