Favorite of the Beast-world: I Got Rich Through Farming-Chapter 67 - 66: Bringing Food
For the past few days, a thick, white fog had blanketed the city every morning. The air was so heavy with moisture that a single breath could choke you, leaving your lungs burning as you coughed.
It was a sign that the rainy season was approaching.
Ling Hong rose first thing in the morning and hurried to the Witch Doctor Castle. ’These furless days are unbearable.’
Around noon, when the scorching sun had burned away most of the fog, An Jin slung a basket over her back and headed to the city’s central market.
Beastmen from all corners of the world gathered there, along with all sorts of rare materials.
A single glance revealed a dense sea of people, at least a thousand strong.
The crowded, bluestone-paved streets teemed with people. Hearty shouts from vendors echoed from all sides, and the dazzling array of goods was almost too much to take in.
’This is a spectacle you’d never see in an ordinary tribe!’
’So this is what a city is like?’
’If I had a city like this,’ An Jin wondered, ’could I make it even more prosperous than Beast Gathering City?’
Sprinkled among the tall, brawny Beastmen were a few with slender, petite frames. Sporting goat horns or rabbit ears, they were the much rarer herbivorous Beastmen.
They sold various plant roots, seedlings, and seeds.
But most Beastmen had no taste for plants, so their stalls were deserted, with hardly a customer in sight.
An Jin walked over and picked up a few small seedlings. Looking up, she asked, "How much for these seeds and seedlings?"
She felt a jolt of excitement. ’This large tuber looks just like a sweet potato, and this little seedling with the reddish root looks exactly like a corn sprout! They’re delicious, nutritious, and perfect for large-scale farming.’
Having finally attracted a customer, the old Mountain Goat Beast’s face flushed with excitement.
His tribe had plenty of tubers and seedlings, but no one wanted them, even at a low price. In the end, An Jin bought the entire lot for a single Crystal Core.
She placed the seedlings and seeds into the soil of her pocket dimension.
She set the parameters to see if they would grow as she expected.
The last batch of wheat seeds had a 90% germination rate. After several generations of selective breeding, the yield had already reached 700 pounds per mu. As soon as she got back to the tribe, she could start clearing land to plant them.
After looking around some more, An Jin bought seedlings for a few other common crops, including a large bag of grains that looked a lot like rice. She planted everything in her pocket dimension to see what the harvest would look like in a few days.
When she returned to their stone courtyard that evening, Ling Hong still wasn’t back. An Jin lit the stove and, after a flurry of activity, prepared a stone bowl of roasted meat to take to the Witch Doctor Castle so he would have something to eat.
When she arrived at the Stone Castle, she understood why he hadn’t come back. His body was slathered in a pale, bluish-green medicinal paste, and Chi Li had him wrapped up in special white cloths like a mummy.
She set the stone bowl on the table and stepped forward, curiously prodding his bandages. "Is this part of the treatment?"
The aroma of roasted meat filled the air.
The moment she walked in with the roasted meat, the two carnivores in the room—Chi Li and Ling Hong—snapped their heads in her direction in perfect unison.
Suddenly, they were hungry.
"His burns are severe, so he needs to be bandaged to prevent infection," Chi Li explained. "Remember, he has to come here every day for a new dressing until he’s healed."
Chi Li’s eyes flickered toward the roasted meat, and the large, fluffy fox tail behind him gave a slight curl.
An Jin said brightly, "I bet you two haven’t eaten all day. I made plenty of roasted meat, so if you don’t mind, you can share it. It should be enough to take the edge off your hunger."
"Okay." A wave of warmth filled Ling Hong’s chest. ’I can’t believe she came all this way just to bring me food.’
Chi Li froze for a second, a complex emotion in his eyes. Ultimately, the tantalizing aroma of the roasted meat was too much to resist. The carnivore’s instinct won out over his inner reservations.
