Chapter 109: Chapter 109: He Has Already Lost His Beloved

Jett Sterling returned home, and as soon as he stepped inside, a teacup flew toward him.

Luckily, he dodged just in time.

He avoided having tea spilled on him.

He curled his lips into a cold smile, "Seems like you’re getting old; you can’t even aim properly anymore."

Mr. Sterling’s face turned livid with anger, "Who allowed you to abruptly terminate the collaboration with the Winslow Family? Don’t you know we’ve had decades of friendship with them? How am I supposed to face my old friends now that you’ve treated the Winslow Family this way?"

His words were so harsh that he couldn’t help but cough a few times.

Mrs. Sterling quickly went over to gently pat his back, soothing him softly, "Speak calmly, don’t get angry, watch out for your blood pressure, it’s easy to have a blocked artery." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

She turned to Jett, persuading him kindly, "Jett, Kate was a child we watched grow up; she’s always liked you. Why did you say such harsh things to her? You even handed her over to the police. Your Uncle Winslow is on the brink of breaking ties with your dad over this matter."

Jett glanced coldly at Mrs. Sterling, "Do you really not know why I treated her that way? Why are you so afraid of me being with Chloe Nash? Five years ago, you went so far as to fabricate rumors to split us up, and now five years later, you keep setting her up. Claire Channing, do you have some dirt on you that involves the Nashes?"

Hearing this, Mrs. Sterling was so frightened that she quickly clung to Mr. Sterling’s arm.

"Husband, Jett is accusing me wrongly. Everything I did was for his own good."

Mr. Sterling slammed the table in anger, "Is this how you speak to your aunt? She raised you and is your mother in every way that counts, yet you show no manners at all."

"My mom died when I was five."

"You ungrateful brat, seems like Chloe has indeed bewitched you to the point of losing all sense of family. I would like to see what kind of power this Chloe Nash has."

As the family bickered fiercely, Mr. Sterling’s phone suddenly rang.

"Mr. Sterling, it’s bad news. Old Mrs. Sterling’s condition has suddenly worsened. She’s been rushed to the emergency room. You need to come quickly."

Hearing this news, the entire family was stunned.

Old Mrs. Sterling was scheduled for surgery this Saturday, and all indicators had been satisfactory. How could her condition suddenly worsen?

The whole family rushed to the hospital together.

The dean personally received them, "Mr. Sterling, Old Mrs. Sterling’s condition has suddenly taken a turn for the worse. She needs surgery immediately, but the operation is very risky, with less than a ten percent success rate."

Mr. Sterling anxiously rubbed his forehead, "How could it suddenly worsen? She seemed fine just days ago."

"Perhaps she was so stressed that it triggered an acute reaction."

Upon hearing this, Mr. Sterling pointed angrily at Jett, "This is all your doing. Your grandmother and Old Mrs. Winslow were as close as sisters. She must be heartbroken over your break with the Winslow Family."

Jett frowned slightly, "I only made the decision this morning, and no one at the company even knows yet. How did my bedridden grandmother find out?"

He turned his gaze to Mrs. Sterling, "You come to see Grandma every morning. Did you say something to her?"

Mrs. Sterling was terrified and quickly shook her head, "No, I didn’t say anything."

"If I find out you did, I won’t forgive you."

Jett was raised by his grandmother and had very deep feelings for her.

Faced with his grandmother’s life and death situation, he was more anxious than anyone.

He asked, "If Chloe Nash performs the surgery, how much will the success rate increase?"

The dean replied, "Dr. Nash is an expert in this area. The success rate should be over fifty percent, but haven’t you always refused to let her be Old Mrs. Sterling’s attending physician?"

When she heard he wanted to find Chloe Nash, Mrs. Sterling immediately voiced her objection.

"Since Chloe broke up with you, she must hold a grudge against our family. If you let her operate on your grandmother, she’ll certainly seek revenge."

Stella Sterling, too, added fuel to the fire, "Dad, with so much enmity between us and Chloe, do you really think she’d perform a good surgery on Grandma?"

Mr. Sterling didn’t know Chloe well, only hearing about her a few times from Mrs. Sterling.

He was somewhat troubled and looked at the dean, "Let’s arrange the previous doctor. I don’t want any mistakes with my mother."

The dean smiled slightly, "Dr. Nash is a member of the International Medical Relief Society and has helped countless patients without charge. Her medical skill is superb and her ethics impeccable. She would never intentionally let personal grievances affect a surgery, I assure you."

"Nonetheless, I can’t let her operate on my grandmother. If the surgery fails, it’s too late for regrets."

Hearing this, the dean shook his head resignedly, "In that case, please sign this surgical consent form. However, the survival rate is only ten percent, and everything depends on Old Mrs. Sterling’s physical condition."

Mr. Sterling was about to sign with pen in hand when Jett suddenly gripped it firmly, "I trust Chloe Nash. Let her perform the surgery."

"Brother, are you crazy? You’re gambling with Grandma’s life."

Jett’s eyes were as sharp as a knife as he looked at Mr. Sterling, "Dad, you understand how slim the chances of survival are at ten percent. If you trust me, let Chloe Nash perform the surgery. I can’t guarantee she’ll succeed, but at least the chances will increase by forty percent. As a businessman, you should understand the stakes here."

Mr. Sterling hesitated for a moment, then nodded, "Let her do the surgery."

Chloe Nash had just finished her rounds when the dean called her into the office.

"Dr. Nash, Old Mrs. Sterling’s operation is quite complex. You’re the only one who can perform it with a higher chance of success. Do you have any issues?"

Chloe Nash briefly glanced at the Sterling Family, her tone calm, "As long as the family agrees, I’ll do my best, but I can’t guarantee complete success. Please be aware."

She knew the surgery was risky. If it failed, the Sterlings would blame her entirely, leaving her with no defense.

But Old Mrs. Sterling was Jett’s most cherished person, and Jett was truly Chloe’s most beloved. He had just lost the one he loved, and Chloe didn’t want him to lose the person dearest to him.

She couldn’t refuse to help.

Hearing her words, Jett felt moved, his eyes reddening, "Thank you, Chloe."

Chloe faintly nodded, "I’ll go discuss the surgical plan with the other doctors. The operation will be lengthy, so the family needs to be patient."

With that, she turned to prepare.

The surgery began at three in the afternoon and didn’t conclude until after nine in the evening.

The Sterlings received the news that the operation was successful.

As Chloe exited the operating room, Jett immediately approached her, "Thank you, Chloe."

He was fully aware of the immense pressure Chloe faced in performing this surgery.

Chloe, somewhat tired, bent her lips into a smile, "You’ve lost the one you loved most; I didn’t want you to lose your closest family as well."

Hearing this, Jett’s eyes grew teary, "Thank you."

As they spoke, Mr. Sterling also approached, his expression somewhat awkward.

"Dr. Nash, you’ve saved my mother. Whatever you want, just ask."

Chloe gave a light chuckle, "Saving lives is my duty as a doctor, Mr. Sterling, so there’s no need to be so formal."

Her words left Mr. Sterling slightly embarrassed.

He stared at Chloe’s cool, composed face, falling into thought.

Had he wrongfully blamed this child five years ago?

Noticing his reaction, Mrs. Sterling hurried over to interrupt, "Husband, mother is out of surgery; let’s go check on her."

At that moment, Mrs. Nash came over holding a pot of chicken soup, "Chloe, I know you’re exhausted from the surgery, so I brought you some chicken soup."

Just as she was about to hand the soup to Chloe, her gaze suddenly landed on Mrs. Sterling.

Her previously calm face instantly showed a touch of surprise.
