Chapter 83: Chapter 80: I Want to Live with You

The man’s intentions were blatantly obvious. An Jin gave him an awkward smile, then lowered her head, silently straightening the wrinkles on her animal hide skirt. She muttered under her breath, "I haven’t come of age yet. It’s not possible right now... maybe later..."

"Someone your age should have gone into heat already." Mi Yin flicked his tongue, his voice tinged with a hint of regret, then his gaze shifted to her lower body.

An Jin, "..."

’I really want to twist his head around.’ Although she knew his gaze wasn’t lustful, just a male’s curiosity about a female.

But Mi Yin had a point. Even the weakest females should have gone into heat by her age.

Going into heat was the equivalent of getting one’s period, which, in the eyes of Beastmen, meant one could mate and reproduce.

Because the original owner of this body had been a wanderer with her parents since she was young and often went hungry, she had been frail and underdeveloped since childhood, leaving her with a host of chronic ailments.

Her period was late to arrive, and the Witch Doctor had even diagnosed her as being unable to have children.

She was small and slender, looking no older than thirteen or fourteen, but she was actually fifteen. Many females in the Beast World were already mothers to a whole litter of children at this age.

But for the current An Jin, this was actually a good thing. She had no desire to mate and have children.

Although An Jin appeared gentle and harmless on the outside, making her seem approachable, her personality was actually quite cold. She found it difficult to develop feelings for others. Her decision to accept Mi Yin was only because she couldn’t get rid of him and couldn’t bear to abandon him. That was why she didn’t reject his affectionate advances.

To An Jin, this was just fulfilling her duties as a partner, but it didn’t mean she wanted to have offspring with him.

Unfortunately, "platonic love" wasn’t in the Beastmen’s dictionary. An Jin sighed.

’This whole ’going into heat’ thing... it’s best to put it off for as long as possible.’

’I hope this body really is weak and my period never comes in this lifetime,’ An Jin prayed silently.

...

Since they were going to build a tribe, they had to do it right from the very beginning. An Jin’s requirements for the houses went far beyond a simple one-room, one-bed dwelling meant only for living.

She spent nearly three days designing a type of wooden house that was economical, simple, beautiful, and practical.

The overall construction of the wooden houses used a simple mortise and tenon structure, a condensed form of ancient wisdom.

The exterior was a two-story structure. The upper floor was for storing grain, and the lower floor was for living. Beside the house was a small, attached plot of land where they could raise chickens and grow vegetables.

The roof was reinforced and sloped like a triangle. Overhangs extended from both sides, which could channel rainwater away, or allow them to collect it for use by placing a wooden basin underneath.

In the following days, the Beastmen dried the lumber and cut the rough pieces of wood, and then the construction phase began in full swing.

Even the females, who were usually fond of eating and averse to work, were infected by this enthusiasm and joined in on tasks they were capable of.

Gathering materials, designing, laying foundations—the construction and reinforcement of the wooden houses took only seven days to complete.

Once again, the Beastmen showed An Jin what a highly efficient workforce was capable of.

On a stretch of open land, ten two-story wooden houses had sprung up in just a few days. Each had a footprint of seventy to eighty square meters, and with two floors combined, the total space was well over a hundred square meters.

The interior space was larger than the Beastmen could have ever imagined! The environment was clean and pleasant.

The windows were also very large, providing excellent lighting.

Moreover, the window panes were made from the wings of a giant insect that An Jin had acquired through trade in the tribe. They were not only transparent but also waterproof!

Six of the houses were assigned to the six females and their partners, while the remaining four slightly larger wooden houses were given to the single male Beastmen to serve as a communal dormitory.

"There’s still a lot of lumber left. Let’s make a few dozen beds and some wooden barrels!" An Jin gathered the motivated Beastmen.

"What’s a bed? What does it look like? How do you make it?" The Beastmen scratched their heads and asked the three essential questions. They knew what wooden barrels were but had never heard the word "bed."

An Jin explained patiently, "It’s a sleeping place made of wooden planks. It’s raised off the ground with planks to prevent little crawly things from climbing onto your body while you sleep."

"And we can leave the space under the bed empty, so it can be used to store animal hides, dry rations, firewood, and so on. It will also help save space in the house."

An Jin had long since established her authority in the hearts of the Beastmen. Although they were used to sleeping directly on the ground on animal hides and hay, they were still intrigued by the idea of a bed and, full of energy, they built several dozen large wooden beds according to the sketches An Jin provided.

Given the Beastmen’s large and heavy builds, the wooden planks were made especially thick. The beds had a support post every half meter, and they were only officially put into use after the strongest Bear Beast in the group tested them to ensure they wouldn’t collapse.

"Why did we dig such a big hole under our house?" After moving into their homes, the Beastmen discovered a small, round stone cover cut into the floor.

Opening the small stone cover revealed a hollowed-out foundation, which had then been poured over with a mixture of sand and that special cement An Jin had traded for in the tribe.

"You’ll find out when the cold season comes."

An Jin spoke cryptically, giving the confused Beastmen a gentle smile. "Remember to use the remaining time to stock up on enough dry firewood. The demand for wood might be greater this cold season, but I guarantee you’ll be warm!"

To be honest, if there had been enough time, An Jin’s comfort-seeking, retirement-ready personality would have wanted to pick some dried flowers and herbs to make small sachets of incense to hang in the wooden houses.

"I want to live with you!"

Ling Hong came up to her. His normally perked-up wolf ears drooped dejectedly amidst his silvery-white hair. His cool voice was faint and tinged with awkwardness. "I... I’m used to being with you. I don’t want to be with the other Beastmen. It’s too noisy."

Ling Hong had a very solitary personality. Despite being a Wolf Beast, he didn’t like to live with others. Back in the Luoten Tribe, he had found a secluded spot and built his own den.

An Jin was the only one he had ever lived with without pushing away. Now that Ling Hong saw a Snake Beast by her side, a sense of vigilance and crisis arose in his heart, making him even more reluctant to leave her.

"Alright, you can live with me then." An Jin didn’t think too much of it. Her house had plenty of space, enough for several more people.

Ling Hong had helped her out before; now it was her turn to repay the favor.

Mi Yin, however, was not pleased. He shot a cold glance at the Wolf Beast who was trying to horn in, his forked tongue flicking with a dangerous, expelling intent.

"HISS~"

’Get lost if you don’t want to die.’

Ling Hong showed no weakness, calmly ignoring the Snake Beast’s warning gaze. His eyes were fixed intently on An Jin.

In such domestic matters, the female always had the final say. Even though Mi Yin was a ferocious and domineering Wandering Beast, he had no right to speak at this moment.

Of course, finding an opportunity to get rid of this eyesore of a Wolf Beast later on, somewhere An Jin couldn’t see, was not something the female could control.

...

The Wandering Beasts had lived in this area since they were young and knew all the natural resources needed for survival like the back of their hands.

Taking advantage of the last few days before the rainy season arrived, they led the other Beastmen to gather all the remaining supplies.

With ample supplies stored in their houses, the tribe began to peacefully await the arrival of the long rainy season.

During this time, An Jin also had the Beastmen help her find a few more Water Giant Worms and Wild Grass Birds, and she had them build three thatched sheds for raising them.

With everything ready, in the last day or two, An Jin, worried that the crops would be washed away by floods, took a wooden shovel to the farmland, planning to dig a few small channels for drainage.

The sound of light footsteps came from behind her.

"Ah Jin~"
