Fake Professor, Misunderstood As Strong-Chapter 260: The Plans for a new adventure begins. Part-2.
Jareth took the car, and it took him only half an hour to reach the baseball field.
It was a very luxurious place, and only famous people with a certain level of ’status’ were allowed to enter it.
’This setup seems like we are about to discuss some really important stuff today...’
Even in his previous life, whenever his boss had to discuss some really shady stuff with him, he would arrange the meeting in a place where people least expected it.
Jareth was part of a shady company before and has his fair share of experience to know about these things.
He didn’t even have to prove his status to enter either; just by seeing his face, the security guards started shivering like frightened kittens and opened the door for him.
Even the lady behind the counter was talking in a fearful tone the moment she saw him coming inside.
Jareth is extremely well known in the entire nation, and his people know that he’s a literal walking nuclear missile.
No one dares to stop him or ask him questions at all; they immediately arranged a guard to lead him to the place where Thomas had asked him to meet.
All the guards in this place are powerful veteran knights, yet the person who got chosen to be his escort was nearly on the verge of collapse the moment he was chosen for this task.
He led Jareth to the place with unsteady legs, and he kept shivering over and over.
’Do I really look that frightening? I know that my reputation has not been all that good lately but... is it really necessary to shiver like that just from seeing me?’
Jareth couldn’t help but complain in his heart after being treated like a frightening monster of some sort.
What he didn’t know was that most people in this world fear strong people.
Strong people, especially those who are considered grade-2 or above, are extremely selfish people, with many of them having a twisted personality.
Due to this, others always fear strong people in this world because it’s common knowledge that meeting a strong person is just like having to put your hand in the mouth of a crocodile.
You never know if you will still be able to ’clap’ your hands after that, as you might end up losing that hand or the entire body too.
Aside from this superstition, Jareth himself radiates an aura that causes others to feel pressured and frightened, so it was obvious he was causing everyone around him to feel fear.
...
"You are finally here; it took you a while... I thought you will be here early..."
Thomas waved his hand at Jareth and asked him to sit on the empty seat beside him.
Jareth sat down without hesitation; his face remained cold-looking as usual, but he was surprised in his heart.
"I didn’t expect that even the ’King’ himself will come to such a place all of a sudden..."
Right beside Thomas, Reynald was sitting with a calm look on his face.
He smirked at Jareth’s words and said in calm voice,
"Well, despite being a king, I am also a human being at the end of the day... I still watch sports and other stuff for entertainment..."
Jareth was surprised at Reynald’s presence, and he felt even more that there was definitely something going on; otherwise, such a situation would not happen.
"This is really an odd place to hold a meeting; out of all places, I am surprised you chose a baseball field..."
Thomas shook his head at Jareth’s words and replied in a calm tone,
"Er... no, it’s just that today is the finals for national baseball tournament and the team I like is in the finals so I couldn’t miss it..."
"It just happened that King Reynald also seems to like baseball so we decided to come here to hold the meeting... this way we can do work and enjoy at the same time..."
Jareth could only shake his head in helplessness at Thomas’s unserious way of doing things.
Thankfully, the three of them were sitting in a more secluded private area where only the highest-level people are allowed to sit and there is nobody nearby.
Moreover, it seems Reynald has already cast a voice isolation spell so that others can’t hear what they are talking about from outside.
There were already many people present, and nearly all of the seats were already full.
It would have been a bad idea to hold a meeting here if not for the fact that three of them are the type who can prevent others from spying on them.
"So, which team do you like... Truthfully speaking, I am not really into sports that much so I don’t really know much about it..."
Jareth leaned his back on the chair and spoke in his usual cold voice as he looked at the players who were entering the field one by one.
The match was about to begin soon, and Jareth had arrived just on time; otherwise, he would have missed the opening.
"Well... truthfully speaking, I only started watching sports after I reached grade-2... before that I didn’t really care about it much..."
Hearing Thomas’s words, even Reynald nodded his head and spoke.
"Yes, the same is true for me; I only got interested in sports when I reached grade-1... Before that, I was way too busy to even watch it..."
"Well, people like us who are already too strong and are already dealing with things that cause us to get stressed, have to find one or two methods to keep ourselves stable..."
"Releasing your stress is important... most wizards even marry for the same reason, as it keeps their mind from losing their sanity..."
Wizards are people who are always fighting their own inner demons, and once you reach a specific level of strength, you start losing your grip on your humanity.
The main reason why sports are even famous in this world is also because strong people like Reynald and Thomas sponsor them heavily.
Otherwise, why would anyone want to see ordinary people playing among themselves in a world filled with powerful beings and magical artifacts?
Any random knight or wizard can win a sports tournament, yet they are not allowed in this kind of tournament, and only ordinary people join them because the organizers want to keep things fair.
Those who know the truth of this world are suffering the most from living a hopeless, depressed life.
They heavily rely on these sports tournaments to preserve their sanity and prevent themselves from succumbing to corruption and miasma.
’Sigh, the longer I stay in this world, the more depressed stuff I find out about...’
In this previous world, sports were a method to entertain people, cheer them, and encourage them to become better.
But here, it’s just a method of trying to suppress the slowly rotting and dying world even for just a few more seconds.
It’s tragic, yet understandable.
"So, what did you guys ask me to come here for?"
Jareth stopped thinking further about the matter and changed the topic as he asked the main question directly.
Hearing his question, Thomas gave a wry smile and said,
"You are really good at killing the mood; I was just about to cheer for my favorite player, you know..."
"Sigh, well... I asked you to come here because King Reynald wanted to tell us about something. I am not sure about the details either..."
Reynald nodded his head at Thomas’s words; he was still looking at the players on the ground as he spoke.
"I have received some intel... a very important piece of information, in fact..."
While saying those words, Reynald head moved towards Jareth and Thomas as he stared in their eyes as he spoke in a solemn tone.
"The ’False Dome’ cult is up to something in the Wailing Hills..."
