Extra's Path To Demon King-Chapter 148: Finding the Culprit

After a while, both Lucien and Heinz retracted their respective aura’s, its not that the mass of students opposite to them could not apply their own pressure in the surroundings, but they could not entirely affect so many people, not to mention spread it around such a wide area, the few who were strong enough to actually be able to do such a thing remained outside of such conflicts only enjoying the show with amusement from the sidelines.

Axel finally stepped forward and amplified his voice with his mana,

"Everyone, let’s not escalate this conflict any further. I know that all of you want to see the culprit behind this incident to be thoroughly punished, and so do I, and I understand that, from your point of view that I most likely am the person responsible for this. But I am not."

He continued after a small pause, "But even if I am not behind this, since these are my rune engraved tools, and that someone was able to bypass them and do such a commotion is something I am deeply ashamed of, as such it is also my responsibility to find the culprit behind it, and I know the perfect way to find it."

"And I hope you’re all willing to oblige, or would you want the real culprit to remain unpunished? Getting what he wants? I definitely would not want that, you know."

A long silence descended on the noisy central grounds after that claim of Axel, most of the students decided to actually consider his idea as his words were very much true, of course those at front leading the charge against Axel vehemently tried to persuade everyone to do the opposite and not listen to his ploys, In the end Lucien suggested that they all vote.

And as expected, most of them decided to do it peacefully and see the solution Axel suggested. After that was finalized, Axel brought out a certain artifact from his space ring and then wore it. He walked up one step after another, and everyone saw, utterly dumbfounded, how Axel was stepping into the air and ascending higher. When he was 5 meters high in the sky and everyone was able to see him clearly again, he stated, as his voice amplified,

"Now many of you may or may not know this but, the runes I engraved as a runecaster, only another runecaster can hamper it like that, no other form of magic can make such a delayed defect in it, after the first few days in which you got the artifacts, there were no problems right?"

All of them nodded, looking above towards Axel. He continued,

"If any other mage other than a runecaster tried to make any sort of modifications in it forcefully, the rune would immediately dissolve, or in the worst case, explode. It is something that cannot be delayed as well, unless the tinkering is something that is done by a Runecaster, that is."

"One more thing, after a runic tool is successfully made, the one who made it cannot modify it any further, any sort of editing attempt from the person who made it will result in the engraved or completed rune to be dissolved into nothing every time without exception, this is absolute and something impossible, unless you’re a 5th phase runecaster or above."

"And Professor Alfred, the one in charge of teaching Runic Sorcery, can attest to this truth."

The moment his words finished, Professor Alfred appeared in the sky right beside Axel, as if he was right there from the very beginning, but simply appeared in everyone’s perception or allowed everyone to sense him on Axel’s proclamation.

"Axel is right, it is not possible to hamper an already engraved rune in a usable weapon, by the very runecaster who has engraved it."

Axel added, using that very opportunity, "So, even if I wanted, I wouldn’t be able to do something like that, directly or indirectly."

"So, what I am trying to imply is that, out of the 1200 academy students, there are only 12 runecasters in total, me included. So, the culprit is definitely one of the other 11 runecasters, unless some expert runecaster from outside came and did such a thing, and that naturally is impossible, don’t you think so? Taser?"

By this point, cold sweat was pouring down Taser’s face, and he was horrified. How is that possible? For a moment, he wanted to deny the claims that a runecaster could not in any way modify his already engraved weapon. How is that possible? he never actually tried to do that; in fact, the idea never even occurred to him. But if that was but a lie from them to attempt and fish out the real culprit,

’Damn it, damn it, damn it, damn it, fuck you AXEL NOMRAD.’

With a lot of hell power, Taser barely held in the storm and rage that was overflowing in his heart, he wanted nothing more than to literally tear Axel apart. He eventually said with a stoic expression,

"Well, from what I know, it is indeed impossible for anyone outside to enter the island of the academy, and let alone do such an audacious thing."

He asked the professor at this moment out of desperation, "Professor, we all know Axel is the most talented runecaster in our generation, he is far more talented than even all 11 other runecasters combined, as such is it not possible for him to simply bypass those things which are not possible for a normal runecaster?"

Alfred shook his head, "No, he can’t do such a thing, because that would outright defy the restrictions of the world Will. Even if he had the same legendary runic eyes that his grandfather Damien Nomrad possessed, even then, he would not be able to remodify an already engraved rune at this level of power. It is but impossible."

Taser’s expression sank as he looked towards the first prince, Luther, who stared at him in similar apprehension, and in the distance were those who were watching the show; another big perpetrator of this was there, Ken Dusker. Axel, who was high in the sky, kept his gaze intently locked on Taser. He was almost 80-90% sure by now that it was him.

Simply because no one else but that guy is even capable of doing such a thing.

Axel explained in detail, "So, this is how we will find out who is responsible for this incident. First of all, I will engrave 12 weapons right in front of all of you. After the rune engraving is completed, I will try to modify it myself; you all can see for yourself if I can indeed modify it again or not."

"With that tested, there will be 11 remaining engraved weapons of mine, and all 11 runecasters will try and modify them in their own way. Depending on the mana signature and engraving methods of each runecaster, my engraved runes will fall out differently for each Runecaster. You all can see how my engraved rune dissolves for each different person."

"Due to the mechanics of Runic sorcery itself, a rune will always break in a certain manner for each individual trying to modify it."

At this moment, Professor Alfred spoke again, "That’s right, and because someone needs to be a judge on this whole procedure to ensure no underhanded tricks are committed, I will be overseeing the entire ordeal. Hence, my reason for being here. To simply be Judge, not a supporting pillar for Axel Nomrad, so all of you can rest assured, we will definitely find the culprit without a doubt."
