Chapter 54: Chapter 54: She’s My Mom

She didn’t dare refuse again, so she could only nod and agree. "Alright, let’s go. We’ll head to the hospital."

The three of them quickly arrived at the hospital.

When they came in, Albie Kane, dressed in a white shirt and black slacks, wearing gold-rimmed glasses on his nose, walked over in a gentle and elegant manner, warmly pulling Chloe Nash into his arms.

"Chloe, I’m sorry. Something came up at the company and delayed me. I left all the work to you. It was my fault."

He spoke considerately and gently. No one could tell that they’d never been this close before.

Chloe Nash smiled and shook her head. "You both came early—why didn’t you tell me? I could have picked you up at the airport."

Albie Kane raised an eyebrow. "My son and I wanted to surprise you. So, were you surprised?"

Fries darted out from behind and hugged Chloe’s thigh, "Mommy, I missed you so much! I haven’t seen you in ages. You won’t stop wanting me, will you?"

Chloe squatted down and kissed Fries on the cheek. "How could I not want you? You’re Mommy’s son. I could never leave you. It’s just that Grandpa got into an accident so Mommy had to stay. Are you feeling better now? Let Mommy check if you still have a fever."

"I had an IV drip for three days, now I’m all better. But without Mommy, the IV hurt a lot."

"I’m sorry. It’s all Mommy’s fault."

The two embraced each other affectionately.

Fries shot a triumphant smile at Julian Prescott who stood at the doorway. "She’s my mommy, no one else can have her. Hmph."

Seeing his mom being so affectionate with someone else, Julian clenched his little fists in jealous frustration.

He really wanted to knock out this "brother" and steal Mommy back.

But he was afraid Mommy would be mad, so he didn’t dare do it.

He pursed his lips, his eyes brimming with tears. "Brother, I’m not taking her."

He walked up to Fries and stuffed a piece of chocolate into his hand. "This is what Julian likes. I’m sharing it with you, brother."

Fries looked at the chocolate, almost melted from being held so tightly, then glanced up at Julian with tears balancing in his eyes, and his heart went soft all of a sudden.

The bold confidence he’d had before coming here melted away in that moment.

This kid was kind of pitiful, too. No mommy, and sick.

Should I be nicer to him?

Fries nodded. "Thank you."

Seeing he’d accepted it, Julian smiled through teary eyes and clung to Chloe’s sleeve, gazing plaintively at Fries.

"Mommy, share with Julian, okay?"

His speech was halting, but his meaning was clear.

He gave Fries his favorite treat, so Fries should share his favorite mommy in return.

Utterly logical—using softness to overcome strength.

Silas Prescott was genuinely impressed by his son’s move.

Apparently, healing Julian wasn’t just about Chloe; a little pressure helped too.

Not even a full day and Julian could already say this much.

Silas stared at his son’s innocent little face, unable to suppress a small smile.

His tactics were practically on another level now.

Even though they weren’t biologically related, Julian’s way of thinking and acting was so much like his own.

Fries hadn’t even swallowed the chocolate before he heard that.

He was stunned for a moment.

He stared at Julian over and over.

Had he just fallen for this little brother’s trick?

But you can’t refuse a gift; as a little man, he couldn’t lose face like that.

He nodded. "Fine, since you seem pretty pitiful."

Getting permission, Julian instantly smiled at Chloe. "Mommy, you’re mine and brother’s."

Chloe ruffled his hair, smiling. "Okay, Julian and brother have to be good friends from now on. Why don’t you two go play outside with Auntie for a bit, alright?"

"Okay."

Julian took Fries’s hand. "Brother, let’s go."

The caregiver followed the two kids out, leaving only the adults inside.

Chloe finally remembered Silas Prescott was still standing behind her, so she quickly introduced them. "Albie, this is Mr. Prescott, the one helping Dad with the lawsuit—he’s also Julian’s father."

Albie Kane walked over and extended his hand. "Thank you for your hard work, Mr. Prescott."

Silas nodded politely, "It’s nothing. Whatever I’ve done is nothing compared to Dr. Nash—she takes care of her mom, runs the case, and even handles Mr. Kane’s debt crisis. I truly envy you for having such a capable wife."

His tone was gentle and calm. No one could discern his intentions.

Isaac Kane felt something was off.

He never asked Chloe Nash to help with his company’s debts.

He was just about to ask what was going on when Chloe tugged at his arm. "It’s fine. As long as the company gets through this, we’ll find a way for Dad’s legal fees. Don’t worry, Mr. Prescott."

As she spoke, she discreetly pinched Albie’s arm.

Albie immediately got it.

He smiled. "Right. That money should be back soon. I’ll give it all to you then."

Silas’s gaze shifted imperceptibly to Chloe’s hand holding Albie’s.

He nodded faintly. "Then I’ll wait for Dr. Nash’s update. Since your husband and son are here, spend some time with them. I won’t let Julian interrupt your family reunion. We’ll head out."

With that, he turned to leave.

As the door closed, the polite façade faded, revealing a sudden hint of darkness on his face.

He smiled faintly, then walked over and took Julian’s hand. "Come on, son. Let’s go back. Dr. Nash needs to spend time with her family."

Julian pouted, looking completely unwilling.

But then he remembered what Dad had said: If he didn’t behave, Mommy would leave. So he could only wave goodbye to Fries.

His voice was soft and sweet. "Bye, brother."

Fries looked a little reluctant. "Why are you leaving so soon?"

Silas ruffled his hair, smiling. "Enjoy time with your mom. Tomorrow, Uncle will take you both to the amusement park."

At that, Fries clapped his hands excitedly. "Uncle, you’re the best! My mommy loves exciting rides the most!"

"What does she like? Tell me, and I’ll have someone arrange express passes in advance."

"Roller coasters, giant swings, log flumes, river rafting—anything exciting, she loves it! But I’m too little to join her for some of them."

Hearing this, a gleam of darkness flickered in Silas’s jet-black eyes.

But it vanished in an instant.

With a gentle smile, he said, "Alright, I’ll arrange it. Get some rest and see you tomorrow."

"Uncle, Julian, see you tomorrow!"

As Silas turned to leave with Julian, a shadowy smile flashed across his deep-set gaze.
