Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 183: Jeremiah Norwell
Luciana nodded nonchalantly, ’’One useless beast, another foolish mermaid, what can they possibly do? I don’t think we should inconvenience anyone by reporting these things,’’ she sighed.
Both Marcus and Lucian agreed with her, ’’You are right," No matter how mysterious or powerful Esme was but after losing her memories, she was like a puppet who can be easily swayed or coaxed with a few words.
After lingering around a bit, they left her alone, and as soon as they were out of her sight, Luciana’s eyes darkened.
What they did not know was that Esme was having visions from the past, not just nightmares. She saw Aleister’s eyes today.
And it could be more tomorrow. Hopefully... Hopefully, she would remember everything.
A lone teardrop rolled down her cheeks, turning into a pearl as it settled on the bottom of the sea.
She has been a bad person. She wanted what she wanted, she targeted those who did not suit her eyes, she coerced people, she was manipulative... but she was not a beast.
And the realization came that night when she watched Esme’s life crumbling right in front of her eyes.
The guilt in her heart was weighing it down because when she went to Visteria with her father and brother, she did not think that along with bloodshed, there will be so much inhumane shrewdness when they brought Esme back.
Maybe she knew it but she did not know that her heartless self would ever be affected by it.
If given a chance to rectify her mistakes, she would do anything it took.
...
Esme stroked her fingers along the canvas as she dipped her thumb in the blue color before running her finger across the white page.
’’It’s beautiful, isn’t it?" she asked Leo who was sitting on her lap.
Leo glanced at the painting before he looked back at her. Quietly.
Esme was in a daze as she glanced at the finished piece in front of her eyes.
’’Here you are.’’
The ever-so-familiar voice had her snap out of her daze.
She turned around to look at the man who was striding towards her with steady footsteps. The remarkable golden hair and green eyes that almost every member of the Norwell Family possessed.
He was Jeremiah Norwell, Marcus Norwell’s younger brother, and Luciana’s Uncle who was barely 2 years older than her.
Placing Leo on the floor, she pushed herself to her feet.
A warm smile made its way to her lips when he strode closer to her, ’’Jer, you are here,’’ And most importantly, he was her fiance, the man she had been engaged to for a few months, ’’Look at what I have painted this time,’’ she stepped to the side, letting him see her painting.
Jeremiah stepped closer towards the painting, his kind eyes taking in the sight of the pair of blue eyes, ’’It’s beautiful,’’ he stepped closer to her and grabbed her hand, ’’Just like you,’’ he said placing a chaste kiss on the back of her hand.
Esme frowned for a brief moment before she smiled wider, ’’You have a sweet mouth.’’
He leaned closer to her. ’’It is dawn already and I could not wait to see your face before I started my day.’’
She closed her eyes for what was about to come and she could feel his lips barely a few inches away from hers.
’You are mine.’
’Don’t look at any other man, my dear moon. Always remember that you are mine!’
Esme pushed the man away from him, clutching her head as unfamiliar words revolved in her head.
’’What happened, my dear?" Jeremiah glanced at her in concern.
’’I...’’ Esme opened her eyes before she shook her head, ’’I need some time,’’ It was too much to ask and she knew it. She has been asking him for time for as long as she could remember.
’’We have all the time in the world,’’ he smiled kindly, putting a comforting palm on her shoulder.
But that did not comfort Esme. It has been around a year since she woke up in the sea, with no memories of her past and countless bruises over her body.
She stayed at the Norwells’ where she met Jeremiah and the rest of the family members. While she was not very close to Marcus Norwell or his son, Lucian but it was quite the opposite when it came to Luciana and her young uncle Jeremiah.
Luciana felt like a friend at very first sight. She was a bit of a maniac to others but Esme had grown to like that about the woman. And Jeremiah was so patient and kind to her that it did not take them long to fall for each other. The plans moved and she became his fiancee soon.
Regarding her lost memories, she was told by Marcus Norwell that she had wandered out of the sea and crossed the borders of the Defire kingdom, and ventured into the land of humans where they discovered her identity and attacked her.
Luckily, they reached on time and saved her from those humans.
Esme did not know Marcus well enough but she trusted Luciana and Jeremiah and she discovered that Luciana has been her friend since she was young.
’’Jer, you have never told me...what were we like when we were young?" Esme tilted her head to look at the man.
His jade green eyes were always so gentle as if he had all the love in them for her, ’’The first time we met, you shielded my body with yours trying to protect me from some evil people who were attacking me.’’
Esme’s body stiffened. And she was struck with a feeling of deja vu. Her heart raced. So, it seems as if this has happened before, or else his words would not have made her feel like this, ’’Then? What happened then?"
’’Then I saved you from them. You were so small and weak and there was no way I was going to let you stand there, shielding me."
