Chapter 55: Chapter 55: Sienna, Is It Really You Who’s Come Back?

Seeing them leave, Fries excitedly rushed into the hospital room.

"Daddy, Mommy, Uncle said he’ll take us to the amusement park tomorrow, and he said he’ll get Mommy a fast pass. Mommy, that Uncle seems pretty nice."

Chloe’s expression tightened: "Did you say something to him?"

"I just said Mommy likes thrilling rides, what’s wrong, Mommy, did I say something wrong?"

Hearing this, Chloe froze right where she was.

The one who likes thrill rides is Sienna, Chloe’s always had a fear of heights.

Even riding the carousel makes her dizzy.

Chloe gently stroked Fries’s cheek, softly reminding, "Fries, that time Mommy didn’t actually want to play, it’s just I didn’t want to waste that hundreds-of-dollars pass."

Fries blinked in confusion a few times: "But I saw Mommy having lots of fun."

"You just recovered from a serious illness. Mommy pretended to have fun to make you happy. Honestly, I was super scared."

"Really? Mommy, I love you so much."

Fries threw his arms around Chloe’s neck and kissed her.

He didn’t really understand why Mommy could look so happy when she was clearly scared.

If it was him, he’d never be able to do it.

But since Mommy loves him so much, he felt super happy inside.

Chloe laughed and ruffled his hair, reminding him again, "No matter who asks you, you’re Mommy’s real son, and Daddy is Mommy’s husband. We’re a family of three now, okay?"

Fries nodded obediently: "I know, Daddy told me. We’re a loving family now."

Albie looked worried: "Did Silas Prescott find out something?"

Chloe shook her head: "I’m not sure, just feels like some of what he said was weird. He even asked where the ten million for medical bills went, I said I loaned it to your company, so don’t slip up when we’re back."

"Don’t worry, Fries and I would never hold you back."

The three of them stayed with Mrs. Nash for dinner before heading home together.

The Nash Family’s apartment has three bedrooms and a living room. Mr. North and Mrs. Nash have one, Chloe has one, and the last is a guest room.

Chloe let Fries stay in the guest room, and Albie stayed with her.

They all washed up and got ready for bed.

Albie made himself a bed on the floor and lay down: "Seriously, you don’t have to be this nervous. How would Silas Prescott know how we sleep?"

Chloe: "He’s meticulous. If we slip even a little, he’ll spot something."

"Is he really that clever? Tomorrow, I’ll test him out."

"You can’t beat him."

"But I can piss him off. I’m your husband now, right? If he recognizes you, and sees us together, I bet he’ll be furious."

They were still talking when suddenly the doorbell rang.

Chloe tensed up like facing a foe, immediately waving at Albie: "Hurry, fold up the bedding and get on the bed."

Seeing Chloe, who’s always so calm, now pale and scared like this, Albie could tell how much she’d suffered five years ago.

She must have been on edge every day.

He quickly tried to soothe her: "Don’t worry, it’s late. Probably not Silas Prescott. He’s not that crazy, right?"

"He’s capable of anything, he’s a total lunatic."

Chloe helped Albie put away his quilt to make it look like they’d slept together.

Fries had just finished brushing his teeth, and when he heard the doorbell, he ran over and asked, "Who is it?"

Julian yelled at the top of his lungs: "Brother, it’s me!"

Hearing that voice, Fries got super excited.

He rushed to open the door.

He immediately saw Julian and Silas Prescott standing at the doorway.

Fries looked surprised: "Uncle, Julian, why are you guys here?"

Julian grinned and threw himself into Fries’s arms, his voice soft as cotton: "Missed you, brother."

Suddenly having a little brother obsessed with him, Fries was kind of at a loss.

He took Julian’s hand and led him inside, acting all big brotherly: "Since you missed me, just sleep with me tonight."

Hearing that, Julian happily clapped his little hands: "Sleep together!"

Silas Prescott walked into the living room, his dark eyes quietly scanning the room for Chloe’s figure.

Just then, the bedroom door opened.

Chloe and Albie walked out wearing matching couple pajamas, their hair messy, faces flushed.

They looked like they’d just been intimate.

Seeing this, Silas Prescott’s heart hurt a little.

Every nerve in his body was jumping like crazy. For a split second, he wanted to rush up and punch Albie.

To snatch Chloe back from him.

But reason forced him to squash those thoughts down.

Chloe’s husband is Albie, and he’s just the family member of a patient with no connection to Chloe.

He had no right to take Chloe away.

Silas Prescott forced down the darkness in his heart and managed to look apologetic.

"Dr. Nash, I’m so sorry, Julian insisted on coming to find you, I tried to persuade him for ages but it didn’t work, so I had to drop by. Hope I didn’t interrupt your family time?"

The man’s lips seemed gentle and smiling, but to Chloe, that smile hid danger.

Why would Silas Prescott show up in the middle of the night?

Was it really just Julian missing her?

Albie saw her stiff face and slung an arm around her shoulders, sounding intimate: "Julian’s here, great — saves Fries from clinging to his mommy. I haven’t seen Chloe in ages, we need some couple time."

Hearing that, Silas Prescott’s fingers clenched inside his pocket.

He nodded at Albie: "Thank you for that. I won’t disturb your rest then."

With that, he turned and walked away.

After he left, Julian flung himself into Chloe’s arms, tilting his head up at her: "Missed Mommy."

Chloe ruffled his hair: "Go sleep with your brother now. Tomorrow we’ll go to the amusement park."

The two kids were over the moon.

They kept up the excitement until really late before falling asleep.

Silas Prescott sat in his car, long slender fingers pinching a still-lit cigarette.

The dim light shone on his face, making his features more pronounced.

Those dark eyes shimmered with suppressed longing.

He put the cigarette in his mouth, jaw clenching a few times, letting the burning ash drop onto his pale hand.

He felt nothing, eyes glued to the apartment upstairs.

When the lights upstairs finally went out, the last bit of his self-control snapped.

He crushed the cigarette butt hard in his palm, the burning heat didn’t hurt at all.

He just felt like there was a voice in his heart screaming out.

Chloe and Albie are married, and now they’re asleep together.

The two haven’t seen each other in ages. He couldn’t be clearer on what married couples would be doing right now.

Why did his need to control Chloe feel so much like what he’d felt for Sienna?

Silas Prescott drove back to the apartment he shared with Sienna.

As soon as he walked in, he smelled that familiar scent.

That light floral note with a hint of sweetness.

It was Sienna’s unique scent.

He’d had the place cleaned in hopes Chloe would move in.

But the scent didn’t fade; instead, it was richer than ever.

Silas Prescott smiled bitterly.

He walked slowly to the bed and buried his face in Chloe’s pillow.

Breathing in the familiar smell, soaking in the presence he’d missed so much, his throat tightened up.

"Sienna, is it really you who’s come back?"
