Extra's Rise In Hollywood: I Can Gain Character Skills-Chapter 26: Teaching Role
Selena smiled faintly, clearly pleased by his enthusiasm. "It’s a teaching role," she explained. "The story follows a class of kids from a struggling school, and you’d be playing a supply teacher who comes in for one day and leaves a lasting impact on the students. It’s short but meaningful."
Liam’s brows shot up. "A teacher?" he echoed, a grin spreading across his face. "Wow. That’s... unexpected, but it sounds amazing. What’s the catch?"
Selena chuckled, shaking her head. "No catch. The director’s open to new faces, and I might’ve already mentioned you to him."
"You already mentioned me?" Liam asked, his surprise evident. "How’d that happen?"
Selena shrugged lightly, her smile growing. "They were looking for someone, and i just suggested you."
Liam leaned back, processing her words. "Wow," he muttered. "That’s... a lot to take in."
Selena’s tone softened as she added, "You don’t have to decide now. Just think about it, and let me know. But I honestly believe you’d be great for this part."
Liam met her gaze, his expression growing determined. "I don’t need to think about it," he said, his voice steady. "I’m in."
Selena’s smile widened, and she nodded approvingly. "Good. I’ll send you the details tonight. The filming is in a few days, so you’ve got time to prepare."
"Thanks, Selena," Liam said, his voice full of gratitude.
Selena tilted her head slightly, her eyes warm. "You are welcome. Consider that, me repaying you for the driving lessons," she said with a playful grin.
"Of course," Liam grinned.
’A teaching role, huh? This could be my shot.’
Before he could get too lost in his thoughts, a loud voice cut through the quiet air. "Hey!"
Liam jolted, snapping out of his daze.
Turning toward the voice, he immediately recognized the woman from his neighbourhood—the one with the dog he’d had an unpleasant history with.
She wasn’t walking the irritating mutt today, but her presence still carried the same energy that made Liam’s shoulders tense instinctively.
"Oh, hi," Liam said, his voice awkward as he tried to compose himself.
The woman walked closer, her eyebrows raised slightly. "I just saw you standing there like a statue. You looked totally zoned out. Are you alright?"
Liam blinked, his mind still catching up. "Oh, yeah. I’m fine," he replied quickly, scratching the back of his head. "Just... thinking about something."
She tilted her head, studying him for a moment, then nodded. "Alright, if you say so. I thought you might’ve passed out standing up or something."
Liam let out a small laugh, though it was more out of politeness than humour. "No, nothing like that. I’m good, but... uh, thanks for checking."
Her lips twitched into a faint smile, but her usual tone of slight condescension lingered. "Well, as long as you’re okay. I’ll be heading off. See you around."
"Yeah, see you," Liam said, nodding as she turned to leave.
As she walked away, Liam shook his head, muttering under his breath. "At least she didn’t have that dog with her this time," he said, the memory of the dog’s unwelcome ’incident’ making him grimace. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
...
A few days passed, and the morning of the filming day arrived. Liam stood outside the set, his nerves buzzing with a mix of excitement and uncertainty.
The entrance to the filming location was alive with activity—crew members unloading equipment, actors chatting as they sipped coffee, and the hum of trucks idling nearby.
Taking a deep breath, Liam stepped inside, his gaze sweeping over the bustling scene. The set was more elaborate than he expected, with several makeshift classrooms built to resemble a high school. Large lighting rigs and cameras were positioned strategically, while crew members adjusted props and equipment. It all felt surreal.
After a moment, he spotted a woman with a clipboard, her headset perched slightly askew as she juggled a cup of coffee in one hand and a walkie-talkie in the other. She looked like she knew her way around the chaos.
"Excuse me," Liam said, stepping forward with a polite smile. "Sorry to bother you, but this is my first day here, and I’m trying to figure out where I need to go."
The woman glanced up, her brow furrowing slightly as she scanned him. "First day?" she asked. "What’s your role?"
"Uh, I’m playing the substitute teacher," Liam said, adjusting his stance slightly. "The director told me to be here, but I’m not sure where to check in."
The woman nodded, tapping her clipboard with the edge of her pen. "Got it. You’re with the extras group," she said. She pointed toward a section of the set where several people were gathered near a row of folding chairs. "Hang out there for now. The director’s about to arrive, so things are going to get started soon."
"Thanks," Liam said, giving her a grateful nod before heading in the direction she indicated.
As he approached the group, Liam noticed that most of the other extras were chatting casually, some looking more comfortable than others.
A few glanced at him briefly before returning to their conversations, clearly absorbed in their own pre-shoot rituals. Liam found an empty chair and sat down, setting his bag beside him as he took in the scene.
The energy on set was palpable, a mixture of focused determination and organized chaos. Crew members moved with purpose, adjusting lights and setting up camera angles, while assistants shuffled back and forth with scripts and notes.
Liam couldn’t help but feel a little out of place. While he’d had a small taste of being on set before, this felt different—more structured, more professional. He shifted in his seat, his mind buzzing with anticipation.
"Alright, everyone, listen up!" a voice called out, cutting through the noise.
Liam turned to see a man in his late forties entering the set, his stride confident.
"Good morning," the director said, his tone brisk but not unkind. "I’m Aiden Foster, the director of this project. Thank you all for being here today. We’ve got a lot to get through, so let’s keep things moving smoothly."
