Chapter 130: Chapter 130: Ms. Shaw Is in Trouble

In the quiet afternoon, Claire Shaw curled up on the sofa like a cat.

Ethan Blackwood took a moment from his busy schedule and draped a thin blanket over her. Claire, half-asleep, glanced up and mumbled, "Are you done with work?"

Ethan gently caressed her face, "Not yet, but I was worried you might catch a cold. The air conditioning in the room is quite strong."

Claire crawled onto him, rubbing her cheek against his neck, "I really like you, brother."

"So spoiled," Ethan lightly flicked her nose, utterly smitten with her adorable antics.

He found it hard to imagine how adorable a tiny bundle, like a child of theirs, would be if Claire ever had one!

In the midst of their affection, Claire’s phone rang. It was Mia Hughes, who hadn’t contacted her in several days.

As soon as the call connected, she heard Mia’s loud voice: "Claire, you didn’t even tell me you’re quitting such a big job. Do you have a new best friend?"

Claire could already imagine Mia’s expression over the phone, "No, I knew you took some time off to rest, so I didn’t want to disturb you."

The little woman, who had been so annoyed a moment ago, was quickly appeased, "I knew we were best friends. But don’t you dare become closer to anyone else. Anyway, since you’re free now, let’s go shopping."

Claire glanced at Ethan, actually quite content to stick close to him like this, feeling content merely by sensing his warmth.

Ethan patted her head, whispering softly in her left ear, "Go ahead."

Claire only felt a warm breath by her ear and her back shivered; she couldn’t actually hear what Ethan said.

But from his breathing pattern, she roughly guessed that Ethan was very busy and didn’t want her to be bored in the office.

So Claire agreed with a smile.

After hanging up the phone, she seemed unaffected, "Then I’m going. I’ll come pick you up after work."

"Alright, let Wyatt and the others follow you."

"No need, I’ve already quit; no one knows my whereabouts. Besides, I’m just meeting with girlfriends, and I’ll return soon."

Claire didn’t want everyone to know about her and Ethan, and Ethan understood her concern, "Okay, call me if anything happens."

"Hmm." Claire got up neatly.

The girl, wearing a cheongsam and high heels, adjusted her hair, moving with a graceful charm.

Reluctant to see this little enchantress leave, wherever Claire was, would be the center of attention.

At Astraeon, Mia Hughes rushed over from afar to hug her, complaining loudly: "Claire, you have no idea how scared I was that day. I almost drowned in the sea. If it weren’t for Sean Jacobs and his friends being there, I might never have seen you again..."

Claire hugged her back, "It’s okay now."

Like girls of their age, they ate and drank together, and for once, Claire—who never posted on social media—sent a few photos to Ethan Blackwood.

Looking at the photos of the girl with bright eyes and gleaming teeth, Ethan’s heart softened.

Mia Hughes posted three updates on her social media in one afternoon, drawing likes and envy from former colleagues.

After finishing their afternoon tea, Mia suggested picking out a birthday gift for Sean. Claire’s eyes scanned the gentlemen’s suits and finally settled on a silver tie clip.

She discreetly noted it, accompanied Mia to finish shopping, and then the two parted ways.

After seeing Mia get into a car, Claire turned back to the mall to buy that tie clip.

As evening approached, a mist hung over the city bathed in heavy rain, with the streets bustling and lively.

Holding a shopping bag and a clear umbrella, Claire walked down the road.

She dialed Ethan’s phone, "Are you still busy?"

"Yes, I have to work overtime tonight. Shall I send someone to pick you up, or would you like to go back to Silvanest to rest first?"

Claire chuckled, "Where the husband goes, the wife follows, I want to accompany..."

Before finishing her sentence, Claire suddenly felt someone quickly approaching from behind. She instinctively turned around, only to see several strong men cover her mouth.

"Hel..."

Ethan sensed something was wrong and quickly asked, "Luna, what’s going on?"

But his answer was only the disconnected tone.

Yet he clearly heard Claire’s unfinished cry for help just before the call ended.

He immediately contacted Mia Hughes, who was puzzled upon receiving the call from Ethan.

She was already in the car, drinking taro milk tea, chewing on large taro pearls, and asked who was calling in a muffled voice.

"It’s Ethan Blackwood. Are you still with Ms. Shaw?"

"No, we parted about twenty minutes ago. I’m almost home."

Ethan didn’t waste any more words and asked Mia to tell him the last place they separated.

After hanging up, he immediately instructed Finn Pierce.

"Get all the surveillance from the mall and the surrounding areas, check quickly; Ms. Shaw is in trouble."

While speaking, Ethan grabbed his coat and car keys and hurried out.

Claire’s whereabouts are currently unknown, and logically, no one should know her location.

Who could it be?

Furrowing his brows, Ethan sped towards the business district.

This hour was the rush hour; the area around the business circle was very congested, the car’s taillights glowing red. He was anxious, but this was also a good thing.

If the perpetrators intended to take Claire away, they too would be stuck in traffic, giving him a chance to rescue her.

Using various surveillance means, it wasn’t long before they tracked Claire exiting the mall through the back door and walking along an alley heading to a ride-share pickup point.

Coincidentally, the surveillance on this road recently broke. They found a shopping bag and a phone lying in the rain along the way.

Upon opening the bag, the purchase info was confirmed to be Claire’s.

Ethan took out that tie clip, aware that it was the gift Claire had promised to give him.

Suppose she intended to avoid Mia and went back to buy the tie clip, inadvertently giving others a chance.

Finn Pierce also brought news, "Found out, these few people were lurking suspiciously around Ms. Shaw in the mall, and followed her when she left."

Ethan watched the surveillance video, gritting his teeth, "Keep looking!"

With the current technology, finding someone is a breeze.

The results, however, surprised Ethan, as these individuals had no mysterious background—just a group of thugs and scoundrels.

No sophisticated means were even employed; it was found out easily.

"These people have some criminal records: drug use, involvement in vice activities, gambling, but no homicide. Why would they kidnap Ms. Shaw?"

Ethan’s face grew cold; if they weren’t after her life, they must be... after her.’s dignity.

"Continue searching every car and alley, even if it means digging three feet deep to find Ms. Shaw."

Claire has already been traumatized once by Cecilia Lewis; she must not be subjected to it again! 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

Otherwise, if her illness flares up, the consequences would be unimaginable.

Claire regained consciousness, her mind still groggy.

She recalled the scene before losing consciousness, someone having pressed a cloth over her nose, and within seconds, she lost awareness.

A muffled male voice sounded in her ear: "You’re awake..."
