Chapter 266: Chapter 181: Irritable Tyrant Flower + Materials and Molds

Since every part of it was a treasure, Gu Yin and the others planted the strange, large flower they had dug up earlier in their garden, intending to cultivate it.

But not even two days later, all the other plants in the garden withered away as if their life force had been drained, leaving only the Tyrant Flower, which was now flaunting its even more vibrant blossoms and lush leaves.

So, An Jin had someone move it again and plant it on an empty, fenced-off patch of land.

There were no other plants around the clearing. It was just a bare patch of earth with the flower all by itself.

The Tyrant Flower seemed very unhappy with this arrangement. It frequently bit the young cubs who happened to be strolling nearby, leading to a flood of complaints from the Beastmen.

An Jin rubbed her temples, suffering from a terrible headache. ’I can’t believe this ugly Tyrant Flower actively attacks people. If it had legs and could run around, I’d almost think it was a Beastman.’

So, she had the Beastmen from the smithy build a large iron cage to lock the Tyrant Flower inside. But then it started gnawing on the bars with its sharp, slender teeth.

It only settled down after they started feeding it fresh beef and mutton on a regular basis. ’Oh, so it was just hungry.’

...

Through their efforts over this period, the Beastmen at the smithy had successfully crafted five to six thousand arrows and a hundred bows.

The bowstrings were made from a blend of silkworm thread and highly durable ramie fiber, mixed in specific proportions. The resulting strings were so tough that they were difficult to snap, even for the incredibly strong Beastmen.

The Beastmen showed immense enthusiasm for this new type of weapon they had never seen before.

But with so many people in the city, An Jin couldn’t possibly teach everyone by herself. She decided to first teach Gu Yin and the others closest to her. They could then teach the next group of Beastmen, who would in turn teach others, and so on.

Two figures, one tall and one short, made their way to the outskirts of the city, their feet sinking into the soft, carpet-like grass.

The familiar jungle once again filled their vision. Yellow-green leaves rustled in the wind, and bright sunlight filtered through the dense canopy, casting dappled shadows on the slightly damp, dark earth.

The air was filled with the refreshing scent of grass and trees, a fragrance that eased the heart. The sounds of nature formed a constant chorus—the crisp chirps of insects and the calls of birds, rising and falling all around them.

This primeval forest, brimming with vibrant life, always so effortlessly offered a threefold, immersive pleasure for the senses of sight, hearing, and smell.

RUSTLE~ The low bushes and ferns shook from time to time, offering brief glimpses of small animals that had failed to hide perfectly, still trying to conceal themselves within the dense undergrowth.

The two of them picked a spot at random and stopped. An Jin held up the bow she was carrying, pulled an arrow from the wooden quiver on her back, and handed both to Gu Yin.

"Like this," An Jin said, personally demonstrating how to use the bow. "Hook the bowstring with your thumb and pull back hard..."

Drawing on her experience from teaching Xi, she found that teaching Gu Yin was significantly easier. Of course, it could also be that they simply had different aptitudes.

Gu Yin had it down after just a couple of tries. Snake Beasts weren’t like fish, which supposedly have seven-second memories; their kind was well-known for having excellent recall.

He drew the bow, his expression a mixture of lazy indifference and cold severity. His long fingers nocked the arrow, pulling the string back with force. Veins stood out faintly on his slender, elegant hands, and his knuckles turned a bloodless white from the strain. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

A Snake Beast’s powerful senses meant he didn’t need to rely on sight; he could keenly perceive every rustle of wind and blade of grass around him.

To him, no living creature attempting to hide could escape his notice.

WHOOSH— The arrow flew from the bow, instantly striking a Green-horned Beast a hundred meters away. With a choked cry that was cut off before it could fully form, the prey was pinned to a large tree behind it.

The arrow pierced straight through the Green-horned Beast’s neck, its sharp tip burying itself deep into the rough tree trunk and staining the bark with a glaring splash of crimson.

Before the two of them could even go over to retrieve their prize, they heard a sharp CRACK, followed by the heavy THUD of the tree crashing to the ground.

The massive Green-horned Beast and the splintered tree trunk slammed into the ground together, carving out a shallow crater.

An Jin was speechless. ’This is just insane. It was an ordinary arrow, but in Gu Yin’s hands, it had the impact of a cannonball.’

’This huge gap in strength is so unfair.’

She pouted.

"Not bad at all," Gu Yin said with a satisfied smile. He effortlessly coiled his black-and-red snake tail around their prize for the day and began dragging it home.

’The meat from this prey’s neck is especially tender and tasty,’ he thought. ’I can make something delicious for my dear Jin’er again tonight.’
