Chapter 782: Chapter 782: Hearing About the Past from Her Own Lips

As breakfast was about to finish, Jasper Sinclair suddenly said, "Nora, why don’t you talk about our first meeting?"

Nora Northwood had her head buried in a glass of milk, completely unaware that the person in front of her was observing her every change second by second.

Her hands paused for half a second, and making sure she hadn’t misheard, she asked, "Why the sudden interest in the past?"

"I want to know more about the past, and you."

"You could save that question for Grandma. She can describe it to you in a more vivid way."

"I’m more inclined to hear you say it in your own words."

Nora pulled out a napkin, dabbed the corners of her mouth, and then tossed it into the trash can with utmost grace.

Then, unhurriedly, she replied, "I’ll tell you about our first meeting after I get back from work."

Jasper didn’t get the answer he imagined; soon, a layer of darkness shrouded his face. "Nora, are you teasing me?"

"What if I am."

"It’s fine, it’s just that the driver mentioned the car broke down halfway, and it can’t take you to work."

"Switch to another car."

"Even if you switch, it would still break down."

Nora realized that this man was deliberately being unreasonable!

Yet, she was at a loss for what to do with him.

After a back-and-forth, she could only delve into the past.

Nora, in a huff, refused to look at Jasper, turned her gaze elsewhere, and brought up the past, "It’s actually pretty much like you know. I was dumped by my then intended spouse; their family didn’t want to pay the bride price. It was Grandma Sinclair who was willing to lend me the money, provided that I married you."

"So, was that 180,000 important to you?"

She nodded, "Very important, so important that it affected the rest of my life."

In hindsight, Nora’s choice was the right one, and if time were to rewind, she would still choose Grandma Sinclair.

She continued, "Grandma Sinclair had a heart problem, and her dying wish was to see you get married and have children. To make her happy, you agreed to get the marriage certificate with me, and so our marriage started smoothly."

"Were you willing to marry a stranger?"

"Of course not, but there was no better option. Later I wrote an IOU, promising to repay the money and then divorce, so we could pursue our own lives."

Jasper was shocked, seemingly unable to believe her "foolishness" at the time. Anyone else, being associated with someone on the rich list, would certainly not want to let go.

Nora continued, "There’s a saying that feelings grow over time. After spending days and days together, we naturally couldn’t escape this rule and just naturally ended up together. But you hid your identity from me. I didn’t know you were from the Sinclair Family."

"Did you think I believed you were a person greedy for fame and fortune?"

"Maybe so. The exact reason is probably only known by you."

Nora slightly adjusted her breathing, trying to make her tone sound very calm.

Their first encounter ended within her faint description.

By this point, feeling a slight dryness in her mouth, she finished the last sip of milk in her cup, now cold.

"I’ve said all there is to say; can I leave now?"

"Mm, go to work, see you tonight."

"See you tonight" — a few words that were quite subtle concerning their current relationship.

Nora didn’t say anything, grabbed her bag, and left the house straight away, disappearing from Jasper’s sight.
