Flash Marriage: Pampered by Mr.Bigshot-Chapter 346 - 345: The Rabbit’s Courage Keeps Growing
Maxwell Peary froze. Cursing under his breath, he thought, Damn it, I actually forgot about that.
"Understood."
After hanging up, Maxwell Peary stepped into the elevator. He hesitated for a moment before dialing Nia Mitchell’s number.
「Lotus Residence」
In the most exclusive private booth, the air was filled with a pleasant floral fragrance. Its windows overlooked a small garden.
At night, lamps throughout the Lotus Residence’s garden were lit, perfectly illuminating the enchanting beauty of each flower.
"Drink less, this wine has a kick," EdbertNia Mitchell reminded her, placing a glass of fruit juice in front of her.
Upon hearing this, Nia Mitchell stuck out her tongue playfully.
"This fruit wine is so sweet and fragrant."
EdbertNia Mitchell shook his head helplessly. She’ll probably be drunk soon, he guessed.
"Are you living at the Royal View Villa now? Should I take you back later?"
Charles Northwood had always believed he was the last to find out about Nia Mitchell’s failed engagement.
It wasn’t until years later, when people casually mentioned it, that he discovered some had learned of it even later than he had.
After all those years, his sense of grievance finally eased.
Hearing EdbertNia Mitchell’s words, Nia Mitchell suddenly felt a little embarrassed.
"Um... actually, Hendry Hampton and I... we broke up. We didn’t get engaged."
Now, whenever Nia Mitchell spoke of Hendry Hampton, she felt only disgust and revulsion, nothing else.
She said this calmly, but it greatly shocked EdbertNia Mitchell.
"Why?"
He had never imagined that Nia Mitchell and Hendry Hampton, who were already at the stage of engagement and marriage, would break up so suddenly without any warning...
"There’s no point talking about it now; it’s all in the past."
Nia Mitchell was so composed that EdbertNia Mitchell decided not to press the issue.
However, he wouldn’t just let it go like this. After this dinner, he would have his people investigate, he decided.
"Why didn’t you return to Star Media and instead go to MC?"
This question had been weighing on his mind for hours, and he finally voiced it.
Nia Mitchell smiled awkwardly, then picked up her fruit juice and took small sips.
She had been so determined to resign before. If she went back to work just because her engagement failed, she herself would find it too embarrassing.
"MC is quite good too."
Faced with such a noncommittal answer, EdbertNia Mitchell didn’t inquire further, simply nodding and continuing his meal.
Just then, Nia Mitchell’s phone suddenly rang, shattering the somewhat awkward silence between them.
Nia Mitchell breathed a sigh of relief and quickly took out her mobile phone.
But when she saw the caller ID, she froze.
It was Maxwell Peary.
The events of that afternoon flooded her mind. She paused for a moment, her free hand slowly clenching into a fist.
EdbertNia Mitchell is still sitting opposite me, she thought. I can’t let him see that anything’s wrong.
"Hello?" Nia Mitchell answered, her voice immediate.
"Where are you?" Maxwell Peary’s voice came through, his face grim as he sat in the car fastening his seatbelt.
"I’m out for dinner."
"I asked, where are you!" Maxwell Peary raised his voice, repeating his question.
"I’m out having dinner. I’ll head back on my own after I’m done."
Hearing his tone, Nia Mitchell felt a flicker of annoyance.
"Nia Mitchell, your nerve is growing, isn’t it?"
Maxwell Peary’s hand paused as he was fastening his seatbelt, his expression turning even more somber.
Just hearing his voice over the phone made Nia Mitchell instinctively shiver. She reached for the fruit wine before her and gulped it down in one go.
"I told you, I’ll go back on my own after I finish dinner."
