Favorite of the Beast-world: I Got Rich Through Farming-Chapter 62: Lord System Activated
Wandering Beasts were a tremendous threat to any city or tribe. Unmated ones in heat were an absolute catastrophe.
The Beastman Warriors stared intently at the approaching Snake Beast. The terrifying aura that naturally emanated from a Sixth Rank Wandering Beast made their legs weak.
When they saw the Snake Beast holding the slender female, the Beastmen’s fear turned to fury. Their fur bristled like angry hedgehogs.
"ROAR—"
A chorus of bestial growls rose and fell, meant to drive the Wandering Beast away.
From the looks of it, letting Mi Yin into the city was out of the question. If he took a single step closer, the enraged Beastmen would swarm him.
Whether they could actually win was another matter entirely.
As a Wandering Beast who had grown up wild in the Primitive Jungle, Mi Yin had no love for the communal life of cities or tribes. It was far too restrictive for his nomadic nature.
An Jin was simply worried that his wounds might reopen in the harsh wilderness. She would much rather he recuperate in the safety of a city for a while.
’If Mi Yin could adapt to communal life, then once I come of age, I won’t have to worry about the risk of him snatching me away again.’
The two were forced to retreat to the outskirts of the city. An Jin leaned against a tree, idly kicking at a stone. She sighed, "Is there really no other way?"
The long, cool fingers resting on her hair paused.
’He has a way?!’
Convinced he did, An Jin looked up expectantly at the silent Mi Yin. But he just gave a light, noncommittal chuckle. The cool, smooth pad of his finger landed on her cheek, caressing it again and again.
He seemed to be hesitating over something.
After a long moment, he finally spoke, his deep voice betraying no emotion. "Wandering Beasts are forbidden from entering the city because they snatch females. If you tell them you’re my mate, they might not stop us..."
After a brief hesitation, An Jin turned and ran toward the city, only to be pulled back by the wrist.
His grip was astonishingly strong.
She shot him a curious glance. Mi Yin’s eyes were downcast, the curved shadows of his lashes concealing his turbulent emotions, yet faintly revealing a trace of sorrow and unease.
A moment later, he let her go.
As he watched the female’s figure recede until she was just a blurry dot, the helplessness and apprehension Mi Yin had tried so hard to hide were laid bare.
In his ancestral memories, many Snake Beasts had been tricked and killed by their mates.
The females, resentful of being abducted, would lure the Snake Beasts into a city by promising them a life together, only to secretly conspire with powerful Beastmen to ambush and kill the unsuspecting Wandering Beast...
’Would Jin’er... abandon me like that, too?’
When he saw the female running back alone, panting, with no suspicious Beastmen following her, Mi Yin’s red eyes widened. His heart blazed, and an indescribable emotion surged through him.
Before An Jin could even stop to put her hands on her hips and catch her breath, the typically ruthless and cold-blooded Snake Beast seemed to lose control again. He swept her into his arms, holding her fiercely as he buried his face in her neck and breathed in deeply. "Jin’er, I’m so happy..."
’She didn’t abandon me.’
’The thing I was afraid of didn’t happen.’
An Jin, "...??" Unable to fathom why Mi Yin was suddenly so emotional, she peeled his long arms off her. Looking at the closed city gates, she sighed with regret. "It’s no good. You’re a Sixth Rank Wandering Beast; they won’t let you in."
A Sixth Rank Beastman’s power was on par with a City Lord’s. If one entered the city, it would cause immense panic among the other Beastmen and throw the city into chaos.
Mi Yin didn’t care. He had seen proof of An Jin’s feelings for him; whether he could enter the city was completely unimportant now.
He took the female’s hand and walked her to a spot near the city gate before stopping. He let go, his eyes full of longing as he watched her pass through the entrance.
"I’ll wait for you outside the city. I won’t leave."
"Okay."
She nodded.
The moment she entered the city, several Beastmen from the Luoten Tribe spotted her. They rubbed their eyes, then rushed over in disbelief.
When they confirmed that the slender, familiar figure was truly An Jin, who had been missing for days, their eyes reddened as they fought back tears. "Oh my god, you’re not dead!"
An Jin, "...??" 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
’What are they talking about? I don’t understand.’
The group scratched their heads awkwardly and quickly explained that the massive fire had spread through half the forest. Many of their Beastmen had been burned, and a few had even been left crippled.
The other tribes hadn’t fared any better.
The fire had killed several Beastmen. They had searched everywhere for An Jin’s body, but since they couldn’t find her, they assumed she had also...
Wiping away their tears, they said happily, "It’s so good to see you’re alright! We have to tell Lord Ling Hong and the others right away."
"You know so many amazing things, and you came back safely from that huge fire... Maybe you really are the legendary female favored by the Beast God!"

’A string of system notifications suddenly rang out in her mind, a chaotic mess. The Lord System? Doesn’t seem very useful to me right now.’
An Jin rubbed her throbbing brow and looked past them. "Where is everyone else? Where’s Ling Hong?"
The Beastmen’s expressions turned to grief and anger. The fire had injured many from the tribe; most of them, including Ling Hong, were at the Witch Doctor Castle.
"We’ll take you there!"
...
「At the crack of dawn.」
Chi Li was once again trapped in the nightmare from his childhood. He curled up on his bed, eyes squeezed shut, cold sweat drenching the bedding. Darkness, fear, rage, and hatred enveloped him, layer by layer.
Overwhelming hatred filled his chest and coursed through his veins. His sharp fingernails dug into the bedding, clenching and tearing at the fabric...
He awoke with a jolt, his entire body already soaked in sweat.
Chi Li buried his head between his knees, as if he could still feel that sickening touch crawling all over him, violating every last shred of his pride, inch by inch.
In the dream, he was just a cub of seven or eight.
His hands were bound inside a pitch-black wooden hut.
The frantic sounds of a male and a female came from the next room, filling him with a terror he had never known.
The door opened. An ugly, revolting old female stood before him, giving him a sinister smile.
Tears streamed down his face, blurring his vision...
"SOB... Y-you... don’t touch me..."
"..."
Countless scars still marred Chi Li’s pale, jade-like skin. He glanced down at them, a faint frown creasing his long, fiery-red brows, his expression unreadable.
Even in the hot, humid weather of the warm season, he stubbornly wore a long robe of tanned hide that barely concealed the ghastly scars on his body.
