Favorite of the Beast-world: I Got Rich Through Farming-Chapter 124 - 109: All the Delicious Food for You
The rainy season was approaching, and the weather had turned cool. Rolling clouds pressed down on the horizon, and a white mist rose from the forest, lingering even at noon.
The ground was a vast expanse of mud and puddles. The marshland was overgrown with wild grass, and the weary, traveling Beastmen had to remain vigilant against sneak attacks from giant lizards and crocodiles.
The Beastmen pushed carts piled high as small mountains with supplies, while An Jin was nestled on one of the carts, wrapped in a cloak.
The large, gray cloak bundled her up tightly. She rubbed her small, red hands, then looked up at the gloomy sky and slowly exhaled a puff of white breath.
They had already covered more than half the journey.
They estimated it would take another two days of travel to reach the city.
"We’ll rest here. Eat something before we press on."
Ling Hong was at the rear of the group. Seeing that An Jin looked a little pale, he called for the caravan to halt.
The Beastmen chose a safe spot and busied themselves with setting up camp.
Ling Hong took five or six Beastmen with him to hunt and gather firewood. Soon, they returned, each carrying a large wild boar or a two-horned beast. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
The damp wood was extremely difficult to light. After a great deal of thick, black smoke finally dissipated, the Beastmen, having cleaned their game, began to set up their pots and stoves.
While waiting for them to return, An Jin had taken Gu Yin to gather a good amount of wood ear mushrooms, as well as some wild vegetables and fruits.
There wasn’t much ceremony to eating and sleeping out in the open. They simply roasted some meat and simmered a few pots of mushroom and meat soup.
Gu Yin held An Jin in one arm. His lower body transformed into a coiled snake tail, forming a fleshy cushion for her to sit on.
He pulled a piece of roasted meat, sizzling with fat and crispy on the outside but tender on the inside, from the fire. His fingertips instantly turned red, and he swayed his snake tail, backing away slightly.
"Jin’er, eat some meat." Gu Yin endured the searing heat, using his long fingernails to slice the roast into thin pieces. He offered the most tender part to the female in his arms.
An Jin didn’t stand on ceremony either. Her stomach was rumbling with hunger. She took the meat directly with her hands, blew on it twice, and stuffed it into her mouth, her lips soon glistening with grease.
Not far away, Ling Hong and a few Wolf Beasts were gathered around another fire. His gaze remained fixed on An Jin, the roasted meat in his hand untouched. Perhaps he had no appetite.
Ling Hong looked down at the fragrant, fatty meat in his hand. ’My roasted meat is delicious,’ he thought, ’but she already has that Snake Beast by her side.’ After hesitating for a long time, he sullenly ate the piece of meat himself.
An Jin patted her full, round belly. Her eyes narrowed, feeling a bit drowsy. She lifted her small face and said gently, "You eat too. I can’t eat much; I’m already getting full."
"Mm," Gu Yin nodded. He took the half-eaten piece of meat from her hand and quietly finished it all himself.
After eating and drinking their fill, the Beastmen, weary from days of travel, took the opportunity to get some proper rest that night.
There were no caves nearby. Fortunately, the Beastmen weren’t particular. They simply unrolled animal hides on the ground, transformed into their beast forms, and began to doze off, leaving about a dozen of their number to take turns on watch.
A great chorus of snores rose through the jungle, a powerful deterrent to ordinary wild animals.
Gu Yin coiled his tail around An Jin, and the two of them moved into the shadows of a small grove nearby.
Once they were away from the crowd, he wrapped an arm around her waist, and his hands began to wander.
As soon as night fell, certain thoughts of his began to stir restlessly.
An Jin was speechless. She placed a hand on his firm chest, lowered her voice, and shot him a warning glare. "Everyone is nearby. C-could you please behave yourself?"
’A passionate session out in the wild is too intense,’ she thought. ’I can’t handle that. Besides, the Beastmen have such sensitive hearing. If we woke them up, I’d be so embarrassed I’d want to find a hole to crawl into.’
"HISS~" His forked tongue flicked out and licked her face. Although he wanted her, he still respected her wishes.
In Gu Yin’s mind, being intimate with his beloved partner was a wonderful and enjoyable thing. He liked doing it happily together, just the two of them, when it was quiet and no one else was around.
Besides, the sounds she made were so beautiful to him; he loved them, and they made his heart race even more. The Snake Beast’s intense possessiveness wouldn’t allow any other Beastman to hear them.
The weather had been unusually clear for the past two days. The sunlight wasn’t hot, but it was exceptionally bright. An Jin shielded her brow with her hand, her eyes narrowed as she occasionally glanced up at the sky.
Numerous flocks of eagles had been circling high above their heads for half a day now. The sound of their cries pierced the air from time to time, sharp enough to give one a headache.
’Is it my imagination?’
An Jin had a bad feeling about this.
The flocks of eagles were too far away for the Beastmen to determine if they were just ordinary beasts or Beastmen from the Feather Clan. All they could do was cautiously quicken their pace.
Eagles are unruly and ferocious birds of prey. They can soar proudly thousands of meters in the air, precisely locking onto land creatures for a powerful strike. Their hunting prowess is considered the greatest among all flying birds.
And eagles are the natural enemies of snakes...
An Jin couldn’t help but cast a worried glance at Gu Yin. Seeing that he wasn’t showing much emotion, she then remembered that he was, after all, a Seventh Rank Beastman. ’These eagles probably can’t do him any real harm.’
With that thought, she relaxed and continued on with the group.
With the great rainy season approaching, food was scarce. Even some wild animals had the sense to hoard food and gorge themselves in advance.
’Their carts are piled with dried meat and jerky,’ she reasoned. ’These flocks of eagles must have smelled it and are simply looking for food, right?’
They shortened the distance of their journey considerably, but the eagles’ cries persisted, growing ever more ferocious.
The long screeches from high above seemed to startle the sky and halt the clouds, their piercing quality sharp enough to pierce clouds and shatter stone.
An Jin began to feel a sense of dread. The flocks of eagles overhead seemed to be tailing them. Half a day had passed, and not only had they not dispersed, but their numbers were growing.
At first, she had guessed they were just ordinary Eagle Beasts that happened to be hunting nearby, but now...
"Throw some jerky on the ground! We need to pick up the pace and get moving!"
If the flocks of eagles swooped down to snatch the food, it would prove they were just ordinary, hungry beasts.
But if they ignored the jerky and continued to follow, they were most likely Beastmen from another clan with ulterior motives.
...
Dozens of giant eagles circled high in the sky.
The lead eagle’s pair of broad, golden wings was exceptionally striking and brilliant. Its feathers seemed bathed in the dazzling golden light of a blazing sun. Its beak was sharp, and its powerful, keen talons pulsed with pent-up strength.
Its sharp Eagle Eyes were locked onto the female on the ground.
Even from several kilometers away, it could still clearly see every blade of grass, every tree, and every person on the ground.
The small female, surrounded by Beastmen, was dressed in a large cloak. Though it hid most of her face, her figure was exquisite. A few strands of silky black hair playfully escaped from her hood.
Song Ke grew excited.
"SCREEE—"
At his command, the flock of eagles swooped down. Every one of the dozens of Eagle Beasts Song Ke had brought was an elite from the city; not a single one was below the Fourth Rank in strength.
Song Ke could tell at a glance that the Wolf Beast was also a Sixth Rank, so he immediately assigned more than half of his Eagle Beasts to deal with him specifically.
The remaining Eagle Beasts moved to tie up the Beastmen from the small tribe.
As for that snake?
’Eagles are the natural enemies of snakes.’ Song Ke didn’t even spare it a glance. ’That Snake Beast is a Fifth or Sixth Rank at most. I can take care of him easily by myself.’
The Silver Wolf was instantly entangled in a fight with dozens of eagles. Its terrifying bite force killed two of them outright, but its body was also quickly covered in several bloody scratches.
