Flash Marriage: Pampered by Mr.Bigshot-Chapter 396 - 395: The War Spreads to the Little Rabbit
In the empty living room, the echo of Yancy Hastings’s footsteps reverberated, resonating deep within Evelyn Peary’s heart.
He was still in his camouflage suit, concealing his robust muscles.
He exuded an aura that only a true man of iron will could possess. His pace seemed slow, yet his strides were large, and in no time, he was standing before Evelyn Peary.
"Um..." This is so awkward, Evelyn Peary thought, breaking the silence first. She even considered greeting Yancy Hastings with feigned surprise, What a coincidence, you’re here too?
"Do you hate me that much?" Yancy Hastings frowned, his tanned, healthy skin making it hard to read his expression. His brows were tightly knitted, his eyes slightly narrowed.
"Not at all," Evelyn Peary quickly replied. How could I possibly hate him? We’ve known each other for so long and were very close, even though we haven’t met in ages. That childhood bond is still there, more or less.
"Then why won’t you marry me?" Yancy Hastings genuinely couldn’t understand; he didn’t comprehend Evelyn Peary’s reasoning. If she doesn’t dislike me, why wouldn’t she marry me? Is there something wrong with me? Family background, connections, money, power—I have it all. Countless heiresses wish to marry me, a testament to my excellence. However, I don’t want to marry those rigid, cookie-cutter heiresses. Nor do I wish to marry those subservient, vulgar, crude, and petty common women. After careful consideration, Evelyn Peary is the only one who meets my criteria. But why wouldn’t she marry me, even though she clearly doesn’t hate me?
Evelyn Peary couldn’t even force a smile.
"Do I need a reason not to marry you?" Evelyn Peary raised an eyebrow. Not wanting to is reason enough.
"Yancy Hastings, don’t you think you’re a bit too full of yourself? If I were to marry anyone I don’t dislike, I would have been married eight hundred times by now," Evelyn Peary retorted. After speaking, she glanced at Maxwell Peary. Good, he doesn’t seem angry about what I said. Since her older brother wasn’t angry, she felt emboldened to continue.
Yancy Hastings was taken aback, his brows furrowing as he looked at her.
"But I’m the only one who’s worthy of you."
Evelyn Peary was speechless. Damn it, it was as if he hadn’t understood a word! What an egomaniac! A total male chauvinist! Utterly shameless!
"In any case, I just won’t marry you. The reason is none of your concern." Evelyn Peary, abandoning any attempt to reason with him, stated her decision bluntly. Then, she huffily plopped down on the sofa, her expression clearly saying, ’I’m not listening to another word.’
Seeing her anger, Yancy Hastings rubbed his nose. Did I say something wrong?
"Maxwell," Yancy Hastings said, turning to Maxwell Peary. As long as I can convince him, I can essentially marry Evelyn. Although... I really can’t think of any reason why Maxwell would refuse.
"Nia, what do you think of these two?" Maxwell Peary didn’t even glance at Yancy Hastings. Instead, he turned to the young woman seated beside him.
A heavy silence fell upon the room. Was he indicating to everyone present that Nia Mitchell’s decision would be his decision? Or was he trying to show others how important Nia Mitchell was to him?
Nia Mitchell swallowed hard, feeling extremely uncomfortable under the weight of everyone’s stares. She fidgeted, clearly put on the spot. This is so awkward; he’s deliberately making things difficult for me!
"Um... this is Evelyn’s business, so... Evelyn... um... well..." As she trailed off, Nia Mitchell met Yancy Hastings’s intense gaze, flinched, and didn’t dare say more.
Nia Mitchell was right, in principle. It *was* indeed Evelyn Peary’s decision to make. However, Evelyn had already refused. By saying what she did, Nia was essentially echoing that refusal. So, how could Yancy Hastings possibly look at her kindly?
"What do you think you’re doing?!" Maxwell Peary demanded, his brow furrowing instantly when he saw the expression on Yancy Hastings’s face.
