The hostages won’t be harmed, and the merfolk aren’t your real enemies. Don’t make stupid decisions… and take this.” He holds out his hand, revealing a small, nearly invisible object.

Harry squints. “I can barely see it… it’s a… metal ball? Wait… don’t tell me it’s one of your grenades!”

Alex smirks. “You need to focus on it with all your might to activate it. I’ve cloaked it in a shallow layer of In, so don’t worry nobody else is able to see it. It’ll work underwater—I’ve tested it.” His tone turns serious. “But only use it if something unexpected happens. The blast radius is huge, and you might kill yourself. I also don’t want to see a bunch of bloody Merpeople corpses floating to the surface. Harry, I trust you’ll only use this if your life is in danger.”

Harry nods and takes the grenade, slipping it into the pocket of his champion’s uniform.

I wish I could watch, but the security’s too tight. I know Dumbledore and the other Headmasters have a way to monitor what happens underwater. Probably the Merpeople themselves relaying the information to them.

Alex glances around, deciding not to sit on the grandstands set up for the task. They look pointless to him, as they don’t allow him to see what happens underwater. “Let’s just wait here at the pier, okay?” he suggests. Menchi, Tereza, and Jewel clearly all agree with him.

As they wait, Alex can’t help but think about Rishi. “That guy’s up to no good, I tell you. Maybe he’s plundering Dumbledore’s office?” he mutters.

Maybe Manipulator Rishi is trying to roast the delectable fiery chicken in the old Manipulator’s office? If Rishi doesn’t share with Princess Jewel, she’ll never forgive him.

“Seriously, I know we said we’d just let him cook, but I’m slowly getting curious,” Alex admits.

“I agree! I want to know what he’s doing too,” Tereza agrees with Alex.

Menchi chuckles, clearly amused by their inability to ask him. “Just ask him directly after this task.”

“You were the one who said we shouldn’t ask him…” Tereza mumbles, confused, as Menchi wraps an arm around her and leans in, still laughing.

Alex notices Fleur surfacing, her Bubble-Head Charm obviously broken. “Got done in by Grindylows. Those little water imps are so pathetic, that’s embarrassing. She’s lucky no one saw what happened,” he says smugly, somewhat looking down on her.

Suddenly, Alex spots movement in the distance. Less than half an hour after the task began, Harry surfaces, carrying Hermione in his arms. He’s smiling but looks a little worried about her, as she is still unconscious, appearing as if she were asleep.

“He did it. Looks like the training paid off!” Tereza says, clearly happy.

Cedric and Krum surface after Harry, taking significantly longer than him, but they manage to at least rescue their hostage, thus succeeding in the task.

Dumbledore announces loudly, looking somewhat relieved, “The second task is over!”

The points are awarded, and not much changes in the overall ranking. Fleur, who completely failed to rescue her hostage, gets a disappointing 15 points.

Krum, like last time, receives 40 points, mostly due to Karkaroff’s biased 10-point score.

Cedric, who did very well and finished in second place, is awarded 45 points, making up for his disappointing performance in the first task.

Harry, exactly like last time, gets a total of 46 points. Karkaroff awards him 7 points, and Madame Maxime gives him 9 points again. The audience boos loudly as the scores are read out.

Wow… they’re really shameless. I can almost respect that. He gives the third place finisher 10 points for a faulty, incomplete Transformation that took forever, but Harry, who was nearly twice as fast and delivered a flawless performance, only gets 7 points. Suddenly, Rishi appears behind the group, smiling, a rare occurrence for him. “It’s time for a strategy meeting!” he declares.
