Favorite of the Beast-world: I Got Rich Through Farming-Chapter 143 - 116: The Long-armed Ape Tribe
A burly Bear Beastman heard the commotion and quickly jumped down from the wall. He dusted off his hands and walked respectfully toward An Jin.
"This isn’t the construction perimeter I requested," An Jin said decisively. She pulled a map from a large pocket in her clothes, unfolded it, and scanned the surrounding terrain with narrowed eyes.
"We... took the liberty of altering the perimeter," the Beastman admitted, scratching his large, chiseled, blocky head. He lowered his gaze, his face flushing red.
Several Beastmen on the wall slowly stopped their work and looked over in their direction.
An Jin didn’t say anything, but a hint of displeasure was already visible on her face. She didn’t believe her decisions were something to be altered on a whim.
’It seems my authority isn’t yet great enough for the entire tribe to carry out my orders willingly.’
"We saw all this empty space and thought it was such a waste, so we figured we’d just pull the wall in a bit..." The Beastmen’s voices trailed off as they spoke.
"This empty space has its purpose. Tear this wall down and rebuild it according to the original plan."
An Jin was a perfectionist, through and through.
’If she was going to build a city, she had to follow the plan meticulously. There could be no room for error.’
An Jin walked to the nearby river and checked the water level. She pointed and said to them, "The terrain here is too low. The river is already about to crest its banks, and there’s no reservoir."
"If we build a stone wall here, after a few more heavy downpours, the river will completely overflow. The area will get blocked up and cause widespread flooding."
Immense panic appeared on the Beastmen’s faces. They hadn’t realized the situation was so serious. Without another word, they all scrambled up the wall and quickly began dismantling the half-finished section.
However, expanding outward presented another major problem that couldn’t be ignored.
A timid Field Mouse Beastman spoke up, his voice trembling. "Clan Leader, members of the Long-armed Ape Tribe often hunt and gather fruit in the Worri Forest over there. If we build in that direction, we might provoke them..."
Before he could finish, the Wolf Beastman beside him immediately rapped him on the head.
He gritted his teeth and said with exasperation, "Look at you, you coward! We’re not afraid of them. If it comes to it, we’ll just fight for it. The territory belongs to whoever takes it!"
"Exactly! You think we’re scared of them?" several other brawny Beastmen chimed in.
They roared with laughter, mocking the timid and cautious Field Mouse Beastman.
As fierce, battle-loving Beastmen, they had grown restless from the long peace in the tribe and were itching for a fight.
"The Long-armed Ape Tribe?"
An Jin paid no mind to their roughhousing. She looked down at the map, a thoughtful expression clouding her features.
’The Worri Forest is marked as having a lot of plant resources,’ she thought. ’I can’t just give up on it.’ "Is that forest the territory of the Long-armed Ape Tribe?"
The Beastmen shook their heads. The Worri Forest was vast, and no single tribe was powerful enough to claim it all.
But the nearby Long-armed Ape Tribe, it had to be said, was a large and troublesome group to deal with.
They had a population of several hundred, and their Clan Leader was a Sixth Rank Beastman. They were used to running rampant in the forest and often stole other tribes’ prey.
Most tribes gave them a wide berth, not wanting to cause any trouble.
"So what if it’s theirs? Beastmen settle things with their fists. If you want that territory, we’ll take it by force."
As the cold, deep voice spoke, the tall, imposing figure of a Beastman entered her line of sight.
It was Ling Hong, speaking with authority from not far away.
The few Wolf Beasts instantly grew excited. With their pillar of strength present, they spoke with a brutish, thuggish tone. "Hmph, exactly! That forest isn’t even their territory to begin with. And even if it were, we could still take it from them!"
An Jin couldn’t help but smile as she looked up. She saw Ling Hong carrying a pile of firewood half a man’s height on his broad shoulders, striding quickly toward her as if gliding on the wind.
Sweat glistened on the man’s well-defined, muscular body. Veins stood out on his arms, and a few strands of silver-white hair were stuck to his handsome, chiseled face. His pair of silver-white wolf ears, however, remained pricked high in constant vigilance. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
The long rainy season had finally let up for a few days. Ling Hong had taken advantage of this, climbing out of his den before dawn and spending half the day chopping wood in the forest. He planned to take it back to dry and replenish their home’s supply of firewood.
He had spotted An Jin’s figure from a distance and, without a second thought, had shouldered the hundreds of pounds of firewood and jogged right over.
"Why are you here by yourself? Isn’t that Snake Beast with you?"
Ling Hong freed one hand to ruffle her hair, his voice laced with concern as he noted she had no one with her.
