F-Rank Soul Eater-Chapter 195: The Mastermind 3
Soren had whipped out the new weapon gifted to him Li of the Lion Heart Party.
The weapon was raised to eye level— held in a back handed position.
The dim light in the room reflected off its smooth surface.
Soren’s gaze met Dr Kaya’s.
Unexpectedly, Dr Kaya stood to her feet.
—this made Soren fidget even more.
However, she waved a hand and two ceramic cups appeared from thin air.
"Which do you prefer?" She asked.
"Huh?"
"Which do you prefer, wine or tea?"
She waved a hand and a glass jug with a liquid appeared.
"You are almost of age. Wine should be good."
She poured its content in the cups.
She place some on a chair not far from Soren and then took the second one and went back to her seat.
—Sat.
Legs crossed.
—Giving Soren a gaze, no doubt expecting him to take the cup.
Soren was taken aback.
’What is she doing?’
He had expected a life or death battle. But this...
This was different.
"Go on... take your seat. You want to know what I am, don’t you?"
Soren paused, slowly lowering his blade. But still cautious.
Careful.
He took a seat not far from the cup she had placed aside for him.
Even when his ass touched the chair, he did not relax—guard up.
But Dr. Kaya did not mind.
After admitting she was the Shade Stealer, it was already a wonder that he did not just jump in for the kill.
"I am what what your kind calls Animavore."
Soren looked confused.
"Well, its Latin..." she explained.
"It means the Soul that consumes or devour. It typically happens when the will of the soulbound warrior is weak.
—And that is even rarer considering the conditions for bonding with a human in the pirate place."
"Conditions!?" Soren asked.
She nodded. "Yes. As yoi know, Shades cannot exist in this world in their true form. As far as I know, they has been only one instance of that." Her gaze leveled on him.
Soren frowned. He understood. Back when he fought Goldsworth and had been injured, Shades had been released from his body into this world.
But instead of disappearing like I was expected of their kind, they rampaged.
Shades should not be able to survive in this world without a bond, but through him they did.
Soeen had a feeling that it had something to do with Chronovore.
Besides, those shades that had escaped should not exist in this time line.
They were objects of loops, time–lines that never happened.
Soren had thought about it.
Was it possible that the nature of shades, coupled with the irregularity of a foreign entity in a different timeline, the reason those shades could roam the human world?
Or did these different situations cancel each other out, allowing for such abnormality?
He really wanted to ask. Maybe Dr Kaya would be able to help him with this dilemma.
However, this was not a person Soren trusted.
Even though she had cared for him, and gave him advice that had changed his life and his view on people.
Still, he did not trust her. And that was before he found out she was the Shade Stealer.
He had even come here with the goal of battling.
"...When unbonded humans touch the Glass, it sends out a frequency across our world.
It tells us that the possibility of leaving our dying world has arrived."
"Dying world?"
"Our world... the Glass as you call it. Is far more than you think it is. And once upon a time, it... thrived."
As she spoke, Soren saw the longing in her eyes.
"But later on, it was corrupted.... We were corrupted. And then... they came." Her fingers tightened around the cup.
Cracks formed around it. And then she stopped, controlling the rage that had been rising inside her.
Her eyes settled on the cup, fingers slowly caressing the rim.
"I was royalty, and due to the situation at that time, like many, I fled.
When I heard the call from this world, I answered.
But you see, the one that had made the call, Vasermy Kaya, of the noble Kaya family was a unique one.
"And two of us answered her call." Her gaze raised to Soren.
She could see his frown.
It was common knowledge that one person could not bond with two shades. It was not a matter of it being hard, but rather it being impossible.
One soul could not carry the load of two shades.
Cynthia’s situation had been unique—very unique.
She had a twin in her that was never born.
Soren’s eyes shone... wondering if it was the same situation, but—
"She was pregnant."
Soren leaned further from the chair.
Even he was not expecting to hear that.
"My... Mother was pregnant. Out of wedlock. She had a secret affair with a guard incharge of her estate, and did not know at the time of the Touch Glass Ceremony that she was with child.
Like I said, two souls from the glass had answered that call. While the other had bonded naturally with her.
I had bonded with the unborn in her womb. Or rather... I had become the unborn child in her womb."
Soren’s gaze widened. His shock was apparent.
He had never heard of such a thing before.
Dr. Kaya continued.
"There is a reason the Empire has age restrictions as well as other tests on humans to determine those allowed to touch the Glass.
A person needs basic understanding of good and evil, right and wrong, but most importantly, the Sense of self.
Without a sense of self, there is no soul.
Yes. Its as you think. I was able to occupy a vessel with no will, no resistance to my nature.
In fact, one could say it was home waiting to be occupied.
And so I did."
She waved her hand again and a dagger appeared.
Instantly, she made a small cut on her palm...
(Author’s note: So what do you think she wants to do now? Who can give a rough guess on Dr. Kaya’s plan?)
