Extra's Path To Demon King-Chapter 170: A Wargame…
Chapter 170: A Wargame...
He added further, "Till now, all the sections have received equal resources and facilities and benefits, but that will change. Based on this test’s evaluation, all the sections will now have proper rankings; the section coming last will have the least benefits, and the section coming first will have the most benefits. If this, now called the gold section, cannot retain its first position, it will be renamed, and the section that comes first will then be named the gold section."
He showed a rare smile and added, "Now that you all know how high the stakes are, let’s talk about how exactly the evaluation will be held and based on what criteria’s. Some of you may or may not have guessed this, but this will basically be a competition between each of the sections, in a tournament format."
Axel smiled. He knew exactly how the competition would be held; it would basically be a mini war game of sorts. The professor’s words mirrored his statement.
"Well, you all might be wondering that, each section has 300 Seekers each, so what kind of competition will it be? And yes, it will be 300 vs 300. When two sections face off against each other. It will be like a small-scale wargame of sorts." Darwin revealed.
All the students were shocked to hear that, even Heinz and Lucien, a flicker of interest also sparked in the eyes of the mighty summoned heroine herself. Thorian Blackvale, who was in the gold section as well, narrowed his eyes, clearly excited.
But the Seekers who were not so remarkable became tense; they were having a feeling of confusion, and the weak were truly helpless in this world. The professor explained further in detail, "It is a war of two fortresses fighting each other. It’s called the Fortress Wargame. It’s a popular method for training soldiers, and with this, you will gain a very rudimentary idea about how wars are fought on a very limited scale."
"Each section will be in charge of one fortress and have to do two rounds. Once you must defend against the enemy fortress as they attack, then your fortress will be the one doing the attack on the enemy fortress that is defending."
"This is one of the most complex evaluation systems, just perfect for a real situation. In reality, a powerful enemy will not face you one to one fairly; your enemy could have allies hiding in ambush, they could have more artifacts than you, they could have stronger artifacts than you."
"This is something in which all 300 of you will have to work as a team, working as one large entity while each different Seeker does what they are good at, everyone must play their part perfectly, whether weak or strong. Whether you are from a noble family, a merchant, or a royal, even a commoner, does not matter."
"You will have to cast all differences aside, in the face of death, on the battlefield filled with blood and destruction of your comrades and enemies alike. Such social differences won’t matter anymore," he stated, the reality of the world, how the world would seem, when death draws near.
He sighed for a moment, and looked at his students who were seem to have a very serious expression on their faces, at least most of them, but he could easily see some of the smiling ones, barely able to hide their excitement, those who were strong and confident naturally felt excited, but the weak ones felt the veil of uncertainty and failure loom over their heads.
He continued again, "Now this is a game which will evaluate a section as a whole team, but it will also be used for your personal evaluation, for example how you can perform in your particular job in the presence of crisis according to your judgement and ability will be taken into consideration when giving you a personal evaluation."
"So, all of you whether weak or strong, you will be judged within your own personal criteria, for example an Alchemists job is not to fight in the front lines or engage in combat, that persons job is to constantly create and supply various pills and potions, that would keep the soldiers going and fighting. For that reason, all of you must do your best."
"Because the personal evaluation, as stated, will not be judged on your combat proficiency rather your worth as a strategic asset. How well you can perform in a complicated but real situation, and that is what matters."
The professor explained some more about the various specifics. Still, most of the students didn’t understand those things completely, and he knew that it would be like that, so Darwin handed a sheet of paper to everyone on which the details related to the war fortress game were written on both sides.
Axel more or less knew about how the competition is done, mimicking the real situations and tension as much as possible. He still did an overall read of it, unlike him, everyone else was reading the rules and regulations of the fortress game with a serious face.
After everyone was done reading the details for 5 minutes, Professor Darwin dismissed everyone, saying that he would show the mechanics of it to everyone in practice the next day. And all the other classes were also canceled until the 1st sectional evaluation is over.
They all went out of the class after that. Lumina and Vyra were both waiting for him outside. Lumina snorted at him,
"Hmph, I guess you’ve advanced to the late stage, you’ve become ugly."
He said jokingly, "Oh, have I become too handsome for you?"
In response to that, she looked at him in disgust, but he only laughed dismissively and said,
"Anyway, call Lucien, I need to talk to him, and let’s go to the engraving room."
Heinz mocked, "It was supposed to be a place for research and engraving of runic sorcery, but you turned it into your personal gossip hall, tsk tsk."
Axel snorted, "Yeah, show me a more secure place, and I’ll go there."
Lumina interjected, "Why do I need to call Lucien?"
He sighed, "Just bring him, I’ll explain it all at once when we go there."
Lumina nodded with some reluctance. She went in a certain direction to bring her older brother, Axel, turned to Vyra and said, "Were you successful in making those potions?"
She smiled cheerfully, "How did you even know about those things? It’s almost a new..."
Before she could finish the sentence, Axel stopped her. "We can talk in detail after we go to the engraving room."
She nodded and made the motion of zipping her mouth. Things could get pretty troublesome if any random student were to hear any of their talks. For a moment, Axel thought whether he should bring Thorian Blackvale and Enrick Samartan in as well. But then decided against it; he did prepare two weapons for them as well, but they weren’t as good as the ones he made for Vyra, Lumina, Heinz, and Lucien.
So, he should give their made artifacts to them later on. He saw Lumina and Lucien coming towards them together; they seemed to be talking, but Axel could clearly see that they were bickering. Lumina, unlike her usual self, had become much more talkative and a bickering machine while spending time with him a lot, as they constantly insulted each other. He scratched his head. So, maybe he was a bad influence on her; in that case, it was understandable that Lucien would hate him for turning his sweet little sister into an argument machine of sorts that refused to back down from any talks.
