Chapter 207: Worst mistake of my life

Theo’s POV:

I was wracking my mind to come up with a strategy that doesn’t involve hurting Celestia. The only way I can stop the coronation from happening is by showing others that she is not fit for the crown.

How can I do that without hurting Celestia?! I fell on the mattress and pressed my temples with fingers—as I wasn’t able to come up with any strategy.

So far, all of my tricks involved bringing down my rivals—but now I have to bring down my lover and also not hurt her in that process. This is a difficult quest even for me!

I jumped from my bed when I saw a girl with a black cloak enter my room. She had her head hidden with the black hoodie; still, I knew who she was.

I immediately opened my sheath and took away the little dead rock from it. I don’t want anything to suppress my powers when I am slaying Lilin. As soon as I dropped the dead rock on the floor, my energy got stronger.

Lilin lowered down her cloak and revealed herself to me. I was so maddened to see her face. She is one of the reasons for the death of my beloved. I pleaded with her so much to release me—but she didn’t.

Since then, I have been waiting for the day where she would come face to face with me. Now I have finally gotten that opportunity.

I stuck her with the silver flames from my hand—which hit her right on her arm. She let out a scream and crumbled down to the ground.

But Lilin was quickly able to heal her hand from my flames. "Silver Shadow... I am not here to fight with you. I am here to make a deal with you—"

"Lilin, I don’t care what you want; because I decided to slay you a long time ago, and I am going to do it now."

I grabbed her throat and strangled them with my hands. She tried to free her neck from my grip, but she couldn’t do it as I am physically stronger than her.

"This is for backstabbing me when I needed your help the most," I growled at her.

Lilin started coughing as I squeezed her neck even more than before.

"I...never betrayed.....you," she struggled hard to say that out. "Oberon.... made me do that....."

I immediately freed her neck when I heard the name Oberon. "What the hell are you saying? Oberon made you do it?"

"Yea," she said and touched her reddened neck. "He told me to keep you chained down in the cavern of darkness. Oberon was the one who made me betray you—"

"Still, it doesn’t change the fact that you betrayed me—so you are going to pay for it."

"No, stop," she shouted and moved back. "We both have a common enemy here! We both are looking forward to bringing down Oberon. So I am not your enemy here—"

"Oh, Lilin! You know that it doesn’t work that way. You want to destroy Celestia—and anyone who wants to harm my lover is my mortal enemy."

"No, I didn’t! My mother told me to do it," she cried. "You know how controlling my mother is. She told me that I should destroy Celestia or else she would have banished me forever from the Shadowlands."

Something is skeptical with Lilin. Why is she so desperate to make a deal with me? And she is full of pride, just like me. She doesn’t take it well when someone insults or assaults her.

I have attacked her multiple times now; still, she is calm? Then it is useless to attack her! I have to find out what her motive is.

"So you wanted to destroy Celestia because of your mother’s instructions?"

"Yes," she nodded intently. "I have nothing against the Dawn. All I ever wanted to do was to accomplish the quests that my mother gives me and make her happy—"

I wasn’t able to believe a word that she said. But I have to keep talking to her to find out the truth behind her lies.

"So you just want to make your mother happy? And now you want to make a deal with me on behalf of your mother?"

"Yes," she said. "My mother has given me a quest to destroy Oberon, and it involves joining hands with you."

"And why exactly do you want to destroy Oberon?"

"Because Oberon betrayed my mother in a deal—and now she wants revenge."

What she said now sounded true to me. Oberon tends to make deals with his rivals and backstab them in the end. It is one of his strategies—that I learned from him only when I was young.

When Oberon does that, he is called the righteous King. But when I do the same, I am tagged as a trickster. This is so unfair!

"What deal did Oberon make with the Demon Queen?"

Before she answered my question, she took her hand from her neck and brushed her raven black hair with her fingers. Her neck was not red anymore.

"After I got the powers of Nephilim, Oberon came alone to the Shadow castle and met my mother. He said that he was going to kill the Dawn just to end the feud between Angels and Demons—"

My breathing got heavy as the anger took over me. Lilin could be lying too, but what she said now is definitely true.

Oberon had been planning to kill Celestia ever since I took Oath of Eternity with her. He didn’t like the fact that Celestia belonged to me forever.

"Oberon knew that you would be an obstacle in his pathway, so he asked the Demon Queen to distract your attention from Celestia. That is why I attacked the Selene Kingdom and the borders of the light realm to distract you—"

And I fell in her vicious trap and left Celestia alone. Then Oberon manipulated Celestia in my absence and made her sacrifice herself.

It seems like I am the biggest reason why my love died! I should have known better than to fall into the traps laid by Oberon.

Leaving her alone was the worst mistake I have ever made in my life!
