Chapter 206: Chapter 148: Sewing Underwear and the Mysterious Man in the Dream

An Jin took the small piece of underwear from his hand and looked it over, biting her lip in frustration. "It’ll get dirty if I wear it just like this. You haven’t shed much in the last two years; it’s better if we use it sparingly."

"Are we really out of cloth strips at home?"

Hearing his mate treasure his Snake Shedding made Gu Yin feel immensely pleased. His snake tail swished rapidly on the ground in delight as he swept her into his arms.

He gently pinched her soft, pale cheek. "We really are out, but I still have plenty of material. I can make a few for you."

An Jin hesitated for a moment, then quickly nodded. "Alright then. It’s too much trouble for you."

"I’m your mate. This is what I’m supposed to do." Displeased by his beloved mate’s formal politeness, Gu Yin couldn’t resist lowering his head and nibbling on her lip, leaving a faint mark.

Although it was meant as a punishment, it didn’t hurt at all. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

An Jin lightly covered her lips, realizing she had been overly polite. Her eyes curved into crescents as she smiled at him. "My Gu Yin is so clever and skilled. Thank you so much."

Gu Yin raised an eyebrow, his displeased gaze still on her. "Just a thank you?" he asked, his voice low and rich.

"Okay, okay, I love you so much! Please hurry and make me a few, or I’m really going to start bleeding everywhere!" An Jin suppressed the goosebumps popping up all over her skin and rubbed her arms, cringing at her own cheesy words.

Hearing the words he wanted to hear, Gu Yin was finally satisfied. He averted his gaze, took a needle, thread, and a few pieces of cloth from a wooden box, then lowered his head and began to sew with focused concentration.

Clutching her still-aching stomach, An Jin shifted and leaned against Gu Yin, her beautiful, jet-black eyes fixed on the man as he worked.

She noticed his hands begin to move much faster.

His snake tail swayed gently on the ground, then irresistibly coiled around half of her body.

"Actually, about this Demon Beast swarm... I had a premonition..."

She had been having nightmares the past couple of days.

’In my dream, I was being chased by a pack of beasts wreathed in black energy. I tripped over a stone and fell hard. Just as I was about to become a Demon Beast’s meal, someone saved me.’

’I can’t remember what the person in the dream looked like anymore.’

’He was surrounded by a white light, hazy and dreamlike. I couldn’t see his face, but he seemed to have hair as white as snow.’

’And... wings?’

An Jin lowered her head, lost in thought. She didn’t know if it was a coincidence, but ever since awakening her spiritual power, she would vaguely foresee strange things now and then.

An Jin’s gaze fell on the needle and thread in Gu Yin’s hands. Watching him work so earnestly, she couldn’t help but stare for a while longer.

Whether from the pain or her own frustration, she furrowed her slender eyebrows again.

She reached out to toy with his long, smooth, ink-black hair, trying to distract herself. "Someone in the tribe was bitten by a beast today," she murmured. "When I went to treat him, I found a faint black aura lingering around the wound..."

"Luckily, I cut that piece of rotting flesh off."

Gu Yin’s hands never stopped moving. His voice was deep and magnetic. "Are you saying the beast that attacked that Beastman was a Demon Beast?"

"Probably."

A flicker of irritation crossed An Jin’s face. She glanced out the window, her thoughts wandering. "I was skeptical at first, but after I came back and heard you say a Demon Beast swarm had erupted nearby, I finally put the two together."

"Have you told anyone else about this?"

Gu Yin asked suddenly.

"Not yet. I only just connected the two after hearing what you said."

An Jin quickly picked up on his implication. "You don’t want the other tribe members to know about this?"

"It’s best not to tell all the Beastmen in the tribe."

Gu Yin didn’t hide his reasoning. "Most of the Beastmen have lived peaceful lives in the tribe since they were young. They’ve never even seen a Demon Beast in their entire lives."

"But they harbor a deep-seated wariness and fear of Demon Beasts. If they learn that a swarm has appeared nearby, it would likely cause mass panic."

An Jin nodded. That was a good point. She had thought the matter was settled.

「Half a month later, during the sweltering season.」

The once-lush forest was wilted under the sun. The incessant chirping of insects rose and fell, and the rare breeze that passed by brought only a scorching wave of heat.

The air shimmered, distorted by the searing heat. The ground was hot enough to cook the flesh of anyone walking barefoot.

Wearing worn-out straw sandals and a straw hat, An Jin saw Beastmen harvesting wheat in the bustling fields in the distance.

There was still more than half a field left.

Since she had nothing else to do, she went to the fields, grabbed a stone sickle, and bent down to start reaping. But she had barely been working for a moment before her skin started to prickle and itch.

She scratched and found it was red and swollen.

’Oh my god, am I allergic to wheat? I didn’t help with the harvest last year, so I’m only just finding this out now.’

"Clan Leader, you should head back! This heat is just torture. We’ve got this!"

Seeing her condition, a few brawny, sweating Beastmen nearby hurried over. "This has happened to a few of us before," one said anxiously. "The Witch Doctor has medicine for it. I can take you to get some."

"There’s no need to trouble you. It’s not far, I can get there myself." An Jin politely refused his kind offer. ’He’s a single male. It’s best not to give them any hope.’

She knew all too well how alluring this body of hers was now.

The Beastman scratched his head sheepishly, his voice crestfallen. "Alright then." He turned and went back to work, clearly disappointed.

After getting the medicine from Chi Li’s wooden house, she was on her way back when she saw a familiar figure limping towards her in the distance.

"Gao Shi? How’s your leg?"

Gao Shi laughed heartily as he approached. Ever since he was freed from slavery, he laughed more in a single day than he had in the previous two years combined. "Don’t worry, Clan Leader! I’m recovering quite well. I can already walk slowly without any issues."

"After a few more days of rest, I’ll be able to go hunting with everyone!"

"It’s all thanks to your help back then. I was already prepared to die. I never thought... I never thought..."

As he spoke, the tall, robust man suddenly choked up, his eyes welling with tears as a deep well of emotion was stirred within him. "My mate only has me, and she just had a litter of cubs last year. If I’d really gone down... I honestly don’t know what she would have done..."

An Jin’s heart ached with sympathy. She was grateful for that spur-of-the-moment decision that had saved a family’s sole provider.

Just as they were talking, several Beastmen came running frantically from the distance, each carrying an unconscious male on their back.

Judging by their direction, they had been heading for Chi Li’s wooden house. But upon seeing An Jin, they staggered over to her with the wounded, gasping for breath. "It’s terrible, Clan Leader! The forest is full of vicious, frenzied beasts, and they’re attacking people on sight!"

"Many of the Beastmen who went hunting today are seriously injured. And... and a few were even eaten by that pack of frenzied beasts..."
