Flip the Coin [BL]-Chapter 249. Questions
"His whole brain is constantly active, even if he doesn’t use the areas activated." Dr. Thompson reminded.
"That’s right. Not only his ability; his whole brain works like this..." Dr. Lawrence muttered.
"Do you feel weak? Dizziness or constant tiredness? Overly hungry?"
"Nope."
"How often do you defecate?" Dr. Thompson suddenly asked.
I sighed, asking myself if this was really the right setting for such questions, in front of the two women... and Henry...
"Not in the last week."
"You weren’t on the toilet for over a week?" He repeated. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Henry, standing behind me, bent down and put his head on my shoulder.
"Me neither."
"Do you two feel constipated?" Dr. Thompson asked.
I shook my head, and Henry gave a verbal ’No.’
"Hm..." Dr. Lawrence seemed excited but still absentminded.
"You know what this means?" She asked the girl, only to answer her question herself.
"They can utilize the food they eat to an extreme. Even byproducts we can’t use and need to get rid of... Fascinating."
Henry straightened up and asked if I could finally change back into my clothes. The doctors nodded and waved us away, continuing to discuss our digestive systems, while Ethan was still waiting for the copies to finish.
Henry took my wrist and dragged me back to the MRI room, where the changing room was behind a curtain on the side. There was my broken smartwatch, along with the bracelet, which I had been advised to take off before getting scanned.
"That escalated quickly." Henry hummed, watching me change unabashedly.
"You know the judge?" I asked him.
"Yeah, he was the one who locked me up. A good fellow." He reminisced happily.
"Bwahahaha, nice to meet old acquaintances." I stepped into my pants and put my red bracelet and smartwatch on.
We went back, and Dr. Lawrence asked us with hopeful eyes,
"We said no blood, but can we have a probe of your feces?"
"No," I said icily, my face falling.
Ethan had a coughing fit, which seemed to be because of suppressed laughter. He did a good job today as well, so let him have his fun at my expense.
Dr. Lawrence seemed disappointed but nodded nevertheless. "Let’s change locations; we have so much to talk about."
"The copies are ready as well." Ethan handed each of them a stack of papers before turning to us. "I’ll keep your copies."
"Yeah, thank you for today." I nodded at him, and we said our goodbyes, after Ethan made sure we were really alright, escorted by a male nurse who suddenly showed up.
Dr. Lawrence led us to a white room with a table and two chairs on each side before asking for another chair to be brought.
Finally, she sat down, and Henry and I did so across from her after there were enough chairs.
"Since when have you been able to use your ability? You said it was inborn." There was paper and a pen in front of her.
"Next question." I couldn’t really answer that because she didn’t know about my visions and the coin and such, which I wanted to keep that way.
She pressed her lips together but let it slide.
"What happens to the things you take from your memories? I mean in the past?"
"No idea."
She rolled her pen over the table.
"Can you replicate this?" I touched the pen before rolling it back to her and conjuring it up.
I naturally didn’t need the ’catch’ motion anymore to take something out; just imagining it was enough.
Dr. Lawrence put the pens side by side, seeing no difference between them.
"Can you put it back?" I took the pen and let it disappear.
"Now, bring it back." I obeyed.
"Henry, please destroy it with your power." I gave Henry the pen, and he did just that before giving me back a clump of plastic.
Chuckling, I didn’t really know what to do with it when the doctor asked me to put it back.
I did as instructed, and Dr. Lawrence examined her pen, the original.
"So you are really replicating these things..."
"It shouldn’t be a replication," I said, thinking of Henry and his bite scars.
"Why do you say that?" she asked, and I just shrugged.
"Okay, we will test that later." She turned to Henry.
"Henry, can you describe your power for me?"
"The power of destruction." He said solemnly, and I suppressed my laughter.
"What exactly are you doing?"
"Envisioning the shadowy energy and touching something," Henry answered simply.
"Do you always melt things?"
"No, sometimes things corrode; sometimes they melt; sometimes they turn into ashes."
"How about if you touch fluids, like water?" She asked, and Henry shrugged.
Dr. Lawrence looked at me, so I conjured up a cup with water in it and put it on the table in front of Henry. He wrapped his hand in the shadow energy and put his finger inside the water. It evaporated instantly, the whole cup empty, and when Henry touched the glass cup, it pulverized.
I wanted to touch the pulver, but Henry grabbed my wrist.
"No, maybe the pulver is still sharp or something." He didn’t let go and held my hand, placing it on his thigh and continuing to hold it.
Whatever.
"Do you think your power is emitting extremely high temperatures?"
"Not really, the things I touch just get destroyed in one way or another."
"Mhm. Since when do you have this power?"
"Next question." Henry copied me, and I saw Dr. Lawrence becoming increasingly dissatisfied.
But then she looked at the pulverized glass and relaxed her face again.
"If we let you touch more materials, would you consent to try your ability on them?" She asked him, and he looked at me before nodding.
"Very good."
"One moment, please." She stood up and left the room.
"Not so bad, right?" I asked Henry, nudging him with the hand I still held.
"Yeah. The ’Corruption Doctor’ wasn’t as nice." He said, squeezing my hand.
"Why, what did he do?" I asked him, furrowing my brows.
"Just asking more annoying questions." He said, looking away.
That was clearly a lie.
"What did he do?" I repeated, not liking that someone did something to what was mine while I had no idea of it.
Henry looked at me, more excited than he should be.
"Worried?"
"Yes." I said, seeing him light up at my answer.
"If I tell you, will you let me help you breathe again?" He asked, coming closer.
"Here?" I looked at the ceiling but found no cameras. Won’t do it either way.
"No, when we shower again."
"No." I turned my head away.
"We won’t shower together again."
"Why?" He leaned forward to obstruct my view as I stared straight ahead.
"You need to ask?"
"We are all men; what does it matter?"
Well... I didn’t know how to answer that.
"Shut up." I conjured up a lollipop and stuffed it in his free hand to divert his attention and give him something to do while I was getting my answer one way or another:
I flipped the coin.
