Chapter 211: Chapter 195: Destiny’s Mockery

After Qian Huan walked out of the ward, a layer of gloom settled in his heart.

"The Second Prison harbors a terrible secret, a secret so dreadful that it prompted the Bright Group to sever ties with the company in advance."

Qian Huan shuddered at the thought. The Bright Group was undeniably a giant in Zone 9. What kind of terrifying secret could make the Bright Group act so cautiously and find a scapegoat in advance?

Qian Huan felt his throat dry up. Suddenly, he thought the position under the warden of the Second Prison was a huge powder keg, his three-layer thick bulletproof glass couldn’t keep it under control.

"Most terrifying of all, I’ve been forced into a corner by my mother and my second uncle."

With his mind in chaos, he stepped into the elevator heavily. A sudden chill hit him, making him involuntarily shiver as if a formless sense of danger filled the air.

He snapped back to reality and saw that the elevator doors had silently closed.

Standing helplessly, his gaze slowly swept over the three passengers in the elevator, trying to locate the source of his unease.

A handsome young man, with a strange badge embroidered at his collar, was speaking on the phone with an extremely gloomy expression, emitting an aura that warned others to stay away.

A university girl in a school uniform with sweet looks but an expressionless face, her features carrying an indescribable unnaturalness.

And a doctor in a white coat wearing a mask, his eyes obscured by fine hair, appeared normal but emitted a faint gunpowder smell.

The young man habitually touched the badge at his collar with his index finger, speaking sinisterly into the phone: "Good, very good. Even the dogs raised below dare to bare their teeth at their master together now, huh?"

Qian Huan pricked up his ears, trying to catch the faint sound from the other end of the phone: "I’m sorry, Commissioner. However, following Secretary Du’s instructions is my duty, please understand."

Meanwhile, the university girl in the school uniform focused on her phone’s screen, her fingers lightly tapping on the keyboard, typing a line—

"I’m at the hospital with my father now. I will return to school in the afternoon and will be back in time for the martial arts competition."

Qian Huan’s eyes inadvertently swept over her phone screen, then quickly looked away.

The last person, the doctor in the white coat, stood quietly in a corner of the elevator, seemingly dazed.

Qian Huan glanced at him from the corner of his eye and immediately looked away.

"I can’t determine which one of them is the source of this danger I feel? Is it the cramped space of the elevator causing me confusion, or..."

Qian Huan’s heart suddenly tightened, a chill rising from his spine, making him doubt,

"Has my sense of danger malfunctioned? Surely not all three people in the elevator pose a threat to me?"

Ding—— The elevator door slowly opened.

Qian Huan hurriedly stepped out, but the three behind him did not follow. It wasn’t until the elevator doors closed again that the inexplicable sense of danger slowly dissipated from his heart.

Ding, the next floor, the elevator doors opened slowly once more.

The Commissioner walked out of the elevator quickly, striding towards Feng Ju’s ward.

Feng Yuhuai put away her phone unhurriedly, stopping the elevator door from closing at the last moment, then stepped out. She bought a bottle of drink at a vending machine in the corridor.

She casually opened the bottle cap, took a light sip, then walked slowly to the door of Feng Ju’s ward, her steps light, finally stopping at the doorway.

Inside the ward, Feng Ju hastily got up from the bed, looking with surprise at the Commissioner who walked in, appearing slightly anxious.

He couldn’t understand why the Commissioner would personally visit someone like him, who had already lost all his abilities.

"Commissioner, why are you here?" Feng Ju asked cautiously.

The Commissioner still showed a shadow of gloom on his face, his gaze was as cold as ice, he glanced casually at Feng Ju’s empty left sleeve, speaking in a flat tone: "I heard you’re being discharged today, so I came specifically to visit you."

Though Feng Ju didn’t believe the Commissioner came out of concern, he still put on a grateful façade: "Thank you, Commissioner, for taking time out of your busy schedule to visit. I’m just sorry I can no longer serve you, and I feel truly guilty about it."

The Commissioner gave Feng Ju a meaningful glance, his eyes intriguing, he asked, "I heard you applied to be transferred to a clerical position in the logistics department?"

Feng Ju managed a bitter smile, replying: "Yes, although I can’t hold a gun anymore, I believe I can still manage a pen."

The Commissioner didn’t beat around the bush, he asked directly: "Do you still want to handle a gun?"

For a moment, Feng Ju was stunned, a flash of disbelief crossing his eyes, his breathing suddenly turned rapid, after a moment, he squeezed a word through his teeth: "Yes!"

The Commissioner’s lips slightly curled into a cold arc, his voice low and filled with chill:

"I can give you the opportunity to hold a gun once more. But know that once you pick up that gun again, you won’t have the chance to lay it down. You better think really clearly before answering me."

Feng Ju clenched his teeth tightly, swallowing a gulp, he wasn’t foolish; he clearly understood the implications of the Commissioner’s words, but he had no hesitation, he didn’t want to spend the rest of his life as a cripple, for that he was willing to bear any cost.

Without a second thought, he replied: "I understand, I’m willing to be your gun, Commissioner, firing wherever you point, never retreating, unless I’m dead."

Feng Ju was speaking the truth at the moment, though he definitely couldn’t foresee that the cost would likely include more than just himself.

The Commissioner was satisfied, gently patting Feng Ju’s shoulder, a smile of appreciation tugging at his lips: "Feng Ju, do you know what I admire the most about you?"

Not waiting for Feng Ju to speak, the Commissioner revealed the answer: "What I admire most is your fearless, forward, audacious spirit. Unlike some people, who are always overcautious, hesitating, such people can achieve what?"

Feng Ju took in a deep breath, his gaze steely with resolve: "This subordinate has nothing left but this worthless life, naturally, when it comes to work, I will fight desperately."

The Commissioner laughed heartily: "Good! Then there’s no rush to be discharged. I will arrange for Director Tong to fit you with the most advanced mechanical prosthetic as soon as possible. Once you recover, lead your old patrol office brothers to apprehend [Mask] for me."

Feng Ju’s eyes sparkled with firm resolve, upon hearing the term "[Mask]," his breaths came faster, his voice carried a revealing hatred and resolution.

He stated firmly: "I guarantee to complete the task, not to let you down."

The Commissioner didn’t hesitate to promise: "If you get this done, I promise to place you in the position you’ve longed for."

After speaking, the Commissioner suddenly turned his head to the door and asked: "Who’s outside?"

The door gently opened, and Feng Yuhuai walked in, her face slightly tense, a bit stiff, her voice gentle, her speech slower than usual:

"Dad, Mom said you’re being discharged today, I took leave from school to come pick you up."

Feng Ju smiled, nodded at Feng Yuhuai, then said to the Commissioner, "Commissioner, this is my daughter Feng Yuhuai, she’s attending university."

The Commissioner glanced at Feng Yuhuai, recognizing her as the university girl who rode the same elevator with him earlier, he didn’t think much of it, instead, put on a leadership demeanor, smiled: "Your father isn’t being discharged today, he still needs a couple more days."

The Commissioner turned to leave, but just as he brushed past Feng Yuhuai, he suddenly paused, turned back and studied Feng Yuhuai again, smiling:

"Your father is an exceptional talent, you should learn more from him, so you can overcome obstacles and walk a bright path."

Feng Yuhuai lowered her head slightly, her voice was small but firm as she replied: "Thank you for your guidance, I have always seen my father as a role model in my life."
