Favorite of the Beast-world: I Got Rich Through Farming-Chapter 207 - 149: Chi Li’s Worry and the Concerted Effort of All Tribes
’Berserk beasts?’
An Jin’s gaze grew heavy as it fell upon several unconscious, wounded individuals. A faint wisp of Demonic Qi seeped from the mangled flesh within the lacerations that pierced their chests.
Only a frenzied Demon Beast could inflict such horrifying wounds.
’Half a month ago, Gu Yin had already wiped out all the nearby Demon Beast packs. How has a new wave appeared so quickly? Something is definitely amiss.’
"Quick, get them to the Witch Doctor! If their wounds aren’t treated immediately, they could bleed to death." ’I can’t let word of the Demon Beasts get out, or it will cause a panic among the Beastmen.’
An Jin supported one of the wounded as she and the other Beastmen carried the five or six injured individuals into a wooden hut.
Chi Li, who had been about to turn in for the night, was startled by the commotion at his door. "What’s all this? Can’t you people be quiet at this hour?"
He yawned sleepily and rubbed his eyes. When his vision cleared, he suddenly noticed the numerous casualties and was too stunned to speak.
"This is..." Chi Li’s gaze fell upon the blackened wounds of the injured. He glanced at An Jin, a question on the tip of his tongue.
An Jin understood his unspoken question and gave a grim nod. "Sorry to trouble you this late. They were attacked by a pack of Demon Beasts."
"Many of the Beastmen who returned from hunting today said they encountered a number of frenzied Demon Beasts in the Worri Forest..."
The sky was now pitch-black. An Jin sent the Beastmen, who had been hunting all day, home to rest. A few oil lamps flickered on the wooden table inside the hut, and several glowing Crystal Stones were embedded in the walls.
The two of them worked together, cleaning the wounds of the unconscious Beastmen, debriding the necrotic flesh, applying salves, and dressing the injuries... Time flew by. Outside the window, the first hints of light began to pierce the pitch-black night.
They hadn’t slept all night.
By the time they finished bandaging the last Beastman’s wounds, An Jin could barely keep her eyes open.
She yawned nonstop, wiping a thin sheen of sweat from her face. She felt dizzy and weak, her body on the verge of collapse.
She turned to look at Chi Li.
He wasn’t in much better shape.
His mouth dry, Chi Li picked up a clay cup from the table and took a long drink of water, leaving a sheen of moisture on his well-shaped lips.
"So, what’s your next move? Are you just going to keep this from the rest of the tribe?"
He frowned at her and shook his head. "That’s not a long-term solution. Demon Beasts reproduce with incredible speed. They can use their Demonic Qi to infect ordinary animals, turning them into more Demon Beasts."
"If we don’t eliminate them quickly, they’ll overrun this entire forest in half a month, tops. You won’t be able to hide it then."
He had seen the horrors of a Demon Beast infestation with his own eyes.
Unlike Beastmen like An Jin, who had grown up in a small, remote tribe, Chi Li knew that the devastation wrought by a Demon Beast tide meant much more than just death.
"This pack of Demon Beasts must be eliminated. Immediately."
Chi Li’s voice was cold as he tapped his fingers on the table. The usual playful smirk was gone from his handsome face, replaced by a stern expression she had rarely seen. "Take the next few days to prepare. Gather the tribe’s strongest Beastmen to hunt the Demon Beasts deep in the forest. I’ll prepare some healing potions for you all."
An Jin nodded, pressing her lips together. "We’ll need to leave some warriors behind to protect the tribe. All the females are here. If the Demon Beasts were to launch a surprise attack, other nearby tribes might seize the opportunity to strike as well."
Chi Li nodded. He’d been shortsighted. Competition among Beastmen for territory and females was notoriously fierce.
"A Demon Beast outbreak in the Worri Forest... we can’t be the only tribe affected," Chi Li said suddenly, his gaze drifting out the window. His gilded, fox-like eyes narrowed with a cunning glint.
An Jin quickly understood the implication of his words, but she couldn’t bring herself to smile. Her expression grew even colder. "I’ll go discuss this with Ling Hong and the others. We’ll need a few days to prepare. Make sure you brew plenty of wound-healing salves. We’re going to need a lot."
"Alright."
On her way back to her hut after leaving Chi Li, she ran into Ling Hong and Gu Yin, who had come searching for her.
Seeing the worried looks on their faces, An Jin managed a faint smile. She took each of them by the hand and started walking back. "Don’t worry, I’m fine."
"I came across some injured Beastmen on my way back this evening. I didn’t realize it had gotten so late while treating them." An Jin then told them everything that had happened in detail, especially her suspicions about the Demon Beast outbreak in the forest.
"Jin’er, don’t worry. I’ll go wipe them out."
Gu Yin bent down and swept her into his arms, one arm securely around her waist as he walked steadily toward their home. "I must have missed one or two of them half a month ago, giving them a chance to multiply."
Ling Hong walked beside him, his long, powerful strides easily keeping pace as he shielded her from the cold night wind. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Seeing the woman he loved with her brow furrowed in worry, Ling Hong clenched his fists at his sides and said in a cold voice, "I’ll take a few warriors with him. We’ll wipe them out faster together."
"I can handle it myself. I don’t need anyone slowing me down. You stay here and protect Jin’er." Gu Yin’s dismissive gaze fell upon Ling Hong, his contempt for a mere Sixth Rank Beastman unconcealed.
Ling Hong fell silent. ’He was a powerful Beastman, gifted and strong, but right now, he felt completely helpless.’
In the end, he just nodded. "I’ll protect Jin’er."
In just a few short days, a massive Demon Beast tide erupted in the Worri Forest. The sudden crisis caught everyone completely by surprise.
It wasn’t just An Jin’s tribe. Other tribes in the area had also been attacked by Demon Beasts, and their losses were even more devastating.
Several smaller tribes were wiped out entirely. Those who weren’t killed or wounded were left homeless, forcing them to crowd into larger, more powerful neighboring tribes to seek refuge.
While the tribes often clashed over territory and food, leading to tense and hostile relations for the most part, they unanimously agreed to set aside their differences in the face of such a massive Demon Beast attack. They would stand together against the tide.
The Clan Leaders and Elders from all the surrounding tribes gathered in the Sheng’an Tribe’s marble-paved square, requesting an audience with An Jin.
The Long-armed Ape Tribe, the Hyena Tribe, the nearby Eagle Falcon Tribe, and the Tiger and Leopard Tribe were all among them.
They gaped like villagers on their first visit to a grand city, their eyes wide with astonishment. They stared at the varying heights of the architecture and the powerful, diverse Beastmen moving to and fro, utterly dazzled by the sight.
A complex mix of emotions washed over them, but they all ended up marveling at the sheer power of this tribe.
’Just two or three years ago, this obscure Sheng’an Tribe had been no different from their own—just another ordinary, similarly sized tribe...’
"You’ve all seen the situation in the Worri Forest. A massive swarm of Demon Beasts has appeared. Every tribe must contribute its strength if we are to overcome this crisis together."
The Clan Leader of the Long-armed Ape Tribe, an ally of An Jin, was the first to step forward.
He pounded his muscular chest with arms that hung down to his calves. His expression was resolute, and his voice boomed like a great bell. "Your tribe is the strongest in the region. We will naturally follow your command. Tell us what we need to do."
