Eternal Undying Chronicles-Chapter 201: One Fated For Disaster
The helicopter barely managed to stay aloft, its rotors struggling against the shockwave of the impact below. The air trembled with the aftermath of the battle, and every gust threatened to send the fragile aircraft spiraling downward. Inside, the cameraman clutched his equipment tightly, keeping the lens fixed on the chaos unfolding beneath them.
His knuckles were white, his breath shallow, but he refused to look away.
The city was in confusion, its people paralyzed by fear and uncertainty. Just hours ago, it had been a normal day. The sun had risen, and the streets bustled with the mundane rhythm of life. Then, without warning, it all unraveled. A massive beam of light pierced the heavens, a blazing column of energy that seemed to split the sky itself. From the depths of the earth, a gateway had opened, spilling forth horrors beyond imagination. The heavens and the ground seemed locked in a cosmic war, and the city was the battleground.
Panic swept through the streets like wildfire. Buildings trembled, car alarms blared, and screams filled the air. Yet amidst the chaos, a strange group emerged. As if prepared for this exact scenario, a group of mysterious individuals clad in black appeared.
Armed with medieval weapons and displaying an uncanny precision, they moved swiftly to evacuate the area. Thanks to their efforts, many lives were saved. The central district—largely administrative and less populated—was cleared swiftly, minimizing casualties.
But the destruction was immense, and the cause of it stood as an unholy spectacle in the heart of the district: a three-headed monster, towering over the ruins, locked in combat with a lone figure. The Reaper.
Kim sniffed, trying to suppress the rising fear that clawed at her chest. She couldn't believe she was here, of all places. Just months ago, she'd been a low-ranking employee at the Bureau of Intelligence. After her terrifying encounter with the Reaper during an incident involving the databanks, she had quit her job.
She'd convinced herself it was the right move—anything to avoid running into that murderous force of violence again.
Her new job as a reporter had seemed like a safer alternative, a fresh start. Her experience with the Bureau and her infamous brush with the Reaper had earned her credibility, even admiration. She had a strong resume, a promising career ahead of her.
'But how… how did it end up like this?' she thought, her hands trembling as she gripped the armrest of her seat. Why didn't they send someone more experienced?
The urge to cry crept up on her, but she swallowed it down. They were high up in the sky, well above the battle, but it didn't feel safe. Not at all. Her every instinct screamed to run, to hide, but there was nowhere to go.
She bit her lip hard, fighting the overwhelming fear and the humiliating urge to lose control of her bladder.
The cameraman wasn't faring any better. His hands shook, and he muttered prayers under his breath, but he kept filming. Through the lens, he captured every moment of the battle below, knowing the world was watching.
The police had long since abandoned any hope of handling the situation. This was far beyond their capabilities. And Kim wasn't alone in her predicament. Reporters dotted the skyline, broadcasting the battle live. Everyone, everywhere, was watching the unfolding chaos.
Her gaze shifted to the battle itself. The Reaper, clad in his dark vestments, stood amidst a storm of destruction. His powers were unlike anything she'd ever seen. Vines and roots erupted from the ground at his command, twisting and coiling to ensnare the massive monster. Flames roared to life, consuming everything in their path as he unleashed his wrath.
Yet, the beast endured. Its three heads lashed out, its monstrous body refusing to yield. The earth shook with every exchange, and the air was thick with the sound of their clash.
Kim's breath hitched as she stared at the Reaper. For the first time, she found herself hoping he would win.
'Better a monster you know than one you don't', she thought grimly.
Alicarde, oblivious to the cheers and desperate hopes of the people, had no time to bask in admiration. His focus was solely on the towering three-headed guardian before him.
He had been trying to strike at its eyes, the only apparent weak point, but the creature was relentless. Its heads moved with blinding speed—one spewing torrents of water and ice, another hurling waves of fire and molten lava, and the third, ominously silent, held an unknown but undoubtedly deadly attack.
"Tch…" Alicarde clicked his tongue in frustration.
Thus far, he had evaded every strike, but the prolonged battle was taking its toll—not on him, but on the city. If he didn't end this soon, Evergreen might not survive the devastation.
"It's time to go for broke," he muttered under his breath, tightening his grip on his sword.
Charging headlong at the thirty-meter-tall monstrosity, he aimed for its eyes once more. A cascade of water and ice hurtled toward him, but with a flick of his wrist, the gravity-controlling ability of [Flux Field] pushed the torrent aside. The convenience of esper abilities meant no chants, no delays—just raw, instantaneous power.
The opening was enough. He rolled beneath the fiery maw of the lava-spewing head, narrowly avoiding a molten stream that scorched the ground behind him. His enhanced reflexes and body enchantment magic propelled him forward in a blur.
With a final leap, Alicarde used his gravity manipulation to thrust himself higher, sword poised. The blade plunged into the eye of the water-spewing head with a satisfying crunch.
"Heh, how do you like me now?" he growled, his voice low and sinister, though it was drowned by the cacophony of destruction.
But victory was fleeting. Before he could pull his blade free, a massive maw descended on him.
Pain erupted as the beast's jaws crushed his body, shattering bone and tearing flesh. In an instant, his torso and head were severed from his lower half, sent hurtling in opposite directions.
Even as his broken body flew through the air, Alicarde grinned under his hood.
'I'm gonna need my lower half for later… damn it.'
His upper half crashed into the side of a building with a sickening splatter, landing in a heap amidst the rubble.
In the helicopter above, Kim froze.
"It… it's over," she whispered, her voice trembling with shock and despair.

"The Reaper… he's dead… he's been ripped apart by the monster. Evergreen City is doomed. Who will save us now…"
A groan echoed from the ruined building.
"Heh… hehe… that hurt," Alicarde muttered, his voice strained but alive.
A familiar sigh reached his ears.
"Ali… why are you always getting ripped apart? Are you a masochist or something?"
Alicarde tilted his head to look up, his grin widening despite the pain. From above, Argint gazed down at him, her expression a mix of exasperation and concern.
"Glad to see you missed me," he quipped, his body pooling into a dark shadow as his regeneration began.
"Do you want to give me a hug?"
Argint crossed her arms, her white furred claws tapping impatiently.
"You can't teach an old dog new tricks…"
"I'm not the one howling at night," Alicarde shot back with a smirk.
Argint snorted, though her lips quirked into a smile. "Welcome back, Ali. I missed you."
"I missed you too," he replied, watching as his body and dark vestments reformed completely.
Argint placed her hands on her hips, her tone laced with teasing.
"So, want me to give you a hand, or are you too much of a big boy to ask for help from a girl?"
"I'd appreciate it," Alicarde said, his gaze drifting to her chest. "Besides, I never thought of you as a girl."
Her deadpan expression cut through the moment. "Stop leering, you perv."
"I have no idea what you're talking about," he retorted, feigning innocence.
Argint rolled her eyes and handed him a comm device, which he slipped into his ear.
Smiling, Alicarde activated the channel, connecting to the others: Elizalina, Amena, and Carrisa. Their voices buzzed through the network.
"Hey, guys," he said, his voice laced with his usual irreverence. "I'm back. Good to see you kept the city in one piece."
