Chapter 70: Three cheers for team Banana!

YIREN

"You could have picked a better fruit, like a strawberry or a blueberry or grapes. But no!" I grumble, tugging at the bright yellow T-shirt that proudly displays a giant comic SuperBanana with a underwear and a red cape. "Your dumb ass picked banana. This literally looks like a... well, a penis on steroid and in superman costume."

Jun throws his head back and howls with laughter, loud enough to draw everyone’s attention. I feel my cheeks burning as people glance our way, curious and amused.

"Don’t blame me, bunny," his grin unapologetic. "You’re the one who picked it."

"And you are the one who picks this stupid design."

I groan, feeling the urge to curl up and cry in the corner. If I’d known he was asking about my favorite fruit to put us in matching team T-shirts, I would have thought twice. Now, here we are, a couple of ridiculous superman bananas, complete with matching banana caps.

Jun, of course, manages to make it look good. He turns his cap backward, somehow pulling off the silly look with a confidence I can only envy. Meanwhile, I’m stuck feeling like the most embarrassed banana on the planet.

"I hate you," Then, as if to rub it in, Fei Hong struts up in a sleek red strawberry T-shirt with Zeng beside her. I pout, glancing at Jun to see how he’s reacting seeing her. But instead of glancing Hong’s way, his gaze is fixed entirely on me.

"Let’s embrace the banana life, bunny." he winks playfully. And, despite my embarrassment, I find myself laughing along with him. Bear hops around in happiness, supporting a banana jacket.

My eyes catch sight of Zian, who’s currently fumbling with his shoelaces in his team Peaches T-shirt. He looks thoroughly awkward and downright nervous standing beside an extraordinarily pretty woman. Word is he tried to make a run for it the moment he saw her, but MeiMei, ever the fierce elder sister, intercepted him with a threat: if he dared to bolt, she’d feed him to her pets.

Well..... after seeing Suyin’s terrifying pets, I have no interest to find out what kind of creatures MeiMei keeps around. Thank goodness they’re not here today, or I’d be booking the next flight back to New York.

"Alright, team! Welcome to the Pumpkin Cup!" MeiMei announces. Scarecrows, creepy ghosts, oversized spiders, and huge jack-o’-lanterns are scattered everywhere, taking over Jun’s mansion, the enormous lawn and race track. Not to mention the spooky traps lying in wait, ready to sabotage anyone who dares to let their guard down.

"The first round is simple: collect as many baby pumpkins as you can from the mud patch! The team that gathers the most gets top points and an extra minute to select the perfect pumpkin for carving competition," MeiMei continues, her little baby strapped to her front. He looks adorably curious, watching his momma with wide eyes—an expression that Jianyu mirrors as he gazes at his wife like she’s magic.

She holds up a set of shiny, coveted tickets. "Out of four teams, only one will win the ultimate prize—Taylor Swift concert VIP passes!"

My heart leaps. Wohoo, I need those passes!

Zian interrupts her, "Sis, I think you’re so sleep-deprived you missed the count. We’re five teams, not four."

MeiMei’s eyes narrow. "Zian, if you interrupt me one more time, I’ll let Vivian know that you hate green vegetables and picks it out of food like kids."

Vivian bursts into laughter, and poor Zian looks like he’s ready to climb the nearest tree and hide.

"Me and Jianyu are not playing. So, four teams only," MeiMei declares. "Also, let’s welcome our esteemed judges!"

A loud drumroll echoes across the field, and I squint to see who’s approaching. Ah, the three kids—wait, what in the world—three black panthers and a fluffy white fox? "What the—" I squeal, launching myself at Jun, clinging to him like a terrified koala. My legs wrap tightly around his waist, and my arms loop around his neck as I hold on for dear life.

"I’m not playing. I’m not playing. I. AM. NOT. PLAYING!"

Laughter erupts from all sides. Zian wheezes, barely able to contain himself. "I’ve watched the other video of you freaking out, but seeing it live is priceless! Jun, hold on to her, or she might sprint for the hills."

Jun gives him an amused side-eye. "Worry about yourself. You’re about to topple over on Vivian." Zian immediately composes himself, turning to Vivian with wide eyes.

"These pets are trained by professionals. Stop being so dramatic," Hong chimes in, only to get a subtle shake of head from Zeng.

Before I can throw a snappy comeback, Jun smirks and side-eyes Hong. Then, he looks at me with a soft smile. "Stopping the drama equals to stop being interesting. Too boring. Just keep being the drama of my life, and make me laugh. Let people bark."

OHOHOHOH! Love it!

Hong’s face turn an angry shade of red.

"Savage Jun is my favorite!"

Jun chuckles, "That’s the result of your company."

"Then we should hang out more."

"Aren’t you already?" he teases, gesturing to how I’m still wrapped around him like an oversized accessory. I feel a flush creeping up my neck as I realize how ridiculous we must look. "Besides, those pets are friendly—mostly."

"Mostly?" I tighten my grip, and Jun’s deep laughter rumbles against me, oddly soothing. I look at the pets once again, comically our Bear looks like a tiny mouse between them, showing his smile as if he isn’t a pint size snack for each of them.

Teamwork makes the dream work. Jun and I both grab our sacks and leap into the mud pool. Oh my god, it’s slippery and smells like something you’d find in the bottom of a swamp. "AH!" Jun shrieks, stumbling backward when he spots a fake spider.

I burst into laughter, receiving a fistful of mud right on face. I gasp, pretending to be outraged before scooping up a handful of my own and chucking it back at him. He fell back on his ass while trying to dodge.

"You two! Concentrate!" Honey yells from the edge of the mud patch, his little hands on his hips as he tries to act serious.

"Renren, look! I see a pumpkin over there!" Lan points, but before Hong can even think about grabbing it, I lunge for it, managing to snatch it up.

"Got it!" I cheer triumphantly, and Honey sticks his tongue out at Hong, who looks less than pleased.
