Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Making the First Skincare Product

SPLASH. Ripples spread across the water’s surface, expanding outward in circles before gradually disappearing.

An Jin plunged headfirst into the water. Her body sank toward the bottom, and as she opened her mouth, a stream of bubbles escaped her lips.

She slowly opened her eyes in the icy water, feeling no discomfort at all. She was like a fish in water, as comfortable as if she were on dry land.

Her body quickly adapted to the sensation of being submerged.

’The effects of the Shark Pearl were truly miraculous. It could allow an ordinary person to swim freely in the water, just like a Merfolk.’

An Jin leaned forward and swept her arms, using her weight to propel herself powerfully downward. The displaced water pushed her forward at a rapid pace.

A completely red plant was sunk deep in the silt at the bottom of the river. Its thick leaves, divided into five lobes, hung from the main stem.

An Jin grabbed four or five of the plants with one hand, placed them in her Beast Skin Bag, and tied it shut.

’Mission complete.’ Just as she was about to break the surface, she suddenly saw a familiar gray wolf appear on the nearby bank. It was Manduo, who had been missing for over half a month.

An Jin froze at the bottom of the river, not daring to even exhale.

The gray wolf seemed to sense something. It suddenly lowered its massive head, its eyes flashing fiercely. Its glossy black nose twitched frantically as it sniffed aggressively at the grass on the riverbank where An Jin had been. It tracked her scent step by step, then suddenly let out a low growl and lunged in her direction.

In the nick of time, An Jin’s breath caught, and she instantly vanished into her space.

The female’s scent vanished. The gray wolf transformed into his human form and looked around. Scratching his head, he confirmed no one was there before returning to the tribe.

At the tribe’s main house, a golden lion was lying on the grass by the entrance, feigning sleep.

Not far away, the gray wolf’s footsteps drew closer. He stared intently at the lion before him, a flash of malice and hatred crossing his eyes.

But in just an instant, Manduo adopted a completely different demeanor.

Hearing the footsteps, the lion slowly opened its eyes. Seeing that it was Manduo, who had been gone for many days, the Clan Leader was somewhat in disbelief.

"You’re back?"

The Clan Leader spoke, his Golden Eyes narrowing. He gave Manduo’s left leg a surprised look. "It’s healed?"

Manduo nodded. "It was just a minor injury. I found some herbs and rested in a cave for a few days, and it got better." He smiled.

The Clan Leader nodded and smiled, though his thoughts grew grim.

’A minor injury? As far as I know, it was a broken bone. Even the tribe’s Witch Doctor couldn’t heal it...’

The Clan Leader was inwardly shocked, but a calculating man like him would never let his emotions show so easily. He just smiled faintly. "It’s good that you’re back. Let go of your past grievances. For now, you are not to touch that female or Ling Hong."

The Clan Leader’s expression changed in a flash. He stood up, shifted into his human form, and walked over to pat Manduo’s shoulder reassuringly. "Perhaps my words were a bit harsh before," he said, "but I wanted you to understand that the female has made many contributions to the tribe recently. She has even greater uses, so we must keep her around for now. Understand?"

Manduo lowered his head and said respectfully, "Yes."

The Clan Leader smiled, gratified and with deep meaning. "It’s good that you know. The position of Clan Leader will inevitably be passed to you one day. You must remain calm and not panic when things happen. This is the first lesson I have to teach you."

Meanwhile, after entering her space, An Jin opened Mirror Mirror’s main interface.

In the top-left corner of the main interface—Gold Coins: +15.

And in the center of the screen was a scrollable item frame, like a shop interface in a video game.

An Jin had recently earned a total of 20 Gold Coins from tasks. Just yesterday, she had spent 5 of them to buy the [Beginner’s Facial Cleanser * Recipe].

The red plant she had just scavenged from the river was one of the ingredients for that recipe.

That’s right.

An Jin wanted to use natural ingredients to create a simple version of a skincare product. It would be the first skincare product in this world, made specifically for the females of the city. If she succeeded, it would significantly increase her bargaining power for trade with Beast Gathering City.
