Exploring Technology in a Wizard World-Chapter 1312 - 1310: Decision
A few seconds later.
Suddenly, the sound of battle erupted in the alley, followed by the explosion of a spell.
A dozen seconds later.
"Swish!"
A person covered in blood dashed out of the alley, frantically fleeing toward the outskirts of the city.
The next moment, a streak of black light whistled close, "pfft," piercing through his body, pinning him to a shaky stone building wall, precisely a javelin inscribed with a magic rune.
"Tap tap tap..."
Two Magic Knights appeared and approached, one of them pulling the javelin out of the corpse, inspecting it and finding no significant damage, wiping the blood stains with the body’s clothes, and placing it back into a special bag on his back.
Afterward, the Magic Knight glanced at the somewhat disheveled Alliance soldiers and wizards who had rushed out of the alley, nodded slightly without saying anything, and turned to leave.
The night grew deeper, and as the Alliance invested more troops, the street fighting in Kasha City gradually approached its end.
...
Night.
Outside Kasha City, the Soma Alliance army’s temporary camp, the command room.
The White Robed Staff Kun Darsie walked in, glanced at the people inside the command room, and quickly approached Soron, who was standing in front of the sand table, reporting, "General, following your instructions, I personally went down to understand the situation. The street battle just ended, and our people have basically cleared away the remaining enemies in the city. For safety reasons, we will use another day tomorrow to search the entire city, find the wounded and deserters that may be hiding, and then we can safely take over."
"That’s good news." Soron nodded slightly after hearing this.
"Yes, it’s good news," the White Robed Staff said, then pursed his lips, "But there’s somewhat of an imperfection... Our old rival—General Long Deshitaide is missing. There are military reports that claim to have met and severely injured him, almost killing him, but we haven’t found his body.
I suspect he was either secretly taken out of the city or dealt with by the Sika people, as they absolutely wouldn’t want to leave his body for us.
This isn’t too bad except that I’m afraid our previous military reports might be somewhat inaccurate, and he isn’t actually dead but hasn’t left the city and might be hiding inside.
If that’s true, with his influence, the entire city of Kasha’s residents might oppose us, and we can’t actually massacre the city—the uncertainties it brings are too many, making it difficult for us to stay in Kasha City peacefully."
"This is indeed an issue." Soron pondered, "We’re not afraid of him being dead, nor alive, but the unknown status makes it tricky. After all, the most detestable thing in war is uncertainty; we need to find a way to clarify it..."
Just as he was saying this, Soron paused, sensing something, looking towards the door, and the White Robed Staff followed his gaze.
The next moment, someone hurried in carrying a wooden box.
The White Robed Staff recognized him—Nate, a very young staff in the command room with noble status, mainly involved in this war for the purpose of "gilding."
However, he didn’t have much noble temperament, and his ability was barely passable, so he wasn’t excluded in the command room. Nonetheless, his relationship with everyone wasn’t too close, having no real friends, fitting the transparent human type.
A little while ago, during the street battle at night, he might have seen the advantage being too significant, found it not too dangerous, and proactively suggested going into the city to participate in the battle, a means for "gilding"—after all, it’s better than just sitting in the command room.
As he was a transparent human, easily ignored, he was allowed out to "count heads." It was unknown why he suddenly returned with a box.
"Nate, is there something?" Soron asked, looking at him.
"General." He responded, his expression carrying a hint of barely concealed excitement. With trembling hands, he opened the wooden box, revealing a human head for all in the command room to see, "General, I’ve found our opponent’s leader, Long Deshitaide’s body, inside the city. When I discovered it, two Sika soldiers were trying to bury him in a collapsed building.
I killed those two soldiers and chopped off his head to bring back. I think displaying it could severely demoralize the remaining Sika army!
Then we could seize the opportunity to utterly crush the remaining Sika resistance and win this war. What do you think?"
Soron blinked his eyes, not immediately answering, and instead turned his head to the White Robed Staff beside him, asking, "Mr. Kun, what do you think?"
"I..." The White Robed Staff thought for a moment before speaking, "I appreciate Nate’s perspective. General, you previously mentioned that the most detestable thing in war is uncertainty. Now that we’ve found our old rival Long Deshitaide’s head, the uncertainty is removed, and it’s time for a decisive strike.
We’ve occupied Kasha City, which is at a transportation hub. We should fully leverage this advantage, striking hard before the Sika people fully react and completely crush them."
Soron nodded slightly and then looked around at the others in the command room, asking, "How about the rest of you, gentlemen? Any thoughts?"
The rest of the staff and civil servants answered almost simultaneously, with about half agreeing to attack while momentum was on their side. The remaining half, with differing suggestions, thought it would be better to display Long Deshitaide’s head, allowing the Sika Kingdom to fully absorb the information for a few days, while the Alliance army also rested for a few days before striking.
After listening to everyone, Soron pursed his lips, glanced around, and made a decision: "In that case, carry on with this plan: Notify the army to take turns resting under the primary level alert. You quickly draft new plans. Once the right opportunity comes, execute immediately."
Pausing here, Soron glanced at the box in Nate’s hands and softly said, "As for Long Deshitaide’s head, there’s no need to show it to the Sika people. Just tell them that Long Deshitaide died in battle.
He fought against us for many years in the Sika army, and though he indeed earned our enmity, he was also a respectable adversary. Let’s not be petty, give him a proper burial. Of course, Nate, your contribution is acknowledged, and you have indeed made a service for the Alliance; it won’t forget."
"Uh..." Nate responded, his expression slightly peculiar.
"That’s settled then. I’m going to rest now. If there’s an emergency, notify me immediately. Otherwise, collaborate on the new plans, and hopefully, when I’m back from resting, there will be multiple completed plans for me to choose from." Soron waved and walked out of the command room.
The staff in the command room shrugged but didn’t say much, accustomed to the busy atmosphere, as they began drafting plans, awaiting Soron’s return.
