Chapter 155: The Principal [4]

Slowly, the discussion between Axel and the principal was coming to an end. From what Axel understood, his grandfather was a very good friend of Alric Stragoy, as they had both been classmates at the academy together once. At that time, the status of his Nomrad family was even worse; they were barely notable, more like a commoner’s family, but with a bit more money, nothing more and nothing less.

As for the principal, he was an orphan coming from the slums, not knowing who his parents were, or he didn’t even have anyone to support. Because of both of their more or less miserable situation without any support, they hit it off together pretty well in the academy.

And he blamed himself quite a lot for not being able to directly help his family for the crisis it was facing, but he did promise that unless the Dusker’s took a drastic step, nothing would happen to his family from the arrangements he made, so he simply urged Axel to focus on growing stronger while being in the academy, because he might not get such a chance to grow as strong as possible while being in such a safe environment.

Axel naturally agreed on that note without hesitation. Axel also reassured the mighty being that he shouldn’t feel responsible for what happened to his mother. The principal also revealed another information,

"The Vex family was also likely someone behind that incident, since their downfall was largely because of Damien."

"Of course, of course, is that why Taser is so adamantly against me?? Of course, it would make sense that he was so much against me. Could it be that this incident was what Taser did because of his family’s instructions?" Axel asked himself, mumbling in slight shock.

Alric disagreed, "No, I don’t think so, for someone as talented as Taser, doing something like this would have only ensured his downfall, because we would have caught him one way or the other. This incident had no real chance of doing anything bad to you, except for damning your reputation a bit."

He asked the powerhouse with a frown, "So, what exactly will you do with him?"

Alric sighed, "I’m afraid we are unable to do any forceful interrogation on him without informing his family, and if we do that, much of the news within the academy will go out to the outside world, the Duskers and the Vex family will learn of your real talent."

"As such, we will give him some kind of limiting punishment, for the duration of the academy, nothing more can be done for now, without contacting his family."

The principal thought for a moment to himself, then asked with some obvious hesitation,

"Axel, can I ask about what happened that day?"

"You mean the day my mother died?" asked Axel with a bitter expression.

Alric nodded, "I know it’s the most sensitive topic, but I can’t help but ask about it."

"I’m sorry, but I don’t remember, perhaps seeing my mother’s death was a bit too much for me, that my brain was unable to handle it, so I went into coma, as I came back, I didn’t remember how it happened, unfortunately or fortunately, I guess."

Alric nodded, though he could clearly see that it wasn’t likely the whole truth, but he tactfully chose not to press on; there was another thing he desperately wanted to know, as such, he asked,

"Axel, you know something about your grandfather, your family must have some idea of where he might be? Right?"

Axel shook his head with a sad smile, "As much as I would love to tell you where he could be, or know where he might be, I don’t. I only know that he is most likely alive, but even unsure if that is even true or not. But as for where he could be, I have no idea. If anyone has any clues, it’s likely my father, but I doubt even he knows of it."

Alric placed a hand on his face at that comment, and he rubbed his forehead in frustration. It seems the powerhouse had some great expectations that he could find some clue as to where his old friend might be. But it turned out to be a dead end. They said a few more pleasantries to each other and bid farewell.

As Axel left the front building of the academy, going back towards his lodging, he had a neutral expression on his face as he scoffed internally at the principal, this entire thing could have been total act, since there was nothing like this ever mentioned in the story he read, no even if something was indeed in the story, there were multiple events where that kind of information turned out to be wrong. Aside from hard facts that he finds and checks himself, he would trust nothing; he could trust nothing.

The entire thing about the principal being a very close friend to his grandfather could be some kind of ploy to get information on his grandfather or something. So, he pretty much took the contents of their whole meeting with a pinch of salt.

Now that he thought about it carefully, the only useful thing he gained from this entire conversation was knowing that the Vex family was also related to the incident of his mother’s assault. He frowned. That’s right, those powerful Seekers alongside the Dusker duchess at that time, were they from the Vex family perhaps? Yes, it was entirely possible.

As a family of runecasters, they could erase all the traces of their involvement, using various artifacts and such. They perhaps also used their artifacts only for erasing or covering their traces or involvement; otherwise, it would make things just that obvious.

He sighed and entered a certain room in his apartment. As he opened the door, the familiar smell of magical weapons, metal, burned runes, mana going haywire, in multiple flavors. It was obviously his personal engraving room and forging room built together as one, right in his apartment. It was quite expensive, to say the least. But it was so damn worth it.
