Favorite of the Beast-world: I Got Rich Through Farming-Chapter 102 - 97: Plot Hodgepodge
Mi Yin suppressed the ache in his chest and soon left the tribe. This time, he truly did search the entire mountain but found no trace of the Wolf Beast.
’Perhaps that Wolf Beast really is dead, torn apart by wild animals long ago.’
Mi Yin was cold-blooded by nature and felt no sympathy for the death of a tribesman. He only felt a furtive joy that the threat was gone.
’This way, regardless of whether that wolf ever had a place in Jin’er’s heart, now that he’s dead, his presence in her mind will only fade with time.’ 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
’Besides, Jin’er is a female. Females are never short of mates; it’s perfectly normal for a male or two around them to die.’
When Mi Yin told An Jin the news of Ling Hong’s death, she was silent for a long time. Then, she organized the tribe’s Beastmen for another large-scale search, but they all came back empty-handed.
’It seems Ling Hong really is dead.’
An Jin was downcast for a long time. Life and death were a normal part of nature. This was true for Ling Hong, for the other Beastmen in the tribe, and eventually, it would be true for her and Mi Yin as well.
She concluded it was better to live in the present than to mourn the dead, and with that thought, she found peace.
The windy season passed quickly, giving way to the scorching, dry hot season.
The midday sun was so bright it made one’s vision swim. The air shimmered murkily, as if scorched by flames. The new sprouts in the tilled fields withered and yellowed under the heat, while the raucous chirping of insects rose and fell.
Even though An Jin took two cold baths a day, she still felt like she was dying from the dry heat. She was constantly sweating and had to change her sweat-drenched hide skirt twice a day.
When she transmigrated last year, it had been near the end of the hot season.
She had thought the days were unbearably hot back then, but she had clearly underestimated how harsh the environment of the Beast World could be. The current heat felt like a furnace, scorching the ground and making it impossible to stay outside for even a minute.
It was a little better at night, sleeping while cuddling Mi Yin in his beast form. He would instinctively curl his cool-to-the-touch tail around her.
But An Jin couldn’t just stay curled up in her "snake coil" all the time.
"Ah Jin, there’s a type of Frozen Stone from the deep sea that’s rich in cold Energy. Placing it in a room is a great way to cool down. Let me bring some back for you!" Xi suggested, seizing the opportunity. He had finally found a chance to be useful and make his presence felt.
After getting her approval, Xi left the tribe, pleased as punch. It took him two days to swim from a river tributary all the way to the deep sea.
’On my own, I can only carry a few pieces of Frozen Stone at most. In half a month, after Ah Jin uses them up, I’ll have to come back for more.’
’If only there were more Water Beastmen in the tribe, they could help me carry more Frozen Stone.’ Xi sighed with a hint of regret.
On his way back to the tribe, in the estuary where the river met the sea, Xi discovered a large number of migrating Water Beastmen. He slowed his pace and swam toward them.
"What happened? Why are you all migrating toward the land?"
Seeing that the newcomer was a noble Blue Shark, their voices took on a respectful tone as they explained worriedly, "There’s been an outbreak of deep-sea Giant Beasts recently. Our tribe has been destroyed, and the inland waters are a bit safer."
"It’s not just us. Other tribes have also been hit hard. There are many more people migrating this way behind us..."
Xi looked toward the distant coast. Sure enough, beneath the sparkling surface of the sea, large dark shadows were swimming in their direction. It was the first time he had ever witnessed a Sea Clan migration on such a massive scale.
’I wonder if my Beast Father and Beast Mother have been affected.’
After bringing back the Frozen Stone, Xi gave An Jin a concise report on the situation. He also proposed that they could expand the tribe toward the sea in the future, which would make it easier to increase their population of Water Beastmen.
Speaking of expanding the tribe, something occurred to An Jin. Her eyes shone as she looked at Xi, who was ravenously eating after being starved for days. "Oh, that’s right. In a couple of days, if you’re free, take me farther out. I want to check out the surrounding terrain."
"In this heat? Ah Jin, you’ll get sunstroke," the Little Merfolk said, puzzled.
Xi licked a bit of steamed egg from the corner of his lips. He propped his chin on his hand, tilting his exquisitely beautiful face to look at her with concern. "Why do you need to go see the terrain yourself? It’s too hot. You should stay here. I’ll go check for you."
An Jin shook her head. "If we’re going to expand the tribe, we’ll need a map of the surrounding resources and topography. That’s the only way to secure the most advantageous location for our future development."
"A map?"
Xi tilted his head, his waterfall of silky, cool blue hair cascading over his pale, jade-like shoulders. Confusion brewed in his clear, deep azure vertical pupils, but he nodded anyway, agreeing to her request.
"In a couple of days, when the sun isn’t so strong, I’ll take you by water. We can go have a good look around."
