Chapter 374: Chapter 249: Natural-Born Top Hunters and Spies

After listening to the Beastmen’s report on recent city construction in the council hall, An Jin organized the statistical ledgers. Then, she packed up and hurried to the livestock pastures.

Many new lambs and calves had been born this year.

The once-spacious pens were now starting to feel a little crowded.

"Next, double the size of the pens," An Jin ordered. "Report any needed materials or manpower to the supply depot."

The Beastman nodded hurriedly, accepted the order, and left.

"Stop playing in the water and come back here." Noticing the three cubs who had been circling her legs were gone, An Jin looked up to find them splashing around in the river. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

The river looked shallow, but it grew deeper the further in one went. Worried about an accident, An Jin quickly called them back.

"Awoo! Awoo!"

Before they could run over, a huge sound erupted from the riverbank, and a dripping, black and red snake’s head emerged.

The three little ones froze on the spot, their fur bristling slightly. They dazedly pawed at their own fur, which had been splashed wet.

"Mi Yin!"

HISS~ The python flicked its forked tongue and looked toward the slender figure running to the riverbank. A hint of a smile and gentleness appeared in its once-cold red eyes.

She trotted to the riverbank in a huff. Mi Yin immediately transformed into his human form, reached out to pull her into his arms, and pinched her cheek. "I already made lunch, but you weren’t back yet. I was worried, so I followed your scent to find you."

"The pastures have so many new animals. I was counting them all, and it took a while," she explained with a bright smile.

He hummed in acknowledgment, his gaze falling on the herds of cattle and sheep in the distance. A hint of satisfaction showed in his eyes. ’The feeling of having food penned up so close by is really nice.’

Just as Mi Yin scooped her up by the waist and was about to leave, An Jin stopped him. "Wait." Placing her hands on his arms, she called out into the distance, "Stop playing, it’s time to come home and eat! Cubs, come back quickly!"

"Awoo! Awoo!"

They were happily herding sheep.

The hunting instinct in their blood, mixed with some kind of herding instinct, made it impossible for them to control their little paws. Forgetting all about food, they churned their short legs and began chasing after the panicked flock of sheep.

"Don’t worry about them," Mi Yin said. "They’ll come home to eat on their own when they get hungry."

Seeing how much fun the little cubs were having, An Jin nodded. She turned and called out into the distance again, "Come home when you’re done playing! Don’t be too late, or I’ll have your father come get you himself!"

"AWOO!"

_Okay, Mama!_

Before long, the little cubs came running back one after another. They were probably hungry, as they slipped into the kitchen as soon as they got home and started rummaging for leftovers.

After they had eaten until they were about half-full.

Ling Hong happened to be about to lead a team out on patrol to hunt.

"Awoooo~" _We want to go too!_

They weren’t little cubs anymore; they wanted to go out hunting with their father.

"No," the Silver Wolf refused bluntly, all while sharpening his claws on a rock.

The cubs started to wail, rolling on the ground and trying to wheedle him.

"You’re too small. Your teeth haven’t even all grown in yet. If you went into the forest, you’d just get your necks snapped by the beasts in there," Ling Hong said mercilessly.

"Awoo..."

They dejectedly slunk back into the house and flopped listlessly onto the floor.

Their coddled life at home clashed fiercely with the innate hunting genes and wildness in their blood. As they grew day by day, so did their desire to venture into the Primitive Jungle and fight and hunt alongside their father.

An Jin saw this through the window, and a plan began to form in her mind.

Half a month passed. The continent had fully entered its hot season. The air was muggy and thick, and hot winds blew without cease. The primitive, lush jungle stretched out like a boundless green ocean.

An Jin waved to the three little ones, who were flopped at the main gate, sunbathing. "Stop sleeping. Come with Mama, I’m taking you somewhere fun."

"Awoo?" The three big white fluffballs lifted their little heads at the same time. Their eyes sparkling, they ran outside and began to frolic and circle around her legs.

An Jin led the cubs out of the Stone Castle and to the backyard. The yard bordered a small patch of jungle not far away, but a large section had been fenced off. This was a hunting training ground she had specially commissioned the Beastmen to build for the three of them.

This hunting training ground simulated the wild as much as possible. It was filled with small wild animals and herbivores, but no dangerous beasts, making it perfect for their daily practice.

"Awoo~" They moved their little paw pads, tentatively stepping onto the lush grass that was as soft as a carpet. Looking up, a vast expanse of primal green danced in their eyes.

As they sniffed the fresh, wild air, a flash of wildness sparked in their normally docile eyes, and they couldn’t help but paw at the ground.

"CHIRP CHIRP~"

The eldest’s wolf ears twitched. He caught a glimpse of a small gray sparrow flashing past and instinctively shot after it.

The second and third cubs followed right behind, each finding their own prey. They dove into the bushes and disappeared completely.

The training ground was fenced on all sides, so An Jin wasn’t worried about them running off. Using her spiritual power, she sensed they were having a great time, so she decided not to disturb them and returned to the Stone Castle herself.

As she entered, she was met by a Beastman running hurriedly toward her.

"City Lord, someone asked me to give this to you," he said, handing her a piece of paper.

A flicker of suspicion rose in An Jin’s heart. Instead of opening it right away, she tucked the paper into her pocket and nodded at him. "Alright, I understand. You’re dismissed."

As the Beastman turned to leave, her gaze narrowed, fixing on his neck.

"Strange, why has my neck been so itchy lately? The ointment isn’t helping at all..."

The Beastman muttered as he walked away.

’A slave imprint.’

She had just seen it with her own eyes: a black slave imprint burrowing into his neck.

"Who told you to give me this note?" she asked suddenly.

The Beastman quickly turned around and said respectfully, "It was..." He had only just started to speak when his voice caught abruptly. "Wait, who did give it to me? I can’t seem to remember what they looked like. I just remember that someone gave me a note for you..."

"..." An Jin’s face darkened, and she said nothing. The fingers in her pocket tightened around the note, nearly crushing it to dust.

The next second, the Beastman collapsed face-first, without even a chance to let out a cry of surprise.

An Jin’s strength was already extraordinary, far surpassing that of a normal Beastman. She simply grabbed the man’s collar, dragged him back to the Stone Castle, and picked the slave imprint out of his neck. Then, she found a plausible reason to temporarily place him in confinement.

For the time being, she told only Mi Yin and the others about what had happened.

"Ah Jin," Xi said, his eyes wide with disbelief. "You... you mean it’s not just the beast slaves who are being implanted now?"

"Do you remember last year? We issued identification cards, which did a great job of preventing Beastmen from the Beast Slave King City from sneaking in. But I never expected..."

She sighed, her voice growing heavy. "We were indeed able to stop Beastmen from the Beast Slave King City from entering our city. But I never imagined they would try to cultivate new beast slaves and spies from within our own walls."

"I’ve already found one, which means there must be a second, and definitely a third..." ’Over the past six months, how far has their plan progressed? How many spies have they cultivated in the shadows?’

"What was written on that note?"
