Fated: The Alpha's Unwanted Luna-Chapter 112: Terrible possibilities
Viola was brought back to the High Tower skyscraper in Sebastian’s car, where he had insisted she ride with him, even though the drive had been silent and fraught with tension. She would have actually preferred to have the driver drop her off, but there was no need to create a fuss when they were, after all, heading to the same destination.
She had felt the tension even more because of what he had done before they left his quarters, where he had whispered into her ear and she had felt his warm breath tickling her. Thank goodness he hadn’t forced her to sit in the front with him; she had sat in the back while he drove and she had enjoyed the peaceful scenery of the lane back to the city, which calmed her a lot more.
When they returned to the city and the skyscraper, he had silently walked her back to the public elevator without a word and then handed her back her purse, which she had almost forgotten he was holding, along with her high heels, as Viola had walked barefoot from his car without minding it at all.
When she took the purse and shoes from him, he had turned away without a word and gone in the direction of his private elevator, which made her brows draw together. It wasn’t that she wished he would talk to her, but it was astonishing how coldly he had turned away when he had been getting under her nerves in his quarters.
"I will never understand him," she muttered, shaking her head and biting her nail at his mood swings.
By the time Viola reached her penthouse door, the entire grounds of the skyscraper were deserted and somewhat empty, and she had only come across a few omegas working around. She saw many screens announcing her wedding and crowning ceremony, which made her a little nervous, but she quickly pushed the emotions away.
She’d been told that many had returned to their main quarters after the competition, but they would come back for the wedding and crowning ceremony.
When Viola reached her floor, in front of her penthouse, she found a box waiting for her. Inside was a brand-new phone, exactly the same as the one that had been broken. She knew instantly that the Alpha had sent it, because everything from her old phone was backed up inside the new one when she turned it on, and only he knew her phone was broken to send her a replacement.
How did he even get it backed up for her? she wondered as she stepped into her place. She would have been surprised that the phone had arrived there before her, but she had a feeling he had called someone to have it delivered up here.
The infuriating man kept doing things for her that she couldn’t help but feel he was piling up debts for her. And seeing as he could access everything backed up, she couldn’t help but realize that her privacy wasn’t private here, and she needed to be extra careful.
"I still like Zoe’s gift phone better," she muttered, looking at the phone and the pink case. "Now I will have to thank him..."
She closed the door behind her, and the space of her living room felt enormously too big for a single person.
Viola walked up to her living room and laid down on the sofa, calling back Zoe, who she’d missed a call from in Sebastian’s quarter. They talked for a while, with Zoe telling her about the designs she had picked for the ceremony and that she would bring them for sampling tomorrow before they hung up the call.
Viola stared at the blank screen of her new phone after the call ended, contemplating whether she should go ahead and do what she had planned once she returned home, but a fear lunged inside her heart, and the thought of tapping into old, painful memories made her hesitate.
She turned her eyes to the afternoon sky through her glass wall, absentmindedly watching an airplane fly by in the clear blue sky with little white fluffy clouds. She watched until the plane disappeared into the horizon, then slowly turned away.
She would soon be getting married and being crowned the Supreme Luna. The sooner she made peace with her past, the better it would be for her and her path to redemption. Being the Supreme Luna wasn’t going to be an easy feat, not to mention she would be required to have children, a thought that terrified her more than she wanted to admit.
She didn’t believe she was fit to mother another being in her current state, but before that time came, Viola needed to make sure she was at peace with herself and that she had her sister safe and sound back with her.
With Ivy next to her, and finally awakening her wolf, she might actually prepare herself to learn to be a mother. By that time, she would have no past holding her down in its chains.
She needed to break loose from that chain, and the first step was reaching out to the orphanage in Nightshade Pack, just as she had intended the moment she was certain her stay here would be permanent.
At least, if Viola died from the rumored curse of the Alpha’s prophecy, she would be at peace knowing her sister would have luxury and a home.
With that thought, Viola tapped the screen of her phone, which displayed Zoe’s image, and then went on the internet to search for Nightshade Pack, a pack she had sworn years ago, after her adoption, never to look into, so she wouldn’t lose the love of her adoptive parents once they found out the truth behind the adoption and her past deception.
The results of her search made her eyes tremble, and she sat up on the sofa, staring at her screen in disbelief at the images and articles about Nightshade that came on the internet.
Ten years ago, Nightshade Pack, the smallest pack in the werewolf world, had fallen into ruin due to an attack by rogues, losing their resources and many lives in the process. Viola felt her insides churn as she searched for the orphanage, that was what mattered the most to her, the orphanage where everything had started.
She found the orphanage. It was still operating, but it had fallen into a very bad state that made the back of her eyes burn. Was Ivy still there? Was her sister still waiting for her to come? she wondered, seeing that there was no contact number to reach out to, as it was said the signal had been cut off from the pack after the attack and was never repaired again.
Viola clasped her fingers over her mouth in despair. She had wanted to reach out and confirm if Ivy Mallory was still in the orphanage, but it turned out she had no way of doing so now, and the only option would be for her to travel and journey to Nightshade to find her sister herself.
Only Viola couldn’t go now, not when the wedding preparations were going on and the ceremony was coming up. At least, the journey to Nightshade back and forth would take like four days, if not more, which meant she would have to wait until after the wedding...
Viola felt herself falling into more despair, and her phone slipped from her hand without her even realizing it. What condition was Ivy in if she was still in that wretched place that looked half broken in the image?
What if, during the attack years ago, something had... no, she couldn’t dare think that. If something had happened to her sister, she would never be able to forgive herself, never. Nothing should happen to her, nothing.
Viola reverted to peeling off the skin around her nails without even realizing it, until it began to bleed and hurt so badly that she looked down to see her fingers trembling uncontrollably, with tiny drops of blood dripping onto the polished floor.
