Fated: The Alpha's Unwanted Luna-Chapter 145: The audacity of the Moonwillow guests
The guests pouring in, especially those from lower ranked packs who had been lucky enough to receive an invitation to the upcoming ceremony, couldn’t help but look over at the Moonwillow guests with envy at the sight of the supposed future supreme Luna giving them her personal attention. They were that close to her? How fortunate, because with the future Luna being on such familiar terms with them, they would no doubt receive many future benefits from the Silver Pack.
"I wish I had been friends with Ember before this. I didn’t even think about it," came the whispers of the people around them.
"Me too. Luna Leni is so lucky, look how intimately they are talking to each other."
While the lower ranked pack members envied the display of friendship, the Silver Pack omegas who were leading guests in couldn’t help but frown at who everyone was giving their respect to as the future supreme Luna.
But Ember wasn’t their future Luna, they thought, it was the wolfless woman whom they had all been warned by Beta Matt to never dare call wolfless unless they wish to lose their tongues. Even knowing this, however, they all kept their mouths shut, as it was not their place to correct these seemingly important werewolves about their mistakes.
"Oh no, don’t bother yourselves carrying your bags, let me call the omegas to carry them for you." Ember said to her so-called important guests as she turned around to flag down one of the omegas passing by, but they were all busy except for one who was standing against the wall with her hair hanging around her face like a curtain, looking like a mad woman.
Ember frowned at this omega in mismatched clothing. Weren’t the omega workers in Silver supposed to wear uniforms? Why was this fool standing around doing nothing in a mismatched striped skirt pattern and a loose green and white blouse that fell off one of her skinny shoulders? It seemed some of the lower beings here were not disciplined enough.
With that thought, Ember called over the person she had mistaken for an omega, who was none other than Sofia, a woman who didn’t like being around people and who had been hiding here, making herself as invisible as possible against the wall, waiting for all of the elevators to clear up from the flood of arriving guests.
"Hey, come here!" Ember called, and Sofia looked up at her through the curtain of hair covering her face, her body trembling with fear that someone important was summoning her. What had she done this time? Would she be slapped again like one of the guests had slapped her yesterday for accidentally bumping into them?
"Are you deaf? Get yourself over here before I punish you!" Ember warned with narrowed eyes, seeing that the omega was still standing there like a fool and ignoring her. Was she trying to make her look like she had no authority over the omegas here, she who was soon to be the supreme Luna? Was this useless creature asking for death?
Hearing the word punishment, Sofia’s spine stiffened and she pushed herself away from the wall she had been leaning against, the wall she had been silently wishing would swallow her whole, and began to walk towards the red-haired woman calling her, her fingers nervously clutching the sides of her dress. Punishment. If she didn’t go, she would be punished, and Javier would beat her again mercilessly for not following him into the elevator and getting lost in the crowds.
"I don’t mean to pry, Miss Ember, but I do believe it is high time you take a strict hand with omegas. Imagine her walking like a snail while you are calling her," Leni whispered to her friend, wanting to stay in her good graces and also advise her on how to handle people like this.
At Leni’s words, Ember felt her annoyance spike and she reached out and grabbed the hair of the omega who was dragging her feet and taking her precious time to come to them. "When I call you, you should answer and move like your useless life depends on it, omega." She gritted out and slapped Sofia with a force that made her lose her balance and crash to the floor.
Being beaten by guests was nothing new for Javier’s mate, as she was treated as though she were worthless even by her own husband, and so no one around them who knew her as Javier’s wife said a word, people simply passed by like it was nothing out of the ordinary, and not a single person clarified that she was not an omega.
Ember reached out to grab her hair again, but suddenly a hand wrapped firmly around her wrist, stopping her from reaching Sofia. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
Ember gritted her teeth in anger at the insolent person who had dared to stop her from disciplining an omega, and she turned her head sharply to the side, only to find herself looking at a face she recognized. The blue eyes behind the glasses sparkled with an icy coldness that caught Ember off guard for a moment before she blinked.
Viola?
It wasn’t only Ember who was surprised to see Viola, Evan and her adoptive family, including Leni, were equally stunned. But unlike Ember, who knew she had ordered this woman dead, the others simply assumed that Viola had been here with Ember all along, ever since she had taken her away from Moonwillow.
"Who gives you the right to touch anyone in this pack?" Viola demanded calmly, using every ounce of strength in her body to pry Ember’s hand away from Sofia’s hair and thrust it firmly to the side before she came to stand in front of Sofia.
Viola had been in her penthouse for the past two days, not wanting to come out to face the crowd of arriving guests. She had only come down now, still dressed in her pajamas, to collect a package she had ordered for Sebastian, wanting to give him something in return for the gifts he had given her.
Viola had received a black card for her Luna position, bearing her name and loaded with her own funds, as it was said that every Luna was given a card to spend and buy whatever she desired. It had been a long time since she’d had money of her own, and she had no particular desire to buy anything for herself, but she had come across a fine set of diamond cufflinks and had ordered them for Sebastian without thinking twice.
She had ordered them almost thoughtlessly, driven by that helpless habit she had always carried, even back when she was with Evan, of buying things for the people she held dear. Whoever she came to care about, she would find herself buying things for them, and she had placed the order before she could stop herself.
She wouldn’t have come out here at all if it hadn’t been for the package arriving and the fact that every single omega was far too busy for her to ask anyone to collect it on her behalf, she had her own legs, after all. Only to step out and find Ember slapping Sofia.
The audacity of this she-wolf to slap a member of the Kade family. Even if Sofia turned out not to be a member of the Kade family, which she was, but merely an omega, Ember had no right to hit or dare discipline anyone here. A guest should know their place, and Viola had gone through what felt like a lifetime of torture to know exactly how it felt to be hit and insulted, and she would not tolerate anyone, human or animal, being abused in her presence.
Viola had been the one to request their invitation, but she had completely forgotten that they were arriving today, and she was entirely unprepared for it. Dressed as she was in a plain brown pajama shirt and matching pants with soft house slippers on her feet and her hair twisted into a messy bun, she looked every bit like someone who had just rolled out of bed, but that didn’t mean she wouldn’t intervene.
