Eternal Life: I Have the Favor System-Chapter 146 - 128: Activation
"What’s this guy’s name? What’s his background?"
Li Dayao inquired.
Liu Wan quickly found Chu Lingguang’s information and said, "He’s Chu Lingguang, Guo Wei’s disciple. He ranked first in the South City Daoist Examination."
"Guo Wei? As far as I know, besides the Day and Night Breathing Technique, Guo Wei doesn’t possess any more advanced Breathing Methods."
Li Dayao frowned; surprisingly, he knew of Guo Wei as well.
"How should we deal with him?"
Liu Wan inquired.
Chu Lingguang had managed to bridge the connection between himself and the world, allowing the breath he took in to complete one full Circulation inside his body and expel the impure air. Technically, it was a remarkable achievement, but unfortunately, he hadn’t used the Day and Night Breathing Technique.
The academy had its rules.
This kind of achievement wouldn’t be taken into consideration.
"What’s his aptitude like?"
Li Dayao asked again, not wanting to jump to conclusions.
"His aptitude is... dull. But his Heart Guarding Skill is quite good."
Liu Wan glanced at Chu Lingguang’s file. The word "dull" struck him as odd, considering it was Chu Lingguang who had just been the first to discover the secret to bridging the internal and external, successfully completing a full Circulation of his breath.
"Ignore him for now. We’ll assess his performance only after he successfully activates the Day and Night Breathing Technique and completes a full Circulation with it."
Li Dayao said after a moment’s thought.
"What if he can’t do it?"
Liu Wan couldn’t help but ask.
"We’ll handle it by the book."
Li Dayao’s tone left no room for argument.
Liu Wan nodded and subsequently paid Chu Lingguang no further mind.
Now that Chu Lingguang had finally bridged the connection and completed a full Circulation of breath within his body, he could feel his Qi Power surging. It was like he had drunk a small bowl of medicinal tea; the increase in Qi Power was many times greater than what he gained from his usual Breathing and Exhaling.
’The same Breathing Technique, but a different way of breathing, could yield such vastly different results.’
He found it strange.
’I’ve already achieved this breakthrough. Why didn’t Guo Wei ever teach me this?’
’Was two years too short? Did Guo Wei not expect me to progress this quickly? Or is bridging this connection a completely new realm, one that requires an Advanced Breathing Method to reach?’
Chu Lingguang was puzzled.
But he didn’t doubt Guo Wei in the slightest.
In their two years together, Guo Wei had treated him like his own son. If he could have helped him achieve this breakthrough with his Breathing Technique, Guo Wei certainly wouldn’t have kept it a secret.
That meant either this Skill was simply too profound, or the technique for the breakthrough was restricted, just like the Day and Night Breathing Technique, which couldn’t be taught freely due to Court regulations.
Chu Lingguang didn’t dwell on it.
He continued practicing his Breathing and Exhaling with the breakthrough method he’d discovered.
His guess was only partially correct.
The breathing technique to bridge the connection wasn’t restricted by the Court, preventing Guo Wei from teaching it. Rather, just as he thought, many people believed that an Advanced Breathing Method was necessary to achieve it.
But no one could have possibly imagined it.
Chu Lingguang had cultivated two Breathing Method Skills to their absolute peak.
Both his Basic Breathing Technique and Tidal Breathing Technique had reached the state of Perfection in their values, and he had successfully mastered the secret of Breathing and Exhaling.
Even he hadn’t realized that thanks to two Breathing Techniques at Perfection, the internal structure of his body was already as nourished as if he had been practicing an Advanced Breathing Method.
He was only able to achieve this breakthrough with the Tidal Breathing Technique because the meridians throughout his body were already clear. He simply hadn’t known it was possible to breathe this way. Today, after his sudden insight, he had taken a risk and, by a stroke of luck, managed to completely connect his inner and outer circulation.
He could now exhale the breath he took in through the acupoints of his meridians, allowing the maximum amount of power from each breath to remain within his body.
In other words, both the Basic Breathing Technique and the Tidal Breathing Technique could clear one’s meridians if cultivated to their peak. This, however, required an immense amount of time. If it weren’t for the help of his Favor Points, Chu Lingguang never would have been able to maximize both Skills within two years.
His meridians had been cleared without him even realizing it; he had simply lacked the knowledge of how to breathe correctly.
Now, it was simply a natural culmination of his efforts.
"HUUUH!"
Chu Lingguang was completely focused.
Having finally discovered the breakthrough technique, he continued to practice it using the Tidal Breathing Technique. For the rest of the day, no one else achieved a breakthrough; only Chu Lingguang.
That evening, after eating dinner and replenishing his Qi Blood.
Chu Lingguang stood outside the Inner Courtyard, holding a brocade box in his hand, feeling conflicted.
"Chu Lingguang, what are you doing standing at the door by yourself?"
A man in black asked.
Chu Lingguang remembered him. It was the same young man in black who had knocked him into the lake bare-handed. After two days, Chu Lingguang had learned his name: Pan Tongguang.
"I have something I want to give to Mr. Da."
Chu Lingguang wanted to give the jade handballs inside the brocade box to Li Dayao.
"Is it that thing in your hands? Give it to me, I’ll give it to Mr. Li for you."
Pan Tongguang asked.
"Oh, okay. Thank you, then."
Chu Lingguang thought for a moment before handing the brocade box to Pan Tongguang. Li Dayao only came to the hall to watch them for a short time each day—using the sound of his handballs to disrupt their practice—so it was normally impossible to see him alone. Letting Pan Tongguang deliver it seemed like a good solution.
「A short while later.」
"Mr. Li, this is from Chu Lingguang."
Inside Li Dayao’s room, Pan Tongguang saw a dozen or so brocade boxes. Each box contained a pair of handballs, all of different materials, but each one exceedingly precious.
"Ah, Guo Wei’s disciple."
Li Dayao placed the two jade handballs in his palm and rolled them around, then said, "Go and bring Chu Lingguang here."
"Yes."
Pan Tongguang looked surprised.
