Entangled in the Night: Unable to Escape Him-Chapter 32: Sienna, Is It Really You?
Hearing Silas Prescott call her name, Chloe Nash felt her heart leap into her throat.
It was just like five years ago whenever she tried to run, only for Silas Prescott to catch her.
She did her best to steady her emotions and walked to a spot bathed in light, letting Silas see her face clearly.
"Mr. Prescott, I’m Chloe Nash. Thank you for saving me today."
Silas had just wanted to rush forward and hold Chloe, but the face in front of him was nothing like Sienna Paxton’s. The hope that had just sprung up in his heart was instantly doused.
Agony and disappointment swirled in his dark eyes.
He stared at Chloe for a long moment before finally forcing those feelings down.
His voice was hoarse with bitter disappointment. "Something happened in my house; I have to give you an explanation. I punished her the same way Stella Sterling punished you."
Chloe’s heart twinged as she glanced at Julian Prescott, about to cut the cake. "You punish her, aren’t you afraid you’ll hurt Julian?"
Silas furrowed his brow. "What’s her relationship with Julian?"
That question, combined with her memory of Julian hugging her and calling her ’Mom’, made Chloe suddenly feel something was off.
Could she have misunderstood?
Seeing Chloe staring at him, hesitating to speak, Silas seemed to guess something.
He let out a short laugh. "Dr. Nash thought she was Julian’s mother, my wife?"
Chloe’s fingers curled slightly. "She... isn’t?"
That day in the hospital room, she’d heard Henry Prescott say Stella Sterling was the Old Master’s granddaughter-in-law.
Silas said, "Dr. Nash, do you really think I have such poor taste, that I’d find a mother like that for Julian?"
Chloe felt an inexplicable tension in her heart. "Then where is Julian’s mother?"
"She died saving Julian."
Silas could never forget that scene.
When he hadn’t found Sienna and was about to leave, suddenly he saw beneath a woman’s body, there was a little baby.
Her body had been blown beyond recognition, but the child beneath her wasn’t injured at all.
How immense was that mother’s love, to accomplish something like that?
Silas, who had never experienced such maternal love, was deeply moved by the sight.
He risked danger to rush forward, rescued the baby boy from under her body.
He thought, even though Julian had lost his mother, he was still fortunate, because at least someone had sacrificed their life to save him.
Not like himself—at the critical moment between life and death, not a single parent came to save him.
Upon hearing this, Chloe felt uncomfortable inside.
First, for Julian, so young and already without a mother; second, she thought of her own son. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
If only she’d been with her son at that time, she’d have protected him just like that mother did.
"Julian is so lucky, protected by his mother and survived."
Silas gave a quiet ’Mm’: "He started talking because of you. I hope you won’t turn away when he reaches out."
"I won’t. He’s so cute, how could I bear to hurt him?"
As they spoke, Julian Prescott ran over, grabbed Chloe’s hand, and looked up at her.
"Mommy, cake."
Seeing him say two more words, Chloe excitedly pinched his little cheek.
"Alright, Mommy will help you cut the cake."
Julian clapped his little hands happily.
The candles were lit. Lucy Rhodes and Chloe Nash led everyone in singing Happy Birthday.
The atmosphere was cheerful and lively.
Stella Sterling stood drenched, watching the scene in the hall, stomping her foot in anger. "I’m already in such a sorry state and Brother Silas still hasn’t come over to check on me, but he was so worried about Chloe earlier.
Mom, I’ve become a laughingstock today, all because of Chloe. I won’t let her get away with this."
Mrs. Sterling stroked her head tenderly. "Don’t worry. I’ll make her pay."
She would make Chloe Nash pay the price.
——
Chloe Nash spent Julian’s birthday with him. Just as she was about to head home, she saw Jett Sterling waiting by the car.
The man had just changed his clothes, hadn’t even had time to dry his hair.
Drops of water still rolled down his sharp jawline.
Seeing Chloe emerge, he immediately stubbed out his cigarette and walked over to her.
Jett grabbed Chloe’s shoulders. "Chloe, we’ve been together three years and you believe that woman Claire Channing? You keep saying you love me, is your love really so fragile it can’t stand a little storm?"
Chloe’s head spun from his shaking, her body stumbling a little.
Just then, Silas Prescott hurried over and stepped in front of her.
He punched Jett in the face, his voice laced with barely restrained cold rage.
"Who told you to touch her?"
Jett wiped the blood from his lips, eyes tinged red. "Whatever’s between me and her, what right do you have to interfere?"
"She’s my guest, I have to guarantee her safety. Jett, don’t make me lay hands on you."
Jett chuckled, a little unhinged. "My girlfriend’s been driven away, you think I’m afraid of you? Chloe, our breakup back then doesn’t count."
Seeing Jett like this, Chloe felt wretched inside.
Sad for the Chloe Nash who had died.
Two people who loved each other so much, but split because of their families.
She looked calmly at Jett. "Jett, we’ve already broken up. I have a family now. Please don’t bother me anymore."
She finished speaking, got in Silas Prescott’s car, and left without hesitation.
Watching her disappearing figure, Jett gripped his fist in pain. "Chloe, you don’t get to break up with me. I don’t accept it."
Sitting in Silas’s car, Chloe was silent the whole way.
Images of the real Chloe Nash dying played in her mind.
She’d told Sienna, keep living, fulfill the life she couldn’t finish.
Thinking back, Chloe’s eyes stung with tears.
Silas saw the emotion in her eyes and gripped the steering wheel tighter, unconsciously.
Just imagining Jett and Chloe once loving each other so deeply, something stabbed at his heart.
The pain was like that day when he saw Sienna running away with another man.
He immediately forced down the feeling, his tone flat. "Dr. Nash, do you regret breaking up?"
Chloe shook her head. "No one can stand still and wait forever for someone."
Hearing that, Silas let out a bitter laugh. "What if I said someone can?"
Sienna walked away five years ago. He had waited for her five years.
Every day, he hoped she would come back alive.
Chloe understood exactly what he meant, but didn’t dare respond.
As soon as the car stopped, she got out and waved to Silas.
"Drive safe on your way home. I’m going up."
Without looking back, she walked inside.
She had only walked a few steps when a puppy darted out from inside, barking at her.
Instinctively, Chloe turned and ran, and in her panic ended up leaping onto Silas.
Clinging to his neck, she shouted, "There’s a dog!"
Hearing her, seeing her reaction, a spark of light flickered in Silas’s previously bleak eyes.
Why did Chloe’s reaction to dogs feel so much like Sienna’s?
