Chapter 191: Best Friends

’’3000 crystals?!" Luciana looked at the woman who was holding the comb in her hand and examining it closely.

Esme nodded, ’’You are rich.’’

’’I...’’ Luciana glanced at her bare hand where she used to have her precious bracelet, ’’I feel like I scraped my skin to get you this thing.’’

Esme eyed her nonchalantly, ’’But you are rich.’’

’’...’’

"So is my Uncle.’’

’’Your Uncle is not my best friend.’’

’’He is your fiance.’’

’’But he is not my best friend.’’

’’...’’ At this point, Luciana just wanted a shiny surface to bang her head on. Even if she had to die, she preferred a pretty place to die.

’’What is this comb about?" Luciana sighed, trying to grab it from Esme’s hand only for her hand to be swatted away. Her jaws dropped, ’’Where did all that sweet talking go?" her green tail moved in an exaggerated spin as she raised her hand in the water, looking at the woman in disbelief.

Esme tilted her head and glanced at her, ’’You want me to sweet-talk with you?"

’’You were doing that a few seconds ago,’’ Luciana said, looking at her with an accusatory gaze.

’’Oh, that’s because of this. Now, I got it. Why would I want to experience that terrible feeling of ’almost throwing up but not being able to’ once again?

"...’’

Luciana bit her bottom lips to endure her suffering. The Esme without her memories was more brutal and shameless than the Esme with memories.

Back then, she must be holding herself back to act coy in front of her man.

Luciana sighed in exasperation but the corner of her lips tugged up slightly as she watched the woman playing with the comb in her hand, ’’Time for the tea party now,’’ she raised the pouch in her hand.

’’Can I not go?"

’’You are my best friend,’’ Luciana grabbed the comb from her hand and placed it inside the pouch before handing it to Esme.

’’You have other friends.’’

’’Oh, they are not my best friends.’’

Esme: "...’’ You are saying what I said earlier. Humph!

...

The Defire Kingdom was vast with endless mermaids and mermen living in it. Much larger than most of the human territories combined.

While there were other smaller sea Kingdoms, but the Defire Kingdom ruled over all of them.

Contrary to what humans believed, the whole sea was not filled with water. Their kingdom resided in the deepest part of the sea but there were parts of their kingdom which had mermaids and mermen walking on their feet without any water touching those places. But those places were mostly reserved for the rich.

Such was the place where the tea party was happening where the sea was separated from the land by a magic barrier. The Norwell Manor.

Behind the manor, surrounded by huge pillars with kelps and purple corals wrapped around it, there was this round garden in between the pillars.

Esme’s and Luciana’s movements slowed down as they reached a golden gate in front of the two huge pillars.

Esme’s tail made a full-wave motion and she circled around Luciana, ’’I still don’t want to go there. I won’t fit in,’’ she whispered.

Luciana raised a brow, ’’Esme, one should never try to fit in,’’ she ruffled the woman’s red hair, ’’Who knows whether they were born to stand out and they missed the opportunities because they kept trying to fit in?"

’’You are talking in circles,’’ Esme grumbled under her breath, carefully tucking the comb pouch closer to her chest

’’Am I?" Luciana chuckled as she approached the golden gates and the gates opened, sensing her arrival ’’Come.’’

As soon as they crossed the gates, their tails and scales disappeared and they swiftly landed on their feet on the glassy ground. Their gowns were back on their bodies.

Esme glanced at the pale blue glass ground beneath her feet. Beneath this glass and outside the pillars was the vast blue sea whose water was bound outside by magic.

The glass ground had small holes on it and in those small holes, there were sparkling water lilies.

Esme entered the place, marveling at the sight of the gardens. The purple corals wrapped in the seaweeds and kelp held her attention for some time before her gaze shifted to the huge glass gazebo in the middle.

Under the gazebo, she could see a round table that had several beautiful women sitting around it, talking and laughing about something.

Luciana removed the veil from her face and she glanced at Esme, ’’Are you eager for it?"

Esme adjusted her veil before she opened her mouth to speak, ’’Don’t you sense my eagerness oozing out of me?" Luciana was the only person with whom she never felt any restraints while talking.

She could say whatever came to her mind and that proved that before she lost her memories, they must have been as close as they are now.

Luciana chuckled as she hooked her hand around Esme’s elbow, ’’No matter what, I got you that comb, and in return, I am going to drag you to all tea parties with me in the future.’’

’’I’d rather stay in the Castle,’’ Esme rolled her eyes.

She had been to tea parties before but she always stayed at a distance, never once approaching the mermaids.

Whenever Luciana brought her here for tea parties, she ended up in Jeremiah’s company in the Norwell’s Manor.

He was always worried that she won’t be comfortable so he never left her alone in the sea.

This was the first time when she came to the sea all by herself, without being escorted by Jeremiah or Luciana and this will be the first time she will sit on one of those extravagantly pretty chairs.

Jeremiah would have been here but the King was in the Castle and as his future heir, he must have important works to do than accompanying her.

’’And who might this lady be?"

One of the women spoke up and Esme snapped out of her daze, only to realize that they had reached the gazebo at some point and now, all these women were looking at her.

After losing her memory, this should be her first time interacting with these women.
