At night.
Amid the ruins of the convention venue, the chaotic battle continued.
Suddenly, numerous colorful lights appeared in the distance, illuminating almost half the sky, followed by faint energy fluctuations signaling a fierce battle among wizards.
Richard glanced and withdrew his attention, already enlightened: it seemed the wizards who were drawn away probably couldn’t return; the situation at the venue wouldn’t likely improve. The only way to ensure safety was to take action, possibly with full force.
That meant exposing many hidden aces he had kept secret. If the wizard from the Jungle Hut came to know of it, his identity could be under suspicion.
But it no longer mattered; given the actions of Deep Blue Castle, the entire scenario on the East Coast was bound to change drastically. His identity, a minor issue, would hardly garner much attention. Just as in the face of a flood threatening to drown a house, a sane person wouldn’t worry about whether the faucet was tightly closed.
Thinking so, Richard felt the Cat Slave Girl, Heidi, slightly squeezing his hand and turning to him with a look of helplessness, "Mr. Richard, what do we do now?"
"Don’t worry, there won’t be any problem," Richard reassured the Cat Slave Girl, Heidi. Compared to Heidi’s nervousness, he was much calmer. Having made a decision, he had mulled over various strategies and developed multiple plans. The ongoing chaotic battle wasn’t targeted solely at him; the enemy’s strength wasn’t overwhelmingly dominant, and many wizards were vigorously resisting, making it feasible to achieve safety.
Heidi, lacking Richard’s confidence, continuously scanned their surroundings, observing every wizard and Black Robed Man engaged in combat, her body tensed. She wanted to help, but considering her meager abilities, she feared causing more trouble than help and refrained.
Turning again to Richard, almost pleadingly, she asked, "Mr. Richard, are we really going to be okay? We won’t die, will we?"
"Really, there won’t be any problem," Richard whispered softly, surveying his surroundings, "I’ll make sure you don’t get hurt. What we need to do now is see if we can help the others."
"Hmm?" Heidi was confused by Richard’s words amid her anxiety.
Richard didn’t explain further but asked, "Do you remember where your teacher and your senior sister were previously in the venue?"
"This..." Heidi tried to recall and pointed towards a direction in the darkness, "It seems to be over there."
"That’s good," Richard nodded, "Let’s go check it out together."
As he spoke, Richard’s eyes underwent a transformation.
His pupils constricted suddenly, his eyes whitening before a faint crimson and pale blue glow enveloped his eyeballs like a membrane.
Spell·Dark Vision!
Spell·Gaze Eye!
With the casting of the two spells, Richard’s vision radically changed, seeing every corner clearly, understanding the battlefield better than anyone.
Considering the mana consumption of Gaze Eye, Richard didn’t dare waste time and said to Heidi, "Follow me," and pulled her towards the distance.
"Puff puff puff!"
Along the way, after continuously defeating several Black Robed Men, Heidi, somewhat belatedly realizing, asked, "Mr. Richard, are we going to save my senior sister and teacher now?"
"Your teacher probably doesn’t need my help; she’s strong enough to protect herself; I mainly want to check if your senior sister, Narlyd, might be in trouble."
"Oh," Heidi nodded, about to say something when suddenly Richard interrupted her.
"Shh!"
Richard placed his finger on Heidi’s lips, signaling her to be silent.
Heidi’s eyes fixed on the finger touching her lips. Her body stiffened slightly as she quickly pursed her lips. Although she really wanted to ask, "What happened?" she managed to hold back, glancing restlessly at Richard.
At that moment, Richard squinted towards one side, where a Wizard Apprentice was struggling against a Black Robed Man with a longsword. Due to lesser strength, the apprentice already bore wounds and was not far from defeat or death.
The Black Robed Man, clearly aware of this, accelerated his attack, manipulating several black vines that lashed toward the Wizard Apprentice like iron whips.
The Wizard Apprentice kept retreating, gasping for breath, as he was pushed to the brink of desperation.
The next moment, something even worse happened. In the midst of retreating, the Wizard Apprentice lost his footing and suddenly fell to the ground. Seizing the opportunity, the Black Robed Man sneered and swung his vine-like whip high, preparing to lash the Wizard Apprentice’s body into pieces.
Upon seeing this, the Wizard Apprentice’s face turned ashen.
Just then, Richard suddenly made his move, flinging his arm and sending a piece of White Jade flying from his sleeve, whistling towards the Black Robed Man’s back.
The Black Robed Man, clearly always alert to his surroundings, heard the sound of the wind breaking behind him. Temporarily abandoning his intent to kill the Wizard Apprentice, he swiftly turned around, controlling the vine to entangle the incoming object. Bringing it in front of his eyes for a closer look, he saw it was merely a thin piece of jade and scorned it for its lack of offensive capability.
"Humph!"
The Black Robed Man grunted, ready to discard the piece offhand when suddenly, with a loud "boom," the White Jade exploded, engulfing his body in flames.
"Ah!"
The Black Robed Man let out a dreadful scream as he turned into a human torch, rolling on the ground several times, but unable to extinguish the special flames produced by the spell and continued to scream in agony.
After a few seconds of screaming, the Black Robed Man lay motionless, and the air filled with the foul stench of burning flesh.
By now the battlefield had descended into chaos, with killing and death occurring at every corner, so no one paid any heed to this scene.
Only the fallen Wizard Apprentice slowly got to his feet, his harrowing ordeal just behind him, when he suddenly saw something and cried out in surprise, "Lord Richard!"
"Hmm," Richard replied, nodding lightly as he turned to the somewhat pale-faced Gro and asked, "Are you alright?"
"Er, I’m okay."
"That’s good. Stick with me, it’s safer."
"Okay." Gro immediately came closer.
Richard then asked Gro, "Where’s Nancy? Isn’t she with you?"
"Er, she seems to be over there..." Gro pointed towards the distance, but before he could finish his sentence, Richard cut him off.
Richard’s eyes followed the direction Gro was pointing, a faint light flashing within as he quickly locked onto a target.
"Got it, follow me!"
Richard said, swiftly moving towards the distance.
Heidi and Gro quickly followed.
In the distance, Nancy was also fighting with a Black Robed Man.
Unlike Gro, Nancy was overpowering the Black Robed Man. She continually applied spells to enhance her speed and strength and, with her superb swordsmanship, she truly resembled a Female Sword Saint.
After a few exchanges, the Black Robed Man realized Nancy’s strength, trying to gain distance, and with a wave of his hand, shot more than ten Ice Cones towards her.
Nancy saw them and snorted coldly. With a swing of her longsword, she enveloped and shattered the Ice Cones with a "whoosh." Then, with a step, she charged at the Black Robed Man, doubling her speed.
The Black Robed Man, slightly panicked, waved his hand to release Flames in an attempt to hinder Nancy.
Nancy let out a clear shout, and purple Energy appeared on her sword blade. With a forceful slash, she dispersed the Flames.
With one step, an adept lunge, she successfully got in front of the Black Robed Man, raising her sword blade, ready to slay the Black Robed Man on the spot.
Just then, a dark flash suddenly struck her, causing her to grunt and fly backward.
