Chapter 96: Chapter 93: In Heat

Though his mind was full of doubt, the man’s feet moved on their own, carrying him toward the female.

Ling Hong bent his long legs and squatted in front of her. An Jin reached a small hand out from her warm nest of blankets and touched his wolf ears. "So cold..."

She instantly snatched her hand back, a slight frown on her face. "You’re too cold. It’s been freezing lately, so don’t go out. Just stay home and rest properly."

"Should I go make you something to eat?" Ling Hong readily agreed, his gaze turning fervent as he looked at her.

Wolf Beasts were known for being loyal and obedient. If An Jin told him not to go out, then he wouldn’t go out.

But being kept indoors only made Ling Hong more of a homebody. He poured his boundless energy into concocting all sorts of meals for An Jin every day.

An Jin felt more and more that she was being fattened up. She hadn’t grown any taller, but she was on the verge of getting love handles around her stomach.

’I’ll have to go on a diet once the cold season is over.’

The days passed one by one in quiet domesticity. By her calculations, the cold season would be over in about half a month.

An Jin had been craving hot pot for a couple of days to celebrate the coming end of winter. Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through her lower abdomen.

It was faint, but it felt like something was tugging at her nerves.

After the first pang, a second one followed quickly, its intensity noticeably greater.

’Strange?’

’Did I eat something that upset my stomach?’

’That shouldn’t be it. I’ve only had cooked food and hot water, and Ling Hong always washes the ingredients he uses. I also haven’t noticed any food pairing issues that could cause poisoning.’

The cramping pain in her lower abdomen felt both strange and familiar.

Slowly... she felt a warm trickle...

’Oh, shit.’

An Jin clutched her stomach, curling up amidst the beast hides. As the sharp pain continued, it dawned on her. ’Is this my fucking... period?!’

’No, to be more precise, in this Beast World there’s a universally known, more "scientific" term for it—going into heat.’

’Did my body start developing again because I’ve been eating so well? Or did the warmth of the cellar speed up ovulation?’

Her first period came with a startling vengeance. An Jin’s face was ashen, and she bit her colorless lips, not daring to move a muscle.

She was afraid one wrong move would cause a flood.

Slowly, she moved stiffly, adjusting her position and using the wall to haul herself up. She needed to rummage through the nearby wooden chest for some usable beast hides.

She had assumed her health was too poor and that she’d never get her period in this life, so An Jin had made no preparations whatsoever.

These crudely tanned hides were probably teeming with bacteria and weren’t suitable for making sanitary pads, but in a crisis like this, she couldn’t afford to be picky.

After a great deal of effort, she managed to pull a new, clean hide from the chest, only to see it was a thick, furry pelt meant for keeping warm.

She painfully fumbled through a few more hides but couldn’t find a single thin, soft one that could be used as a liner.

Just then, she happened to glance back and saw an alarming pool of blood where she had just been sitting.

’Shit!’ She quickly felt behind her and realized a large patch of her clothes was already soaked.

Beastmen had sensitive noses. If even she could smell the thick scent of blood, there was no way the other three in the cabin couldn’t.

As a Wolf Beast, Ling Hong was the first to notice something was wrong. He immediately bounded over, threw open the door, and entered the room.

The sudden, overwhelming scent of blood in the room was laced with something else—an aroma that drove males into a frenzy. It instantly flooded his senses, aggressively triggering a primal instinct in male Beastmen.

"An Jin, you’re... in heat?!"

Ling Hong’s usually handsome and aloof face was now radiant with ecstasy. The corners of his lips curled up uncontrollably, and his emerald pupils narrowed into bestial slits.

A female going into heat was always a major event in the household.

An Jin kept her head down, trying to deal with the bloodstains. She was so mortified she didn’t dare look up to see the change in him.

"Quick, help me find some hides! I’m bleeding so much, I can’t get up right now," she urged, her voice laced with panic.

"Okay, just a second!" The man took a deep breath, trying to suppress his wild joy.

He rummaged through the cabin for what felt like an eternity before finally finding a thin, soft hide tucked away at the very bottom of a wooden chest.

Recalling some tricks passed down in the tribe, Ling Hong quickly trimmed the hide and brought it inside. He knelt on one knee before her, holding the hide up to her waist to measure it. It was a perfect fit.

He reached out to pull off the short hide skirt around An Jin’s waist, but she managed to dodge him just in time.

"What’s wrong?" Ling Hong frowned, confused.

An Jin’s eyes flew wide as she stared at him. Realizing he was simply trying to help her with her "pad," and remembering that Beastmen had no concept of modesty, she stammered, "This... I can... I can do it myself. You don’t have to trouble yourself..."

Ling Hong was not happy to hear that. For once, he showed a rare stubborn streak. "In the tribe, it’s always the male’s duty to care for the female during this time. You don’t have to move. Just lie there and be good. As a male, I’ve been taught what to do."

An Jin was mortified. No matter how he tried to explain, she insisted on shooing him out of the room.

"AWOOO!"

Ling Hong plopped down by the door, wagging his tail, refusing to leave.

She couldn’t be bothered with him anymore. Lying on the fresh, clean hides she’d laid down, she began to focus on the task at hand.

Because she didn’t like going commando like the Beastmen, she had made herself a pair of underwear to wear beneath her hide skirt long ago. It was already heavily stained with blood, so she quickly grabbed a fresh pair to change into.

She also padded it with some pieces of hide.

Then, An Jin picked up a needle and thread and began to hurriedly sew more underwear and makeshift pads to cope with this sudden first period.

A commotion also erupted in the adjacent cabin.

After Ling Hong was kicked out, Xi also caught the scent pervading the air. His fish tail began to thrash wildly in its water tub.

For some reason, the moment he smelled it, he felt a frenzied energy threatening to erupt from within him, something he had never experienced before...

’Ah Jin is in heat!’

Xi quickly realized what was happening. His stunningly clear, azure eyes filled with ecstasy, flashing with an unparalleled, shimmering light.

His eyes were alarmingly bright as he stared intently at the female’s room, filled with a deep sense of anticipation.

At the same time, the python who had been shut in his room for his long slumber also began to stir.

"HISS~"

The snake’s head, which had been coiled atop a pile of meat, lifted. The thin film covering its pupils slowly peeled back as it looked toward the female’s cabin in pleasant surprise.

Its bright red, forked tongue flicked out, trembling violently as it tasted the scent molecules in the air.

’So fragrant...’

’I want her so badly...’

Mi Yin’s upper body shifted into human form. The man’s skin was exquisitely pale, and his inky black hair, smooth as satin, cascaded over his elegant shoulders and neck.

His features were bewitchingly handsome. A pair of magnificent, blood-red eyes stared fixedly at the female’s cabin, shining with obsession and infatuation.

All traces of his previous languor vanished as Mi Yin quickly slithered toward her room...

An Jin was racking her brains, furiously sewing underwear for herself.

Suddenly, with a loud BANG, someone burst through the door.

Her hand shook, causing her to drop her needle and thread as she looked up in shock.

"Mi Yin?"

An Jin craned her neck, trying to see behind him. There was no sign of Ling Hong. ’He must have been sent flying,’ she figured.

’Wait, that’s not the point. Isn’t Mi Yin supposed to be sound asleep in hibernation right now?’ 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

’How did he wake up?!’

’And come rushing over in such a panic.’

A chill ran down An Jin’s spine. A bad feeling washed over her, and she couldn’t help but retreat into the corner, pressing her back against the cold wall and shrinking into herself.
