Chapter 328: Blessings

–Damon–

My chest tightened at the sight of Kai lying on the hospital bedβ€”machines surrounding him, tubes and wires keeping him alive. Even the bed was specially designed to support his back. π‘“π˜³π‘’π‘’π“Œπ˜¦π˜£π˜―β„΄π‘£π˜¦π‘™.π˜€π‘œπ‘š

My best friend.

My cousin.

And yet... a bad man.

Livana once told me that evil people don’t die easily.

So I’m counting on that.

"What are you thinking?" Sophia asked.

"He’s evil," I replied flatly. "He won’t die easily."

She rolled her eyes.

"He better wake up. It’s been three days, Damon."

"He will." I patted her back. "Now go to your room and rest. I’ll take care of him."

"I’ll stay here."

She didn’t move.

"Sophia, come onβ€”"

I reached for herβ€”and to my surprise, she collapsed.

I caught her head and back just in time as Francis rushed in and scooped her up without hesitation.

He didn’t even think twice.

I was about to follow them, but my eyes shifted back to Kai.

And the promise I made to Sophia.

I can’t leave him.

She’d kill me.

I sat back down and pressed my forehead against my palm.

"Damn it..."

I looked up again, my gaze drifting toward the glass.

Kai lay motionless.

But thenβ€”

His fingers twitched.

I stood up immediately and stepped closer to the glass.

"That’s it, Kai," I muttered under my breath. "Move. Wake up."

I waited.

Minutes passed.

Then more.

Even after thirty minutes of standing thereβ€”watching, hopingβ€”nothing followed.

Francis returned, exhaling deeply.

"She woke up. Doctors are running tests. Probably fatigueβ€”she hasn’t been sleeping well."

"You need a break too," I told him.

"I’ll just check on him first." He sat down.

"Alright. I’ll go check on Sophia."

He told me where she was.

I knocked, then entered.

Doctor White and another physician were already inside.

"How is she?" I asked, stepping beside Sophia’s bed.

The doctor glanced at herβ€”then at me.

"I’m pregnant," Sophia said, closing her eyes again. "You better wake Kai up and tell him."

A quiet chuckle left my lips.

"Congratulations." I crossed my arms. "Now stop being stubborn. Sleep. Eat. Rest."

"Fine," she muttered weakly.

I helped her into a wheelchair and guided her back to her room. She entered the code and moved straight to the bed, climbing in slowly.

"How about food?" I asked.

"I’ll sleep."

I nodded.

Then I scanned the roomβ€”every corner, every possible blind spot. Just to make sure she was safe.

"So... where does Francis sleep?" I asked.

She pointed to the couch, where a pillow and blanket were already laid out.

I didn’t want to assume anything.

Kai trusted Francis.

And Sophia... she wouldn’t betray him.

I turned and left, making sure the door was locked behind me.

Back at the ICU, Francis was already standing near the glass.

"I saw his fingers move," he muttered.

I nodded.

"I saw it too. Doctors might call it reflexβ€”but it’s something. A response."

I looked him straight in the eye.

"You should rest. And stay with Sophia."

He hesitated.

"She needs double protection."

He understood.

With a nod, he left.

I stayed.

Watching Kai.

Even with nurses and doctors monitoring him around the clockβ€”

I didn’t trust anyone with him but myself.

"Bro..." I murmured quietly. "You need to wake up soon."

I stared at him, imagining itβ€”

The moment he finds out.

His wife. Pregnant.

A slow breath left me as I shook my head faintly.

He’d lose his mind.

Too excited. Too loud. Too alive.

He’d be over the moonβ€”grinning like an idiot, probably pulling Sophia into his arms without caring who was watching. Acting like the world finally gave him something good after everything he’s done.

My grip tightened against the railing.

"You don’t get to miss that," I muttered under my breath.

Not him.

Not this.

Not when, for once, something pure was waiting for him on the other side of all this blood and chaos.

I leaned closer to the glass, my voice dropping lowerβ€”dangerously firm.

"Wake up, Kai."

–Livana–

As soon as Lore entered, everything began to unfold.

I watched through the footage as he seamlessly infiltrated each of their PCs without raising a single suspicion. There goes my little genius.

It took hours.

Hours of careful navigation, quiet observation, and calculated intrusionβ€”until he finally obtained what he needed, all under the guise of a harmless service desk support.

He moved through the office like he belonged thereβ€”grabbing drinks from the fridge, always asking first if they were free. They laughed at him. He played the fool when necessary, masking brilliance beneath charm.

By the time he left, his bag was filled with drinks. He waved at them casually and walked out as if he had done nothing extraordinary.

I waited for him in the penthouse.

He arrived after making several detours, driving an old, forgettable car. In his hands were shopping bags. One of them had cartoon characters printed on itβ€”likely for the children.

He dropped his bag beside the sofa and slouched into it.

"I made you dinner," I told him.

"Thank you, sis." He pulled out his laptop as I slid a cup of tea toward him. "What’s this?" he asked.

"Chamomile." I took a slow sip. "Oh, by the way... tell me about Alyssa. Did you two cross the line?"

"We did make out," he chuckled. "That girl is really horny."

"She gets what she wants," I said with a faint smileβ€”just like his brother, who takes what he desires in his own way.

"Certainly," he laughed. Then, as if remembering something, he added, "By the way..." He picked up the teacup. "I checked on the facility on my way here. Sophia fainted..."

My attention sharpened.

"Oh... she might already be pregnant."

He snapped his fingers and pointed at me.

"Wanna bet the gender?" he grinned.

"Fine. One million," I smirked. "I’ll transfer it."

"It’s a boy," he declared.

"It’s a girl," I countered, raising a brow. It didn’t matter who won.

He typed quickly on his laptop before turning it toward me.

"Here’s what I got." He gestured toward the screen as if presenting a masterpiece.

The data revealed a clear bridgeβ€”linking directly to whichever device Tyrona was using.

All I needed now... was to connect.

And erase it.

I leaned back slightly, considering.

"What do you think about this?" I asked.

"I say we invite Tyrona," he chuckled. "Her son is happiest when he’s with Sky and the twins. That gives us an opening."

"Hmm... classic burglary," I murmured. "Let’s do it. Go eat your dinner so you can rest."

He stood and began pulling items from his bag.

"Where did the sodas go?" I asked.

"Oh, I gave them to the front desk," he said casually.

I nodded.

"Yes. You can’t have sugary drinks. Your girlfriend would hate it if your face breaks out."

He nodded in agreement.

"Yeah, she’s obsessed with my face. Won’t even kiss me unless I brush my teeth."

"Oh? Good to hear," I grinned, returning my attention to his work.

"So... is it a fairytale wedding?" I asked.

"Hmm... more like an enchanted one. A forest theme would be perfect. But I think she already has an entire album planned."

"I see." I nodded. "But with the recent attacks on our Nest, I’ll have to take you abroad most of the time."

"That’s fine with me," he said casually as he lifted the stainless dome from his plate. "Wow..." He stared at the steak in awe. "I can’t get my girl pregnant. Not yet."

I was mildly surprised by his awareness.

"This is good," he added.

I nodded, though I hadn’t touched my own meal. My appetite had long since faded.

I leaned back and called home.

A moment later, Alyssa answered.

Sky’s tear-streaked face filled the screen.

He stopped crying the moment he saw meβ€”though tears still clung to his cheeks, along with a small mess of snot.

"Mama?" he asked softly.

Thenβ€”

"Mama!" he cried dramatically.

"Hello, baby."

"He’s been crying every night," Alyssa said gently.

"Baby!" Lore called from behind me.

"Hey, Lore!" Alyssa waved before Sky grabbed the phone.

"Mama... home, peessee. Home, okay?" he pleaded.

"Hmm... I’ll be home soon, baby. Why don’t you start counting nights? Or stars?" I said softly.

His lips trembled as he looked up at Alyssa.

"Tita..." he whimpered.

Alyssa poutedβ€”and then, just as dramatically, began crying with him.

I couldn’t help but giggle as the two of them hugged each other.

"Both of you are dramatic," I murmured fondly.

"I love you, babe. I’ll call you later," Lore said before rushing back to his seat.

I smiled, watching my sonβ€”so expressive, so much like his father.

Then I added Damon to the call.

He answered almost immediately.

"Hey, loveβ€”"

"Dada?" Sky interrupted. "Dada, why you here?" He frowned. "Why you here, Dada?"

"Oh... hey, Sky. You’re there too," Damon said flatly. "Hang up. Let me talk to Mama."

"No!" Sky protested loudly.

"Love, let’s talk alone, okay?" Damon tried again.

"Oh, come on. Sky’s crying. Stop being childish and talk to your son," I said calmly.

Behind Sky, Alyssa was already snickering.

"Dada... baddie," Sky declared.

I laughed softly.

"Why do you think that?" I asked.

"I wav you," he giggled, wiping his tears. "We play!"

He began babbling about his dayβ€”his words tumbling over each other.

Damon listened patiently on the other end.

And I simply watched.

There is something disarming about a child’s loveβ€”raw, unfiltered, and impossibly warm.

Even in the midst of strategy, danger, and calculated moves...

thisβ€”this softnessβ€”remains untouched.
