Favorite of the Beast-world: I Got Rich Through Farming-Chapter 211 - 153: Rushing Back to the Tribe and Ling Hong’s Anger
After successfully killing the pack of Demon Beasts, the Beastmen split into two groups, spreading out as swiftly as a rushing tide.
One group used their sharp claws to clear away the spiderwebs, rescuing over a dozen unconscious and injured Beastmen who had been starved to the point of being nearly mummified. They hoisted the rescued onto their broad, powerful backs to take them back to the tribe for treatment.
CRUNCH! CRACK!
The other group squatted on the ground, using their thick palms to crush the skulls of the Demon Beasts.
They dug the blood-soaked Magic Beast Crystal Cores from the crushed skulls and stuffed them into the Beast Skin Bags they carried with them.
The Beast Skin Bags were stuffed to the brim with what looked to be over a hundred Crystal Cores.
Returning with a bountiful haul, the Beastmen’s triumphant roars echoed across the land. Traces of exhilaration and ferocity remained on their blood-stained faces.
After these Magic Beast Crystal Cores were set aside for a while, the Demonic Qi on them would completely dissipate. They could then be used as ordinary Crystal Cores—not only as a common currency for trade, but the immense Energy contained within could also help Beastmen level up and advance.
SPLASH...
The low, thick clouds squeezed out rain, which fell in sheets, crashing down from the heavens. The drizzle became a torrential downpour, and then lightning split the sky, illuminating the pitch-black night as if it were day.
"Why did it suddenly start raining? This damn weather!"
"AWOO!"
"My fur is about to get soaked, and then I won’t be allowed back in the house! It’ll take forever to lick it clean!" The Beastmen, soaked like drowned rats, stampeded out of the forest.
The Beastmen hated the bedraggled feeling of their wet fur; it also slowed their pace.
"HISS~" Gu Yin, in contrast, quite liked this kind of cold, damp weather. He narrowed his blood-red, slitted pupils, lazily gazing up at the flickering sky as he frequently flicked his tongue to taste the rich moisture in the air.
Carrying An Jin, he moved at an unhurried pace along the muddy, rain-slicked path, soon falling to the rear of the group.
Holding the female securely in his sturdy right arm, he casually broke off a large, lotus-like leaf to shield her head from the rain.
"Whew..." An Jin’s breath fogged in the air as she rubbed her goosebump-covered arms.
Seeing his mate shivering from the cold, Gu Yin grew anxious and quickened his pace.
"Wait!" An Jin suddenly gripped his arm, her eyes widening as she stared back at the dark forest receding behind them.
"What’s wrong?"
Gu Yin reached out to gently wipe the raindrops from her face, angling the large leaf lower to cover her more completely. His own body was left exposed to the rain, drenching him to the core.
...
An Jin’s brow was tightly furrowed, her breathing unsteady. Her fingertips dug into the muscle of Gu Yin’s arm, leaving red marks, before she finally shook her head.
She rested her chin in the crook of his neck and nuzzled him. Her voice was languid with exhaustion. "It’s nothing. I was probably just seeing things. It felt like a strange fluctuation of Energy flashed by just now..."
’But even the ever-vigilant Gu Yin hadn’t noticed anything. Maybe it really was just my imagination. After all, the energy fluctuation was gone in an instant.’
"You’ve been exhausted these past two days. You need to rest well when we get back." 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Gu Yin’s arm tightened, pulling the female, who was growing quiet, closer into his embrace. He lowered his head and pressed his cool, soft lips to hers.
His large hand cupped the back of her head, deepening the kiss as if he couldn’t bear to part, but he released her after only a few seconds.
Worried that staying in the rain too long would make An Jin sick, Gu Yin wasted no time and returned to the tribe at top speed. The incident was soon forgotten by them both.
The sudden thunderstorm ruined the bonfire feast the tribe had planned to welcome An Jin and the others.
But upon hearing that the Demon Beasts had been successfully exterminated, the Beastmen were too excited to sleep. Braving the downpour, they began to sing and dance right where they stood.
The scene was rather comical.
"Hurry back and get some rest! If you get soaked to the bone, the females won’t like it. They might not even let you in the house," An Jin laughed.
"AWOO!"
The Beastmen then scurried under the eaves to shelter from the rain. Without a word, they shifted into their beast forms and began licking their damp fur with their barbed tongues.
After wolfing down a meal, the Beastmen from the other tribes declined An Jin’s polite, characteristically Huaxia attempt to make them stay. They took advantage of a lull in the rain and hurried back to their own tribes.
The haul of Crystal Cores was bountiful this time. Even after giving half to the Beastmen from the other tribes, fifty or sixty Crystal Cores still remained.
Distributing these to the hard-working Beastmen based on their usual hunting performance and contributions would greatly enhance the tribe’s fighting strength.
Gu Yin went back to their wooden house first to prepare some food for her, while An Jin and a few available Beastmen brought the dozen or so unconscious Beastmen they had rescued to Chi Li.
"Which tribe are these Beastmen from?" Chi Li looked back at her.
An Jin yawned. She rested her folded arms on the windowsill and looked outside, rubbing her bleary eyes. "I don’t know. We found them in the Demon Beasts’ lair. They were already unconscious when we encountered them."
"We’ll ask them after they wake up."
Chi Li nodded. After tending to the injured Beastmen’s wounds, he pried open their mouths one by one and forced them to drink some blood-replenishing medicinal soup.
"These Beastmen are too weak. I’m not sure how many of them I can save," Chi Li sighed. Though he was usually frivolous, as the Witch Doctor, he couldn’t bear to see a Beastman die.
"We’ve done our part."
An Jin comforted him, "We could have just left them there, but we took a risk to bring them back. That help alone is a lifesaver for them."
"Mm."
Chi Li seemed to relax a little.
After a long and chaotic night, day had finally broken. The thunderstorm had stopped, and the world, washed clean by the downpour, seemed to be reborn.
The air was filled with the pleasant, damp smell of earth, mingled with the faint scent of grass and trees.
Exhausted from a sleepless night and prolonged mental exertion, An Jin felt dizzy and weak. She had just said goodbye to Chi Li and reached the door of her own wooden house when Ling Hong opened it from the inside.
’What a coincidence.’
"..." Ling Hong looked down at her, his expression cold and stern. His thin lips were pressed into a tight line, his sharp, handsome jaw was tense, and his eyes were bloodshot, as if he hadn’t slept all night.
He’d wanted to angrily demand why she had snuck off without a word, leaving only a message for him with Gou Ni.
’She had no idea how worried he’d been about her all night.’
But seeing An Jin’s weak and exhausted state, the anger Ling Hong had suppressed all night was instantly extinguished. His heart aching, he wrapped her tightly in a beast hide and carried her into the house.
Though he was always gentle with her, he couldn’t help the note of reproach in his voice. "You’re this exhausted and you still didn’t think to come straight home? Me and that snake made you food. Eat, then go straight to sleep."
The man rubbed his cheek against her cold one, his wide, warm palms enveloping her two small, clenched fists. He pressed her hands against his searing, solid chest to warm them.
