Chapter 37: Ch-37: Rina Roshfield

"Hmph," Victor snorted as he read the information. In his opinion, they were all seeking death. Due to his One with Lightning skill, he was completely immune to their attacks, so no matter how many players they brought, they could not harm him unless they brought a Tier 1 player or NPC.

As soon as he entered deeper into the building, he saw the entire place was bustling with NPCs and players. Most of them were wearing masks and cloaks to hide their identities, as it was very common that after leaving the auction hall, others who were also interested in the items they obtained would ambush them. Some, however—like a few NPCs—did not bother hiding their identities, as they were accompanied by guards or had confidence in their own strength.

Victor, using his pupil technique, noticed that there were guards dressed up as participants to prevent people from causing trouble in the auction.

"I need to check if you have enough money," one of the guards said.

"Sure," Victor said as he handed him a satchel he had brought from the warehouse, filled with various treasures and gold coins.

The man’s eyes widened for a moment upon seeing the amount of wealth he had brought and he swallowed hard.

"This young noble, you can enter the VIP section," the man said as he stepped aside and spoke respectfully. In his opinion, only a noble could possess such wealth.

Victor walked and entered the place. The first thing he saw were two staircases—one leading upwards toward the chambers above, which were reserved for VIPs, and the other leading down toward the auditorium, which had hundreds of seats.

Without much thought, he chose the staircase leading down. As this was the first auction he was attending in this new life, he preferred to enjoy it up close.

Victor was noticed by many as he walked through the area, drawing some glances, but everyone ignored him the next moment when they saw that Victor proceeded to the auditorium. However, on a floor above with a view of the reception, a person looked at Victor with a very different interest than the others.

"Young Miss, why do you even want to participate in this low-class auction?" a woman wearing a maid uniform asked with irritation. She was very attractive and had a voluptuous figure, which many of the men in the room could not help but glance at. Many of the people in the VIP room bristled upon hearing this and were about to say something, but the maid narrowed her eyes, and everyone, feeling her aura, froze and looked at her in terror.

"I just felt like it. You know how much I like attending auctions—what if I find something unexpected?" the young lady said with a charming smile, which caused many of the men to skip a heartbeat.

"Emily, I just saw something interesting. I’m going downstairs," she spoke as her ruby-colored eyes glowed through the holes of her white mask, which was different from the others.

"Young Miss, you shouldn’t," Emily said with frustration, as someone of her status sitting with these so-called important people in the VIP room was already beneath her, and now she was going down to mingle with commoners. Even though reluctant, she could not stop her and followed closely behind like an obedient maid.

Victor entered the auditorium where the main event would be held—an open space with dozens of chairs and tables, where people could serve themselves with drinks and food, which were delivered invisibly to whoever ordered.

Around the place, there were several open rooms on the upper floor, like podiums, where VIP guests—the most powerful and wealthiest participants—stayed, a symbol of ostentation and power that some liked to display.

Victor did not care about his status, so he sat among the primary audience, taking a seat in a corner and waiting for the auction to start, while more and more people filled the place. If Edward had been with him, he would have surely grumbled that he should not sit here with commoners, as it was not befitting of his status as a Warlock and a noble.

Suddenly, he noticed someone staring intensely at him, and then saw the same person walking toward him. She was a woman with a figure like a succubus, full of curves in the right places and with ample breasts. He could see her carefully maintained blonde hair, while she wore a dress that highlighted her figure. Her face had an angelic beauty that surpassed any other woman he had ever seen. He also noticed a maid accompanying her; even though she was less beautiful, she was still top-tier.

She didn’t even ask Victor—she simply grabbed a chair near him and sat down without permission. Victor narrowed his eyes at the elegant woman as she stared at him intensely. A sweet scent filled his nose.

"May I know why you are here?" Victor broke the silence.

She didn’t seem offended by his questioning tone and lack of respect; instead, she smiled with her red lips and seemed even more interested in Victor.

Victor used his Eyes of Truth and Fate on the maid and the woman who seemed like a noble.

[Name: Emily]

[Level: 305]

[Tier: 3]

[Affiliation: Maid of the Roshfield Duchy of the Kingdom of Eindrik]

[Name: Rina Roshfield]

[Level: 211]

[Tier: 2]

[Affiliation: Eldest Daughter of the Duke of Roshfield Duchy]

"Roshfield Duchy..." Victor was surprised, as he knew the Roshfield Duchy was one of the four duchies of the Eindrik Kingdom. His body stiffened when he saw their levels, which were far higher than his. He cursed himself for not showing proper manners, as he knew nobles tended to take offense due to a lack of respect, and he was too weak—his lightning immunity would not help him, as he would be crushed like a bug. Sure enough, the next second, what he feared happened.

"You shouldn’t speak to Miss Rina without respect. She is a Warlock and a noble—mind your manners," Emily said as she narrowed her eyes in displeasure at Victor and was about to intimidate him with her aura.

’Shit’ Victor’s nerves tensed as he was about to turn into lightning to flee, as he knew he had no chance of defeating her.

"Stand down, Emily," Rina’s eyes narrowed as she ordered in a commanding tone.

Even though Emily was reluctant, she obeyed. "Yes."

"I apologize on her behalf," Rina said.

"It’s fine," Victor said calmly.

"Hmm, now can I ask you something? What is a fellow Warlock like you doing in this place?" Rina said calmly, and Victor’s eyes shrank to pinpricks while Emily looked at Victor in shock.

"What? A Warlock?" Emily exclaimed as she looked at Victor in disbelief. She knew how rare Warlocks were, and most of them belonged to noble families. A thought popped into her head. ’Could this guy be a Warlock in disguise?’

Victor calmed his tense nerves and asked as he narrowed his eyes, "How did you know I am a Warlock? I am sure I have not met you before or let anyone know."

"Guess," Rina said with a giggle.

"..." Victor, hearing her reply, gritted his teeth. He had read about this kind of reply in famous web novels in his past life and always found it amusing how the protagonist would feel irritated and angry at it—but now, experiencing it firsthand, he could not help but feel irritated as well.

"No need to get angry, I was joking. The reason I know is that it’s my Warlock ability, which helps me detect Warlock bloodlines," Rina said casually.

"Young Miss, you can’t casually reveal your abilities," Emily chided.

"Oh? Do you think everyone does not know what kind of Warlock abilities my family has?" Rina retorted.

"But Miss, you were traveling undercover, and now you revealed your identity," Emily said with frustration, then narrowed her eyes at Victor. "You should have guessed her identity by now, right?"

"The young lady of the Roshfield Duchy," Victor said calmly.

"You guessed it right. Now, can you deactivate your disguise? I want to see your true appearance," Rina said with a glint as she saw Victor’s expression change.

"What? This guy is in disguise?" Emily was startled and then focused intently on Victor’s face, but her brows furrowed when she could not find any flaws.

"I prefer not showing my true face," Victor said calmly, as he had already been exposed so he decided to accept it.

"Is that so? No problem. It does not matter—if I encounter you in the future, I should be able to recognize you by your unique Warlock bloodline signature, which I can detect."

"..." Victor did not say anything and just looked at her with a calm expression, but inwardly he was screaming at her annoying ability’ Damn, what a troublesome ability, this must be nemesis of all spies’

Victor and the girls looked at the stage where the auctioneer appeared.
